Title: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: Midnite on January 31, 2010, 11:55:44 PM
(http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii187/MidniteSpartan/AHNZannouncementF.jpg)

The first LAN of the 2010 circuit for NZ is coming to Auckland and NZism is here to bring you a premier fighting experience! This April 02/03/04 is your ticket to earning fame, cash and your chance to earn season points to secure the best seed possible for all AusHalo online and LAN events.

Compete in Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, Street Fighter 4 and Tekken 6 for your chance to win a share of the $2500 prize pool.

For full event details check out: http://www.aushalo.net/1st-nz-stop-announced.html
For Halo registration: http://aushalo.net/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=0&func=view&catid=24&id=54440
For everything else email cloudlan.nz@gmail.com with your name, alias and game(s) you are registering for

For event registration for SF4/T6 send me a PM or email to cloudlan.nz@gmail.com and I'll update this post. SF4 and T6 are both 1v1 and the prize pool will be worked out depending on attendees. The prize pool will consist of $20 (2/3's) of the entry fee. So 20 people entering = $400 prize pool, 40 = $800 so on and so forth.

The weekend will be loads of fun guys regardless of how you place. Street Fighter and Tekken will both be major events and there is going to be a pretty solid prize pool which will only go up as more people show.

ALSO: I am working on getting either an early copy of Super Street Fighter 4 or preview code for the event. Haven't got final confirmation yet but will post back once I do.

PRICE UPDATE: For all 'fighters' competing in SF4 or T6 the entry fee has dropped to $30. If you choose to enter both SF4 and T6 it will cost you $40

The registration part is confusing. Its only for 4v4 teams right? Where can we register if we're just going to be competing in SF4/T6? (Which im assuming isn't going to be team-based.)

Realistically you might as well just give me the prize money now, but i guess i should register and do it properly. :P

What exactly is the prize?  I'm having trouble understanding what is up for offer and what you have to do to win.

I think that this is like a prelim for something else?

To be fair Andy, if Giga sponsored Simon and Kevin (and mike?) the $85 entry for XLAN last year, im sure theyll spot you the $50 for this, as long as you wear one of their hoodies. And you probably have a legit shot at winning the prize money aswell, which would make it totally worth it, whether you pay the $50 or not.

you're probably right though I have never though of asking for sponsors, just play it for my own sake!!! btw I dont think mike (iMagneto) if you're talking about him has ever been in the picture with teh sponsoreship I think...
Either way we as a community has improved in skills so much that I don't stand a chance against most of you guys anymore lol, $50 bucks isn't much of a problem for me but I am just poiting out that its a bit much and for many of us I assume -.-

But this does sound good as atleast some people are getting some hype us and not just us !!!

Yup, the 3rd is my 21st. Shit! It's my 21st. Oh well, i'll just make it go the whole week cos i dont wana miss this like i did x-lan. I was rich as when x-lan was on. Just kept bying too many beers with my acc paycheck.

Zosla: Yer were pretty good how the skill gap not too significant. But the T6 community is like a few people beast everybody. Or so i hear.

$50 is a fair bit cheaper than the XLan fee, and the prizes aren't worthless games (and a medal with "street fighter 5" on them). Plus the whole console division isn't just a tacked on extra with very little thought. It's entirely likely the people running the tournaments might actually care/know who should be playing, as well!

Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: stereomonkey on February 02, 2010, 01:09:32 PM
But don't forget what the best thing about xLan was... the THREE fucking long days of (as smoof said) mashing out games and hanging out.  Even jamming all night long playing Dan mirror battles (not me but some damager guys did).

With each day being 12hours and looking like just the games that are there it doesn't seem as enticing as xLan was.  Don't get me wrong, the tournament side of xLan was shocking but still at least it was great to have a venue for such a long time.

Still, in the end I think this would be a neat event.  Wish I could come too :(

Post by: Skullator on February 02, 2010, 01:44:04 PM
Yea true Stereo, hows this venue compare space wise?
Worth us bringing setups so we can jam out all weekend?
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: fluxcore on February 02, 2010, 01:50:32 PM
NZism is supporting this event, and I really think it's the best tournament we are going to get prize-wise, so you guys should really get into it.

