Looks like it all costs.
I found some X360 info, though I don't really know what an MSP equates to money wise (as I don't have a 360).

Unlock Mu: 160 MSP
Unlock All Unlimited Characters: 400 MSP
Unlock Each Unlimited Character: 40 MSP each

System Voice Arrange "K": Jin Kisaragi Announcer, 400 MSP

July 8
System Voice Arrange "C": Taokaka Announcer, 400 MSP
Additional Color Pack 1: 4 new colors for all characters, 320 MSP

July 15
System Voice Arrange "M": Carl Clover Announcer, 400 MSP
Additional Color Pack 2: 4 new colors for all characters, 320 MSP

July 22
Additional Color Pack 3: 4 new colors for all characters, 320 MSP

August 5
Version 1.01 System Update to include Makoto's data (automatic)
Makoto Nanaya: 560 MSP

EDIT - though all the unlimited chars etc you can unlock yourself, so I only really care about the new DLC chars, colour packs don't interest me much.
Tell me something, Billy. How come a cute little guy like this can turn into a thousand ugly monsters?

That looks like you are paying for a coster to be able to download the actual game.  Yay for BB!

I'm happy to pay for DLC chars as they reckon each takes about 4 months work & none are shipping on the console ver disc.
So its way better than waiting ages for BB3.

But the rest of it yeah is pretty rubbish.
I think Soul Calibur did similar things were you could buy unlocks for stuff that you could unlock anyway by just playing through the game.

This whole DLC thing is going to be such a bitch for anyone trying to run a tournament for BB.

Yeah as you can imagine the 'discussion' came up on dustloop as to whether or not DLC chars should be tourny legal or not.
Some of the early arguments were pretty constructive but it ended up getting locked.

Personally I think they should be legal (unless they are way out of balance), you still get to play vs them online or local AI even if you haven't purchased them. But yeah not everyone will agree.

I think that they really should be tournament legal.

I mean, they're made to be balanced with the other characters and they're part of the story and everything. The only difference is just that they came later.

I don't see what the problem is here lol.

Also, have any of you guys thought about how to get the DLC content on the NZ psn store?
We don the blue beret. Pick up Arcus Diabolus Bolverk and put our guns on. For if there is an Assault to go Through, a Spring to be Raided, or a Bloom to be Triggered, we will be there.

We main Noel Vermillion.

It seems like people complain about releasing a new game, when everything should just be DLC, and then people complain about DLC because it's not being released as a new game. Just can't win :/

And when Makoto finally comes out and is as underpowered as speedy characters always are, everyone will stop complaining I assure you.

I'm not even talking from a 'banned due to gameplay' standpoint - I just mean from a tournament organiser standpoint all dlc is a pain in the ass.

Yeah the issue isn't really if the DLC characters are going to be balanced or not; I'm sure most people will trust them to make sure that they're not OP.

I think it's more so that it would be hard to organise a tournament etc when its something that not everybody has, which raises the problems of it being physically harder to get consoles with the characters etc and that it's an unfair advantage against those that don't have the DLC.

But I personally reckon the cost of a DLC character can't really be much in the greater scheme of things, (I'm no expert at tournament organising and whatnot, but the rumoured $7USD for a new character doesn't sound like much to cover.)

And I really don't think that someone having to pay for it is an unfair advantage over someone who doesn't have it.

Also, if we can't even get it here then it's not a problem at all lol.

Above whether organisers should have to pay for this kind of stuff - what if there's no internet connection at the venue? Usually these games connect to some store to verify that you can play the DLC. No internet = no dlc char!

Lennysaurus

Fuck that.

If I were running a BB tournament I would probably not ban them.  But don't cry to me if you have to play on a console that doesn't have your character, cause basically you're fucked.

The way DRM shit works for the consoles can really fuck this shit over.

from a tourny organisation view - yeah its not a great situation (also discussed alot in the above dustloop thread).
One would hope that Arcsys would provide some means to make it easier for organisers.
Could be painful though for smaller events.
