What sort of music are ya'll into?
I'm a rock fiend, with a (small) side-dish of rap/dance/whatever else. Most rap makes me want to tear off my ears, to be honest, but there's some good stuff hidden in there; notably Eminem, Tupac, and recently Wu-Tang/RZA.
As far as rock goes, I'll listen to pretty much any rock. Hard rock and metal are my favorite, though. (One of the countless reasons I love Guilty Gear).
My top bands would be, in no order: Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Soil, Leaves Eyes, Nightwish, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold.
How about you?

Shit, you really don't want to get me started. I'm one of those people that have a 200+gb archive of music, but have actually listened to all of it. I generally go through phases of different genres... the biggest were Electronica/IDM (Aphex Twin, Autechre, Luke Vibert etc) and Hip Hop (Blackalicious, DJ Shadow, WuTang Clan etc), but could never stand Eminem, and never got into Tupac...
However, having said that I've most recently been on a Grindcore/Black/Death metal tip, I'm afraid to say. I'm about at the end of that though, so gotta find something new to listen to...

Im pretty much into everything, though i tend to favour decent rock music, GnR, Stone Temple pilots, Rage against the machine etc. But rather than go into a massive novel about what music i like, im just going to show you a poorly filmed video of the greatest song ever concieved.

my fav bands are at the moment, opeth, meshuggah, extol, dimmu borgir, slayer, oh and these are game cover bands that im into, mini bosses, this place is haunted, megadriver, video game cover band (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ7U8F3w2RE) and game artists, akira yamaoka (silent hill), yozo koshiro (streets of rage).
I mainly listen to Hardcore, Metal and Hip Hop. I'm also prone to a bit of Country with J.Pop and Anime soundtracks in the mix
For Hardcore I like mid to late '80s and later Hardcore. Mainly New York stuff like Judge, Madball, Sick Of It All, Warzone to stuff like Bulldoze, Clubber Lang, Shattered Realm, Blacklisted, Reign Supreme etc. Of the current NZ Hardcore bands I like Moment of Truth and Burial plus a few others.
I tend to like my Metal to be of the Black/Death variety with a bit of classic Thrash. Everything from mid '80s stuff up to the current bands. Classic bands I enjoy are bands like Beherit, Blasphemy, Dark Angel, Kreator etc I still follow newer bands though and liked recent(ish) albums from bands like Dead Congregation, DeathSpell Omega, Unearthly Trance etc. I also like NZ Metal like Skuldom, Vassafor, Diocletian, Ulcerate etc
I listen to a lot of Hip Hop, mainly mid 90's New York stuff like Capone 'n Noreaga, Big L, Nas, Mobb Deep, Lord Finesse,D.I.T.C, Gravediggaz etc but still follow current stuff. I like the last DJ Muggs and Planet Asia album a lot as well as the last Guilty Simpson album.
I listen to myself, because my voice Roxorz! :P :P :P
but really, I don't listen to anything...
Into quite a few different genres, Metal/Hip-Hop/D&B/Death Metal/Prog etc. Pretty much anything really.

shit I like lots of 80s music
PRINCE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!
aaaw yeah!
I like the classics - Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, Bowie, Prince, Survivor, B52s, Chicago, Pat Benetar, Stevie Wonder.
Also I like me some metal (classic metal, fantasy and glam) - Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Danzig, Dokken, Dio. The Transformers soundtrack.
Used to like a lot of stuff I don't listen to anymore, like new stuff. So I tend to just hang out with the older stuff now.
I really liked Kanye West for a while. ???

