Balrog DOES have really good jabs. I don't know what Abel can do about it, since I don't play him. Presumably max range jabs are too far away to do the half circle grab?

But yeah, focus wouldn't do squat because the second jab would break it. Although maybe a focus backdash would work, or maybe even just backdash. However, being further away probably doesn't help Abel much, huh?

No really. Im dead fucking serious. Playing sgt.Bangbang today at yifans, he managed to shut me down with. jab, jab, jab, jab, walk forward, jab, jab etc.

Now before anyone says anything, yes, i AM terrible. But im not sure how to get around this. (No, really. stop laughing) I tried tagging him when he was walking forward, but i just ate a jab. Probably shouldve used more focus attacks now that i think about it. Was using Abel btw.

Sweep at range? Or I'd imagine forward + MK or Back + Heavy kick would smack him out of it.
Also a jab in and of itself can be blocked and is not dangerous. It will usually be followed up if blocked by two things a dash punch or a throw. You need to predict which of these Boxer will use. If you tech throw it will push boxer back out. If he dash punches then you can roll through it/focus it etc.

I would recommend the Abel (character) specific forums at SRK though for this type of thing as there are no doubt other Abel mainers (?  ) that have come up against the same hurdles and overcame them.

Yea had a look at them. Not much as far as fighting boxer goes. They seem to be having LOTS of trouble against blanka though. Which doesnt help me much. >_>

But you should post the question up there. I've gotten a lot of help in character specific threads by putting a problem up.

Another idea is play versus mode with a friend and have them repeat what the opponent was doing. You can test what works without having to spend any money.

I tried playing Abel against stereo last night.

Friggin douche has bugger all good pokes i thought. Seems like you have to get real good at spamming roll and then throw.

Maybe EX roll or EX something would work?

His c.lk and s.lk are decent. His basic block string is c.lk, c.lp, c.lp, s.lk, f.mk -> whatever.

None of it is gonna beat out any of rog's though.

And i hadnt thought about EX roll. EX rekka might be a good bet. I tended to get tagged while doing the command for stuff yesterday though. Meh. Ill try different shit next time.

I should point out that his roll gets beaten by EVERYTHING. Throws, Jabs, whatever. It goes through fireballs though.

How much recovery does Abel have after the roll? I was cr.jabbing my ass off as Balrog yesterday against Stu, and he rolled to escape them and then got up into jabs which hit him. He might have been doing something though.

No recovery per-say, but the roll isnt invulerable, so it can be snuffed pretty easily.
