My bad T______T ......i wish i can play in it instead of yun and yang hahahha
I play but def not at high level. I mainly play because one of my friends plays it at a decent level but for some reason he won't pick up CvS2. I mainly play Ryu and a pretty weak Urien :(
I try to play Ken ;D
Hrm, Ulrira plays a very mean Q.
I hate Ken and Chun, so when I played I progressed to Makoto and Urien. I just hate the top tiers in this game.

He is afterall, almost god tier.

He's been promoted to #1 in the game, apparently. I hate him too :D But at least he's more interesting to watch than Ken/Chun... although his entire game plan is build super, hit it.

this is pretty old, but look at ken getting dominated by hugo

Im pretty awesome in SF3 as well...
Using Yun, Yang, Dudley, Chun, Ken, Makoto, Ryu... :-\
I need challengers! Anyone??
l love Parry!!!! So much fun
Makoto is apparently top tier in Japan, but she isn't considered such in American play because she is so unpredictable, tis what I read on shoryuken.com
And I don't particuarly find Yun play that interesting, build up super, same Genei-Jin combo's. What I love seeing though, is someone against Yun breaking Genei-Jin and smashing Yun very hard in the face.
Call me bias though, cause I play Ken. :P
I wanna play Remy more, but I need to get a better hang of charge partrioning. Also, Necro's are cool to watch, PinoAB7 and Sugiyama are effing beasts.
We should have a tourny in this game too~ !!!!

who has advice for fighting lame urien and his annoying aegis reflector bs. im only using ryu for the moment, because i have a love affair with his side kick/blade kick/shuolder breaker kick. using SA1 cause that gives me the most meter to do pointless EX moves.
oooh, and explain to me how to kara throw. i know what it does, i just dont know how to go about it.
Umm, you can shin shoryuken through it? :D
Most obvious answer is "don't get into a position where urien can do aegis bs on you", although that's not super helpful, huh. You can kinda parry some aegis crap, but him hitting you at the same time fucks that up pretty hard.
Can't remember what Ryu's kara command is, but in general it's some-normal-move-that-makes-you-go-forward and then a throw input straight afterwards. Kinda timing like roll cancelling, or magic throw button presses - it's a cascade, not exactly together but really close together.
edit: my 3s strat book says Ryu's kara throw is F+MP. It also says that kara throws are slower than normal throws (since you need the 1~2 frames of the normal attack to come out first), and therefore don't use them when you are in throw range anyway, only when you need the extra range.
--flux
ahahahaha, i beat the wanker who pwned me out with urien last time. annoying turtle ryu was awesome. and now i just more or less EX shoryu whenever he pulls out that annoying aegis bs. if im lucky i smack urien away so he can't get back close again before aegis runs out.
also, kara throwing is fail cakes.

You need to learn what your opponent's looking for. He's probably waiting for you to stick out a poke and then they can simply parry it and go into super.
Ryu's main strength is his high stun game. Also learn to parry pokes into simple combos like. Parry -> cr MK-> Hurricane or cr MK-> Shinku Hadoken etc. That will be your bread and butter.
Also obviously dashing and throwing can act as a psychological tactic. I'm not a strong Shoto player but when I play Ryu I dash all over the place and keep in and out of poke range.
But yeah ...hope that helps. :-\

just kidding ;D ;D ;D ;D
I believe you charge down while tackling, then do F, D, F as the dash motion and then charge down again while dashing, and because your F motions are super quick the charge is still built up, so you can headbutt.
Not that I've ever attempted it or anything.