I thought Graduation was great. That's the only album I got of his. I just heard so many songs on the radio and C4 that I eventually got it and then when I listened to the way he composed his rhymes I got hooked. I never heard anyone do a rhyme with a word that is similar to the word it's rhymed with so often.
It felt like graduation was the peak of his ego but then it got too much after that.
i used to like kanye
i still think hes a really good artist
but hes such a fuckin sack of shit
i skip his music when its on my ipod just cos i think hes such a cock
my music tastes are all over the place
fav being hip hop
and i dont know how you can dislike the 80s so much stuff, hip hop, electronic, punk, glam rock and everyone knows a lot of it and is happy to sing along
He say Beyonces got the best female singer in all time...... 8)????
I like the single Paranoid in his latest album.......

only track ive liked so far was 'watch this dave'
'doctor alibi' started off good, but then lemmy started singing and i went 'aww man'.
also surprised that fergie didnt ruin the song she was on like she did B.E.P.

Ghost is one of the best opening tracks ive heard on any album.
And Doctor Alibi is fucking amazing. Admittedly, i can understand Lemmy Kilmeisters voice isn't for everyone. But keep listening to it. He grows on you. (I used to think he sounded crap as well) Admittedly, he's showing his age a bit. Sounds like he's struggling to sing at some points. I love it though. Probably my favourite song on there.
The thing about the album is that a lot of the songs sound like songs made by the bands of the lead singers (By the sword sounds like a Wolfmother song, and Crucify the dead sounds like an Ozzy song etc.) The difference being that the guitar tracks have all got the Slash magic factoring into them.
The only song i dont like on the album is the one with Adam Levigne. That shit sucks. Fergie's vocals arent great on her track either, but i was expecting it to be a hell of a lot worse, so im quite pleasantly surprised by it.
Its an album that isn't what i would call revolutionary. Its pretty old school metal. The good kind imo. Back when it had musical value, and it wasnt just some tard yelling into a mic.
Its essentially just Slash being fucking awesome, and managing to make a bunch of different singers sound great. Except Adam Levigne. Of all my musical purchases, i am by far the most happy with this one.
(For fans of the genre, i also recommend playing 'Brutal Legend' on PS3 and 360.)
Brutal Legend is awesome, even if I pretty much hate most "Heavy" Metal still a fun game.
I think I'll pass on Slash (might give it a quick listen) there is no way it will be as good as the new(ish) Alice In Chains ;)
I need to check out new(ish) Alice in Chains. I havent heard many(any) negatives from what people tell me.
im going back to thrashing my fall out boy cd :D
Bill I didn't think Alice In Chains could pull it off without Layne Staley but judging from the album they never needed him.

and it is good. things are sounding much better. probably wasnt a good idea to not listen to it for the first time when i was half asleep. im glad i gave it a second chance, i find myself enjoying alot more of the songs on it. the songs with maroon 5 guy and rocco delucca are still crap.

anyway, guru died last week. heres some tribute stuffs
http://www.djpremierblog.com/2010/04/24/keith-guru-elam-tribute-mix-by-dj-premier/
I knew Premier would end up doing something like this, even though Guru wrote this before he passed:
QuoteI do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ.

Haha yeah I know whenI say my beats are unfinished it basically means I haven't gone hard with the bass ;D FL Studio can be so limited....
I would record it myself if I had the right equipment. I'm still experimenting with FL Studio and whenever I create a bassline with it it just doesn't sound like what I would like it sound :-\ Sounds too "artificial" for me
Maybe try bass synths rather than trying to get a bass "guitar" sound..?
Embrace the "artificialness" and work with what you have?
I've used bass synths in previous beats and I really don't wanna be recycling the same sound lol But yeah you're right just gotta work with what I have. Gotta keep experimenting with all the sounds and maybe I'll find what I'm looking for.
Good to get some critisim though. I really don't share my beats with people outside family and close friends so I never get to hear outside opinions at all :)

Does she GENUINELY believe she's talented or is she actually taking the piss? On the one hand, noone could be that retarded, but on the other hand, she seems believably retarded. I cant for the life of me work that shit out.