Also, until RvB is up and running again this is probably going to be the ONLY open tournament we are going to get for quite a few months. The regular training sessions NZism were having is untenable at the moment due to lack of venue, so we're relying on the gatherings at people's houses for the meantime.

Also consider this will in all likelihood be the LAST tournament for SF4! Winning will crown you as champion of all time :)

You could try Giga for Venue while RvB is moving, I'm sure they can give you some good deals like what RVB has been doing. dunno just my thought.

I just hope RvB dont move to botany or North shore.... it will be LAME getting there -.-

Desh was mentioning Howick last I talked to him.

GIGA is ok I guess, but you can't really cram the same number of setups (or people) in there very easily for training...

Its a lot more spacious than you think and lots of seats. Though it does lack consoles, we can run max 4 machines including a projector. I guess its good for smaller sessions :D

So Id have to drive from pukekohe to albany everyday plus the entry fee counts me out .

Im sure the street fighter portion isn't 4 days worth. And the $50 is pretty steep, but if we get enough people it will be worth it i reckon. Some of you probably dont feel the same way though.

Chip ins for a dirty hotel would be cheap as.  And we could have games there.
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: Midnite on February 02, 2010, 06:18:50 PM
The event is not limited to just what I've listed. There will be LOADS of free time for attendees to play whatever they want. As for a setup for the fighters there is a projector at the venue which will not be used the entire time, I'm probably going to bring a second projector for other stuff and if anyone here wants to being a big ass tv or a projector you are most welcome to. Getting a sweet fighting game setup is something that I would love to see and its not as formal as everything has been made out to be.

In regards to the price being steep. I know that it is up there however as said above xLan charged $85 last year which got the winners a few games. I promise a cash prize at this event and at present the formula is 80% of entry fee goes towards the prize pool. So if 20 of you guys come for SF4 thats $800 in the prize pool right there. Plus some extra cash from those competing in multiple events.
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: fluxcore on February 02, 2010, 07:03:55 PM
If a projector is to be used for these games, I must strongly advise checking that it is 0 lag, otherwise people WILL complain, and it will definitely hurt the chances of a second successful event...

I guarantee that every serious fighting game player would rather play on a small lagless screen than any large laggy screen. If there is an option, using a small screen for the players and a separate projector is great, because then the lag doesn't affect the players.

Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: Midnite on February 02, 2010, 07:48:34 PM
In regards to projectors i was meaning as a secondary output. So people will play on a 19-24" monitor (2ms so as good as it gets really) and then the match screened on a projector as well for spectators and to get a better feel for things.
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1

What do you reckon if we sat up some diy mini tournaments on the side?  Could be good if allowed? :)
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: Midnite on February 02, 2010, 10:31:53 PM
Definitely by all means. I want this weekend to be a success in regards to the events I've put forward with their prizes but more importantly is the attendees having a good time and enjoying the event outside of tournaments.
So long as none of the mini-comps clash with tournament rounds then you can do whatever.

Midnite, is there any particular reason why the Tekken tourney will be run on 360? I was just thinking about posting about this event on Tekken Zaibatsu, but by far the biggest response will be something along the lines of "can't use playstation pad, not going".

I don't see Microsoft as one of your sponsors, so is there any scope for moving it to PS3?

Weazzy, Giga is in central cbd so parking is on street, I get free VIP parking since I know him pretty well :D

Well this tournament is sounding better already and I am prepared to attend, though 3days of gaming may cause my GF to bring a knife out and make my life a living hell lawl.

Fluxcore, I kinda understand how Mason feels...just too much of a gap.. unless he gets sponsored then its a different story :D

Ben, we should get some sessions at ur place sometimes :P been awhile yo :)

If not, why bother spending time playing competitively at all?

Also, plenty of people shittier than Mason will be entering, myself included.

