Date for the console tournament is 23/24 July (thanks to quick organising from Rory/Sami, now it doesn't clash with nationals). Also there is another announcement coming today. The main website in www.on3network.co.nz
This year it is separated from the PC tournament which is happening on 1/2/3 July. PC xLan is $95 and the thing is, if you buy a PC ticket you get free entry to the console event. I assume the console event by itself will be much cheaper, but they are sorting that out atm.
Venue is being decided on, they are currently looking at Caprica, Giga and the Bruce Mason Centre.
Currently on the list of potential games are:
- Halo:Reach
- Call of Duty:Black Ops
- Tekken 6
- Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3
- Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock
And possibly MK9.
Show some interest here guys on who's keen to come (last 2 years were awesome) and what games you'd like to play. Remember SSF4:AE will be out by then.
xLan is essentially the only "major" we have other than nationals and south regionals.
Also I forgot to mention that Tekken 6 will most likely be a WCG qualifier this year and if any other fighting games get picked up by WCG (they haven't finished announcing) then they will most likely get picked up.
Well I went to the last two so who knows.
nats are 16/17 of july so no xlan sorry
fuck fuck fuck. Any chance of changing it? I really don't wanna decide between nats and a WCG qualifier if GH:WoR gets in...
We set the date for nats a long time ago :/ And I think there are people who have already booked their tickets (munta?)
BTW I don't know if you have been to Giga recently but there is even less room now then there was before.
well in your case youd be silly to not go to the wcg thing cos your probably gunna win .
17th is just casuals anyway , 16th is the whole tourny
clash of the titans
Tell them you wont play Guitar Hero unless they have MVC3 and AE
mason i'm at work but do you know the organisers email? can't go hunting for it atm.
Do the TZ tekken players turn up for the T6?
last year a few did for tekken.
Only Jamie turned up last year from TZ. You can kind of count Andy Wong but he'd rather play SF than tekken.
Check your inbox Rory.
Yeah I came 3rd at Tekken lol, though we've always had a good SSF4 turnout. Tbh Andy was much more of a Tekken player back then.
No. He went to xlan specifically to play Street Fighter lol.
Oh ok I don't remember lol, I don't remember him even playing SSF4 then.
He started in vanilla! Hahahaha sad guy don't even remember new cunts =(
Yeah most tekken players played vanilla. But still he knew frames and heaps of tekken shit and at the time he just played Ryu and I'm sure he barely played.
Andy was late to xLan last year and got put into losers bracket, turn out to play me in losers and got knocked out... :(
He actually played a lot at yifans lol, very proficient Ryu I would say back then. I think he enjoy SF mroe than Tekken also lol.
try to keep us up to date with this Mason, cheers.
I would have liked to have attended both events this year. Havent been to xlan since 08 for halo.
Then vote here :) http://www.adversitygaming.com/avtforum/showthread.php?2007-xLAN-Potential-Date-Change-FEEDBACK-REQUIRED-URGENTLY
Yeah shot Rory for sorting it out with them that fast. I wasn't too sure about posting that link as it can be assumed that this whole community is in the list of can't make 16/17
Shot. Voted for the later date.
I just signed up specifically to vote. Lol.
The organisers were quick to get back to me which is great. It'd be great if you guys go to play at their tournament since they have been so accomodating.
:)
Lets hope X-Lan does not have the same problems it had last year.
Figured I should probably come in here myself.
Myself and Arseynimz will be running xLAN this year, and being separate from the PC event, there will be a complete focus on console players.
I'd love to know what you guys think could have been improved on from the last xLAN, because I want to make sure that this one is all about what the gamers want.
I'll admit, I'm a FPS gamer so I don't know much about fighting games, but I'll do everything I can to make sure you're all accommodated completely! :)
I thought last year wasn't too bad :)
a few things:
brackets needs to be out earlier and game scheduled to play on time.
Competitors should arrive on time too...
Was waiting too long for games last year... myabe a few more setups will help.
Definitely some better monitors please lol, The grand final monitors were laggy last year lol...
But overall the organizers were helpful last year.
OK guys, date changed to 23/24th of July so it doesn't clash with our nationals. Who's keen and for what games? If we don't do MK9 at nats then we could probably push for that at xlan as I'm sure there will be people outside nzism who will be playing and keen for a tournament.
Also a new announcement about PC xLan has been made.
"We are pleased to announce the tournaments for xLAN 2011, and at the same time send live our new LAN sign up module and tournament registration!
Tournaments
The tournament final listing for which over $10,000 in prizes (and growing) will be on offer:
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty Black Ops
Counter-Strike 1.6
Counter-Strike: Source
Heroes of Newerth
League of Legends
Quake Live
Starcraft 2
Team Fortress 2
Trackmania Nations Forever
We will also be running a number of "casual" tournaments for which will include the likes of World of Warcraft Power Levelling and also a Minecraft Build it Bigger competition. We are expecting particular attention on the Starcraft 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Quake Live tournaments, and know of a few Australian teams who are looking to make their way across to raise the competitive bar. We will be having a very big purse for the CSS, SC2, and QL tournaments, and you can expect to see prize pools that will ensure you push to get a team signed up, trained up and attending xLAN 2011. We will announce these prizes in coming weeks as a few more sponsors are confirmed."
Remember, free entry to console xLan if you go to PC xLan (heck just go to leech shit if you want and a couple people could bring xboxs as well, there will be Halo boys going to PC xLan).
Still no word on console only pricing? Really not interested in the PC side at all.
Fair enough. They're still deciding on a venue atm so not gonna get a price detail for a while. If you guys got any suggestions for venues I can pass them onto Sparzx.
I should go rape at CoD blops and BF:BC2, and get me some monay.
Haha fuck we should train up for the HoN tourney

niueans must think alike
Bro Niueans need to get better computers and actually play the fuckin game. Seriously we should all hit up giga and have a honfest one time. But yea, If we get some Marvel/MK happening at this, I might actually have to make an effort this year.
Dota ftw.. fuck HoN :P
actually I'm waiting for Dtoa 2 :D
Everyones waiting for Dota2. I'm just playing hon in the meantime.
For the console pricing - It will definitely be lower than PC, since we won't be paying as much for the venue hire as they will for the PC one.
As for the venue for console xLAN - we're in the final stages of confirming from what I'm aware so once it's confirmed I'll come back and update you all :D