She seems VERY serious about it. She's not stupid, so i'm guessing maybe delusional..? She always says how she thinks she does
Michael Jackson covers better than MJ did it himself because he's very "monotone and boring" in her words. I don't know if she just
ignores that everyone laughs at her, is oblivious to it or what. ???
So after recording her several times i actually have no idea myself what's going on in her head.
Goddammit Wing. You are either the cleverest person in the world or just too awesome to care.
Bloody Wing Eh? Whatcha gonna do?
Yeah listening to some Tangerine Dream lately. Turns out this was the music I've been searching for for pretty much ever.
Proclamation - Advent of the black omen.
New Witchrist is pretty fucking average if you ask me.
im sorta glad i have no idea who this wing chick is.
anyways, whos feeling the BDO lineup so far? tool headlining and thats pretty much all i know.
only interest so far is lupe fiasco. he's cool, so he can be forgiven for appearing on the new moon soundtrack.

You think the new Witchrist is average but you're listening to Proclamation, you must be trollin' ;)
I tried listening to Proclamation and Archgoat, the music is alright but the low vocals in both bands seems average and a bit out of place with the music.
Just got a flash drive full of albums from a friend in Christchurch, I love Hank Williams III styled country so he sent me these:

Ha, the only time it sounds average, or flat is where parts of the song originally written in B guitar tuning didn't translate well over into A guitar tuning used on the album.
N.P. - Cauldron Black Ram - Skulduggery
Ignore the image used in the video clip. But I love this French shit. I don't even know what you'd call that genre of music. Where can I get mooore?
Edit: The genre to this kinda music is called Shibuya-Kei, and it's like Japanese jazz, electro pop fusions, inspired by French shit, and was popular in the 90s.
Man I needa find more.
I can highly recommend:
Fantastic Plastic Machine
Pizzicato Five
for you.
Gangsta.
I found capsule last night. Even their less Shibuya-Kei songs are mean. Do some cool electronic pop stuff.
I keep listening to the chorus for this:
^ That's Shibuya-Kei lol. Wasn't trying to say it's electronic pop.
Bit too auto tune for my tastes
Katamari has a lot of that stuff. I think there is a few Katamari-ish songs in the Lost in Translation soundtrack also.
Hey does anyone here like Natacha Atlas?
Also been wanting to get into some 70s progressive rock.
Easily the best song to come from the Street Fighter franchise.. well tied with ancient zone anyways.
And just when you think it can't get any better... A guitar solo.
Christ that's a good song.
ya i got this song on my street fighter soundtrack playlist ^_^ street figher EX @ alpha (ps1) has a very nice soundtrack

Bro, those are some pretty shots you got there. You experienced with the camera?
Thanks man, i started photography as a hobby about 3 years ago. Would like to do it more but i'd need to leave my current job to have time to do that.
Some photos i've taken in the past are here:
http://www.captainhook.co.nz/
I started out taking live photos for bands cause i always had a backstage pass or whatever so i could get access easy. Then i got into doing my own lighting etc
and don't really do live photos anymore unless i get offered and i'd like to see the band anyway. But most of the time i can't be bothered. :D

yeah, im easily amused by, for lack of a better word, 'upbeat' sounding music. like the actual lyrical content could be depressing as fuck, but as long as it sounds happy ill be, 'this song is awesome'

That's pretty g though. Niggaz got so much money , he can probably get someone else's teeth if he gets sick off it.

I love the Gorillaz. And this song is just too good.
I did think it was cooler when I thought it was a black woman singing, instead of some indie looking yuppie white dude.
one of the presents i got from my sister was the new kanye record. i like it. def darker than the previous outings, which sorta isnt my thing but whatever.
favourite track so far is monster. it has nicki minaj and while i dont really like her music just her fat ass, she kills it on that track. jay z is also on the same track and is less rubbish than usual.
Played this song on Extreme on Drummania the other day. Can't get it out of my head.