In the next few days some more sponsors should be coming through. Microsoft & the XBOX 360 brand are a part of the bunch I believe will be involved. So depending on their response will depend on the PS3 situation

And flux, xlan was me winning guitar hero and previously going to singapore and meant to go to china. I was real bad at sf4 back then, but tourney was awesome I gotta admit. Hopefully Giga wants to sponsor me for SF4 LOL.

Yeah, around $160-200 to fly return.  Probably cost the same driving or actually even more... ouch

thats right so flying would be a wiser choice in saving time = more things you can do and also petrol would cost you about $150 both ways.

Yeah but you can change your plates and do the runners on gas. Plus theres heaps a lil shops on the way, you can do the runners on snacks. And you can smoke weed on the way up. Do some runners on some 40's and spray cans and get fame on the way up.

Man me and my friends deserve to be in a horror movie where we're the young adults who get slashed during a road trip. I'll be the one who lives, cos i'll do the runners on some knives and gunz.

Haven't you seen horror movies with brown guys in it?  The brown guys always die.

Depends I guess if you are coming up alone.  If there are a few of you, you can save cash driving up.  Plus its a pretty pleseant trip.  I like long car trips.

i just asked neal since hes a regular on tz and usually the one who organises tourneys so peeps would prob notice him posting

most people play on stick for t6 well if they on TZ they do (since generally arcade players = stick players anyway) and most of the complaints would be from non arcade users who always complain about xbox pad but no one i know plays tekken on pad also the hardest to get interested in this tourney

and yes i play t6 but to be honest im average at best but im up for a game if you are

and stu the cost of petrol for me is bout 200-300 return so if its split 4 ways its a bit cheaper unless grab a seat got something good goin

Yer, theyre all arcade abusers. But TRUST ME. PS3 will def get more people, which is good for the TZ guys wanting to get rich. I've been trying to spread this tourny around too.

But some wont enter cos the price too steep. And they dont consider themselves top tier. The world needs more gullible people like me out there.

The only problem with these TZ guys is they dont have sticks. Hmmm , any ideas?

Maybe if it dont clash with SF4 (f'n hope not) we could loan them some. And if WAS on PS3 us guys with ps3 sticks wouldn't need them.

The reality is that if they have it on PS3, it will make very little difference.  The majority of players that play tekken 6 competitively play in the arcade, and are well accustomed to using a stick anyway.

Particularly anyone considers that is themselves good enough to enter a tournament for $50-00.

Recent examples include the TZ tournaments which have ample turnout.

Yer THEY wouldn't, theyre from the arcade. But heaps of dudes will wana jam on pad, thats a given. Whether it be a Lan dude practicing right now, thinking hes all that (extra $10 remember). Or some rich scrub thinking he's all that.

I doubt it's gonna be the 5 or so guys from TZ coming.

Hey Barnstorm, are your boys on stick or pad? And which platform?

Only if it gets HEAPS of peopole will it be worth it.  Believe me, running any sort of event you want all the hardware to be the same, unless there is gonna be some MAJOR benefit from having differing consoles.  We have learned this from experience.

I have been to loads of tekken tournaments in the past, and everyone uses stick.  It really isnt worth his time and effort to change to PS3 tbh.

Ive always wondered why they went with PS3 for EVO tbh.  XBOX is easier to work with in terms of unlockables etc etc.
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: fluxcore on February 04, 2010, 05:15:08 PM
Yeah, it was just something I was thinking of. Even with SF4 people were complaining about not being able to use ps pads and things, so I just assumed tekken would have the problem even worse.

Of course, the only tekken tourney I've ever been to was the one that I ran myself at TimeZone, so yeah my experience in the tekken community obviously isn't particularly solid.

Definitely sounds like 360 is fine though.

Yeah.

Honestly Allan, after all the hastle it has caused us, we must remember for next tourney to make sure that we pick a console and stick with only the one console.

