And this is at 7am. I bet it would be even lower in the afternoon or night. NZ has the worst internet, and it's a shame because Xnet used to actually be good. Hey, when do you guys think Auckland will see fiber optic?

I was previously on a better plan with Xtra, which was: inferior download to my current speed, but 90-120kbps upload. Wasn't worth it, what with being more expensive and all.

Well aparently my ISP MegaTel has been affect by Telecom's UBA issue where they jammed majority of their customers bandwidth into one backbone,  Telstra which is where my ISP buys their lines from gets a small bite of the pie from Telstra's small portion.
So hence my internet speed is like this....



Yes its VERY BAD and I nearly threw a chair  onto my Monitor last night after DC'ing 5 times during a raid in WoW


Also Mason... WTF is that your home speed? or work?, Also guys can you post the TIME that the results u guys get?
Usually peak outs 2pm till 2 am are when ISP will cap your speed, so thats the best time to test.

I did my work test at about 9:40 is AM? so it seems like you +12 hours to that which would be 9:40ish AM, which is the following day, which looks correct.

tghis is average during peak hours for most ISP... if you get any lower then u will be throw a chair at ur screen LOL....


QUESTION:
Does anyone know where I can find NZ broadband standards? I want to check what is the minimum speed my ISP should be atleast providing me, if they can not provide the minimum, I have the rights to cancel my contract I believe... atm they won;t let me cancel

if its just adsl , 7mbit maximum line speed download , 0.7 mb upload maximum

most people dont get close to the maximum as it depends how far away from the exchange you are , condition of your phone line etc

adsl2+ is another story , dunno what the max speeds on that is .

The performance of ADSL is based on about a million different things. You should bitch and moan instead and get a credit on your account. Thats what I did on Xnet before I gapped it.