Apparently Kanye west sold his soul to the Devil. Not only him Jay Z , Rhianna etc....that's y they r famous and rich . I heard my friend told me that he saw somewhere documentary . Thats y when u saw Kayne is rich and weird now in some video clip.....Remember the icon they always hold on the hand ( diamond shape ) and the rock star icon is devil ... :-X
That would actually make me like him more, he definitely sold his soul for fame though not talent.
Now onto some real talent, the new Ra The Rugged Man and Vinnie Paz joint.
If anyone doesn't know who RA is check these out:

Wu-tang vs The Beatles
Mos Dub (Mos Def vs Reggae)
Dub Kweli (Talib Kweli vs Reggae)
Edit: Snoop Dogg is shit now.
I hate those mash ups hahah. I like the rap part but not the other lol.
Snoop will always have phat tracks g no doubt. Since like 2000 he been making shit traks also though.
Hahaha brooo the Beatles beats are mean! lol Oh and also listening to that Wale and 9th Wonder's "Back to the feature" mixtape. I'm not a big fan of Wale but I love 9th Wonder's beats. My favourite song is "Say it Again" pretty much because Royce da 5'9" is on the track ;D

Maybe. The mastering process is quite different so it tends to sound different to a CD or cassette anyway. Most of the cds these days are mastered for over the top volume at the expense of clarity and dynamics (take a look into The Loudness War if you care to), whereas it doesn't really work on vinyl.
Personally I find the physicality of the medium quite appealing, but there's also the artwork. Being able to actually tweak your player with different cartridges, needles etc is kind of cool too - what can you really tweak on a CD player? I guess you can solder in new DACs but that's not really something anyone wants to do.
You can find some really cheap shit at op shops too :)

What Alan said about the loudness wars is true, plus analog vs digital baby. LOL.
Even better is if the recording was to TAPE instead of a computer(digital capture) and then to vinyl.
Analog is generally naturally flattering in any format compared to digital. Take a look at film vs digital capture
in photography/film/movies/etc.
My assessments aren't just from an audience perspective, but as an audio engineer/photographer and i
can tell you analog capture is much easier to manipulate into something more pleasing as well.
(having said that i personally think it IS possible to get digital close to analog, but it requires a lot more
manipulating which is usually more effort/time..)
So you're probably wondering what the downside to analog is?
Cost.
Analog is much more expensive.
So basically the whole world has dumped quality in favour of cheapness/convenience. Aka mp3s or youtube. Lol.
The reason I didn't get into the analog vs digital thing is because THEORETICALLY 48khz or so sample rate is completely sufficient to encompass the range the human ear can really distinguish. Beyond that it kind of becomes "audiophile waffle" about some kind of audio gestalt that doesn't really fit with theoretical knowledge.
MP3 is another matter obviously, but that's a bunch of heuristics so it's really dependent on the source...
Prob not the place to discuss, but 48k is okay if the ADC/DAC implementation is done well enough. (band pass filter design etc). Otherwise there's aliasing issues that can occur within the audible range. Good designs are expensive to RND and produce, which is why 88.2/96k is often used. Its cheaper and easy than doing a well designed convertor that runs at 44.1/48k and puts any aliasing errors and such outside of the range that matters to us more. Lol @ us for cheapness winning again. :P
Probably not a surprise that many "older" digital convertors work much better @ 44.1/48k than more "modern" designs do.
But it's not about if digital can capture accurately (to me), its that analog capture imparts it's own character to the source that is IMHO generally flattering.
Designers spent a lot of time developing ways to make up for the "flaws" of the analog medium and in doing so, created processing that most of us like.
Digital for the most part seems to aim for "accurate" and as i've learned, we don't want the truth. We want the fantasy. :P
Film looks great. My photos shot on 6x7 transparencies look fantastic straight out of camera compared to digital (which need post work to get the same).
Same with motion picture. And everything i've recorded on multi-track tape sounded more like "music" playing it back "flat" than all the straight to digital stuff.
(again, i do believe with further post-processing you can get digital to compete with analog)
Analog reproduction is similar, but the difference is not always so pronounced.
So for me it's not about which is more accurate (i dont really care), i want the most flattery out of the box because it makes my job easier, and i enjoy
the results more. :)
That seems to be analog still.
Tape. Vinyl. Film.
Although i primarily use digital because it's cheaper. LOL!