OMFG, have you's EVER used the 360 pad for a fighting game? Well? I didnt think so. F becomes DF/UF, B becomes DB/UB. 3 of my mates got SF4 after jamming at my house, really keen to get into it and get theyre revenge on me. First day the got it they stopped playing complaing about the D-Pad. I went over to show them up, and was like WTF!!!  Fuck this fucking pad. I've said this a thousand times here. Is there a reason for you's ignoring this MAJOR factor. I can only imagine how many more people would've seriously gotten into this game if shitbox had done there fucking research on other genres besides FPS.

I used to play T4/T5.0 hardout with a group of my mates. We went to console tournies at Gamesman/Central park. None of us even had internet. But i won a T4 one on PS3 that had shitload of cunts playing. The prize was a $1000 PS2 package FFS.

Go with PS3, EVO not stupid.

Thats if you want this event to be big. Or you might aswell have it at TZ. Doesnt bother me. Just dont be stupid.

xpunch did well playing on the xbox pad. I doubt he wouldve done as well on the ps3 pad. If youre used to it, youre going to do better on it. plain and simple. Going full PS3 will piss of xbox pad players, and the opposite will piss off PS3 pad players. And doing both is a pain in the ass.

Theres no winning in this situation.

In the end it should be stick only.  It's the universal peripheral for all fighting games and the highest percentage of players will play on stick.

For those looking at flights vs cart from Welly. My original flights cost $118 return. Since then I had to change the dates costing an extra $90. Total time in the air is 1.5 hours and my time is worth more than saving a bit road tripping. Didn't event need grab a seat either.

And really stoked about the tekken news. Could someone please link me to the thread on TZ (I have never been on their board) and also if any of you have anything you really want to see at this event please either post it or message me. I am relatively confident I'll provide for you guys adequately with Flux's assistance and input however I want to run these events regularly (should have 2-3 more lined up for 2010) so want to really support the fighting community as best I can.

Cheers guys  :D

Cheers dude.

OK guys I've found a solution. But only if the PS3 pad players pay in advance for the event. It will ultimately reduce the overall prize pool for the first event but I'm more than happy to pay 50% of the cost.
http://www.eXtreme-Mods.com/XCM-Cross-Fire-Converter-for-Xbox-360-p/xb360-xcmcrossfireconverter.htm
This allows PS3 controllers to be used on a 360. I don't believe there is any lag (from reviews) and seems to work perfectly. I would ultimately have to pick up 2 incase of a PS3 pad vs PS3 pad however it is a one time expense. (Works out to be $115 NZD plus shipping)

If this is something that will get a much larger turnout then let PS3 pad players know, get them in this thread, get them to prepay and you guys will have one sick T6 comp at the event.
Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1
Post by: fluxcore on February 04, 2010, 10:22:22 PM
There's also a PS2->360 converter which may be a possibility... "XConverter 360".

As for the converter you're talking about, from the Shoryuken thread at http://www.shoryuken.com/archive/index.php/t-181251.html the jury didn't seem to have reached a verdict on how good they are. I'd really hate to get prepays from people for the ability to use PS3 pads and then have a suboptimal outcome for them...

It would really be easier to use PS3s, but I understand how sponsorship deals go.

Yea I'm very torn between the idea. Was putting it out there as an option for pad users. For the time being I'll sit back and see what peoples responses are. I've registered on TZ and as soon as the stupid 48 hour wait period is over and I'll try to be a bit more involved across the various communities to not only benefit this event but the future ones also.

Sounds like everyones excited which is good, sick of certain people trying to bring this event down for stupid reasons, also the projectors will be fine dont worry about them if we do use them for playing on (not to sure) they will be lag free as the organizers know what they want equipment wise.

its hard to get a lag free projector

and most people play on monitor and others can watch the projector thats usually how it works but the main issue comes in here when trying to relay the picture to big screen

this was a problem at evo apparently

Leonard, Alan, Ben, James (Hyrdo), Bill... preferably someone from the last three should be the ones to commentate street fighter.  Only since Leo and Alan are not big fans of the game atm.

The general idea is to get one play-by-play guy who is calling the game, and one colour guy who talks the random shit and makes hype. So unless smoof or euan want to do play-by-play, I'm not so sure it would work that well :)

As for me commentating, hahahah... anyway, I might be running the brackets, which would make it hard.

April hmmmmm... May be able to swing it.

I'll see if anyone else from CHCH is keen to come.

I was expecting the next tourney to be a SSF4 one run by NZism. I also liked the low entry fee of the last tourney for casuals to join the fray. Not a chance in hell for me to take the title, so it would be $50 on top of flying up there and accommodation (possibly) just for the experience.

But if the turn out is the same or bigger than the last RvB jam I was at it would be worth it. Especially if it's over a couple of days with people bring other games, consoles and what not. I do hope locals make an effort to prove that the fighting game community is one worth supporting.

It might be the last get together I can make for a while since I'm heading to Germany for 2 months in July then stopping over in Japan on the way back for a couple o days.

Hmmmmmm......  :-\

If anyone is under the age of 18 and wants to come the following form will need to be printed, filled out and brought to the event before entry will be permitted.

Hey midnite just to recap, we are sweet to bring PS3's along with our 24" monitors for casuals right? It's not going to be like.. No PS3's allowed due to sponsorship?

Most definitely. Players are more than welcome to bring any console they choose however none of the events run as a part of Cloud LAN will be on anything but the 360's.

Was also thinking that Blazblue will be out by then so I'm keen to get a mini tournie going for that.

Thanks for the reply.

I know alot of people on this forum really enjoy blazblue (calamity trigger, current console title) but with a new Arcade version out (Continuum shift, which has been leaked to PC ;\ ) I'm really not sure about the Blazblue community or how many people could compete in an event like that, who knows I could be totally wrong and there could be 20 dudes itching for a chance to rock out on calamity.. but just thought I would run that by you (The game has been "patched" by it's new version, so no longer "current" so to speak by the hardcore\tournament attending communities)

But thanks for letting me know about the casuals, a big selling point for this event is not the actual tournament, it's the ability to chill with your mates at a good venue and just jam for a whole weekend ;]
So yeah I will deffo make it to this.

By the way.. regarding speakers \ sound, it's difficult to get 2x headphones into PS3's (Particularly after you factor in 2x USB joysticks..) we all good to have built in 24" monitor speakers playing the game quite quietly? You can't play fighting games without the visual and audio queues helping you land your combos.

Cheers for the feedback on Blazblue. I'll look into getting myself a copy and bringing it along and see how things go from there. In regards to speakers I'm more looking towards people playing Halo and MW2 as having headphones rather than speakers. On the day I'll talk get all the 'fighters' together and go over how things will be run.

In regards to the casual thing, thats my main goal for the event. The past 2 years I've gone to xLan have been entirely for the social aspect of things. I love a good competition but its the casual fun that you have with the people you've played with online for so long that makes the events something to remember.

If you or anyone else have any suggestions please make them known. I am looking to cater for everyone at the event. Sure some things won't be possible but I really want to make this an event everyone enjoys to the fullest.

Well seems as though you are putting some solid effort into making sure things turn out well, and even posting on a forum like this shows how dedicated you are to making things run smooth, so you got my full support.

Last year at Xlan, my first match of the tourny I was disq'd for turning up "late" despite the organizers never having given an actual start time before the event (I drove up at 9AM from Tauranga, arrived at venue about 11:30AM, disq'd but told that it was "All good" because I was still in the losers bracket) My next match was against the leader of this community, Fluxcore, he wasn't around from Hamilton during the exact moment this guy deemed worthy, and so I won my second match by default with Flux eliminated I think. Then I played my first match of the event and lost to NZ's guitar hero champion Mason haha.. so yea... great tourny and just an example of how shit console players have been treated in the past at mass events.

Thanks again and seeya there.

Cater to my needs Midnite. Make a guitar hero competition and put all the event's money into it. But na nice work on organising it, looks to be real awesome. Do you by any chance need a spare team for H3? I'm sure NZism could put one together for the lols if you do.

Regarding xLan, expect to see some very nice changes this year for the console side. Things are looking for a bright future for console events this year and next.

I'd love some extra teams for Halo. Even if they are just muckaround teams. The more the merrier. Will be a good laugh also.

I'm more than happy to do a GH comp on the day and just give away some games as prizes and things. If you reckon a good few people will sign up then I'll more definitely do it. Flick me a PM or email (cloudlan.nz@gmail.com) with your thoughts and I'll let ya know.

To be honest, I think Xlan this year is on the same weekend as Las Vegas's Evolution 2010 Tournament (Streamed world wide fighting game tournament event from way back, youtube Evo moment 37 Baby!)
If this is indeed the case, expect nobody from here to turn up, sorry =\ (July 9th - 11th, caesers palace, las vegas)

Games include SSFIV, Tekken6, Blazblue etc and pretty much the entire community for all games stays home to watch the best in the world be the best in the world and learn from their play.

I didn't realise the events were clashing this year. Lameness. Will see how things go. Wanted to watch Evo again this year too.
Either way I should be holding a few more events this year so there will definitely be some more opportunities for everyone to get together.

I was sorta joking about the guitar hero, but yeah I'll bring all my equipment anyway and I know a few of the Halo players do play. xLan does clash with Evo which is really gonna suck for this community, especially since we won't be able to stream it if we do go to xLan (I will be going).

WCG has just announced it's first 7 titles and in there is GH5 and Tekken 6... I guess xLan would be running tournaments for both.

Hey everyone,

The entry fee for people playing either SF4 or T6 has changed to $30. If you want to play both then it will cost you $40.

For the entry fee you will get access to the 3 day event, entry into your chosen tournament(s) as well as use of all the facilities and infrastructure at the venue.

Lets make a final push to get as many SF4 & T6 signups as we can! Only 2 weeks left till the event!

NB. Because of the decrease in entry fee the prize pool will be calculated accordingly ($20 from every attendee will go to the prize pool)

Hey midnite, is the SF4 comp going to just be on one day? Or across them all. Ive got work commitments on the weekend, but i can always come down with AIDS or something. Id prefer not to miss work though, so i figured id query.

(Also, for the rest of us, Cloudlan on the Friday actually conflicts with our next Ranbats. Not that this is a big deal. Actually, it might not, depending on what time everything happens.)

I'm looking at running pool play on the Friday to get seeds for the brackets which will start on Saturday. The finals will be played on the Finals will be played on the Sunday.

If people have other commitments and everyone entering agrees to speed things up and to get them all done on one or two days instead of all three I'm more than happy to run it that way.

Just prepaid for the event

Question I flicked to Midnite in the email-
By the way, I'll post this question on the NZism forum topic too, is there parking provided at the venue? Or anything close by you would recommend?

I believe there is on site parking available (i'll confirm this evening), if not there should be loads of parking nearby that will be suitable.

Title: Re: Cloud LAN 01 - AH Pro Circuit NZ Stop 1

Planning on winging things pretty hard Mason, I was thinking of arriving some time between 9:30AM - 11AM based on midnite saying Street fighter would start at 12 (I think he posted that)

You worried about Cloud overlapping Ranbats or other time issues? Yeah I'm not sure how late each day Cloud lan tournies will go for.
We should be sweet to boost from Cloud to Ranbats tho hopefully, I can't see there being that many entrants, so things shouldn't drag on too late? Dunno.

Btw if anyone needs a ride from A to B that weekend let me know.

I might enter to help numbers, but I don't have a copy of the game and I don't know if anyone who's coming has the game on xbox. Actually Gino does so we should be sweet.

It's only $30 for the fighters Neal so definitely come. I guess I'll be there by 10:30.

I'll also bring H3 I might as well and borrow H2 off a friend, cause it's awesome. Do you have the multiplayer map pack Midnite?

And yeah I'll bring guitar hero and what not, and if you wanna do a little tourney, I have rules for this year's WCG and ESWC for GH5 or else if people would rather play GH3 then yeah you can go with that. I'll even attempt rock band if that's more popular.