DUDLEY RAPE
dudleys mp is so gay. way too fast.
whos got some protips for trowa barton? im just whoring out regular and EX mantis slashes.
Learn cr. short xx EX chops (with all 5 hits, not the mashed out 4 hit version).
Too fast to block on reaction let alone parry fish (unlike cr. forward), SEEMS to do more stun and comes out as fast as a throw. Will make opponents block low all round or die which opens up dive kicks/UOH, st. short, EX chops/command throw as well as his good standing mixups/meatys against low parriers (ie. close st. forward, fierce and strong).
And practice getting in the habit of jumping straight up and using dive kicks to move forward instead of jumping forward. They give a more deceptive arc to parry and pick out the whiff/empty jump.
ace. gonna work with that and go from there :)
Might I add that you're fortunate to pick a character with some great colour schemes! ;D
I wish I had my PC now =(
Necro is pretty cool imo. He would have been cool in SF4. Street Fighter 4 series is begging for some such designs.
does trowa have any other anti airs like roo's standing hk? pure retardedness is giving me a headache with his stupid tele/anti air commands. WHY COULDNT THEY BE THE OTHER WAY ROUND :(
Against computers/idiots standing Fierce should do for AA.
Against players who actually parry: cr. Fierce can be good (2 hits) or hop jump roundhouse or foward kick, divekick (2 hit again) or for someone who is really insistent on empty jumps you can just mash jab.
You can always just block or parry though of course :)
In my experience his teleport is only good for covering ground after knockdown or as a wakeup crossup, and his stupid qcf. kick move = death, so you shouldn't be doing either vs a jump in.
When I was playing against Yang CPU he would always do that annoying launch kick as an anti air. Close MK?
Yeah that's it, but not really good for anti-air unless they're jumping straight up. Probably worth cancelling into super jump in case they parry and try to throw (a-la Chun Li close Roundhouse).
Weird kick that one, (seems best for wakeup, but if you get a perfect meaty it doesn't launch) but has a disgusting amount of resets and mixups which come out from landing it.

This isn't really as difficult as it's made out to be, it's probably the easiest partition in the game. Not that it's super easy or anything. It's still a partition like anything else but because it's in the middle of a combo, you don't have to worry about any other factors, it just becomes muscle memory like any other combo. Basically do the combo you listed, cr. fierce, mk tackle xx hp reflector, rh tackle. After the RH tackle, start building a down charge, then dash, and immediately go to down as soon as you can, to finish the charge, then MP headbutt. If you mess around with this against the CPU for a few sessions (against sean, free parry everytime he attacks), you should pick it up fairly quick.
yeah i was getting the timing down.. but that was like 2 years ago haha, might try pick it up again >:(

Most of the better players down here have dabbled a bit with Alex, most of us picked him up real quick... you kinda need to put a little time into learning all your variants/mixups and then go to town from there, next stop stunsville. I think most of us get by with just kara throw/ex slash for the knockdown and powerbomb/headbutt/st. fierce (meaty trades with dp)/sweep/BIG BOOT!, rinse repeat. ;D
My Alex seems to suck now due to obsessions with j.mk or ex. elbows xx SAII from fullscreen.

I don't believe Alex is good for beginners at all.
His high damage combos and jump ins are godlike and SUPER EASY but he gets BODIED by any highmid tier let alone the top.
I appreciate what you mean though, and yeah if you're new to the game you can definitely do a lot of damage and end matches fast but against players who've played a lot it's a lot tougher.
A real good beginner character is Ken haha. Everything that dude has is nasty and super solid, but he sort of lacks some of the tricky gimick's that characers like Dudley, Makoto and Urien have.
I'd also argue Dudley is above Ken in the tiers because he go's really even with Chun. I'd say Makoto is very close to top, and SBO results would back me up, but even fools like J or Momochi are too fucking random for her to be tiered in the top 3.
Look at 09 SBO Finals for example, Momochi does a full screen RANDOM fierce dash punch. XCOPYING that will get you destroyed hah.
It's really good to see you guys pick up the game more for nationals etc, should make for an exciting comp.
Especially because unlike the USA, I highly doubt we will 75% Chun 25% Yun 0% anyone fun.
Don't you go bringing tiers into this, bucko!
...But Duds is definitely below Ken/Mak who are about even imo, even below Yang too. Maybe Urien/Agooma but that might be pushing it.
The easiest charcter to learn with is Elena, IMHO... Even though she's a bad version of Chun you can play so lazy with her and still annoy the shit outta reasonable players... she's got some nasty normals, most of which are unthrowable, j.RH double hit and st.RH are godly to spam and you'll catch players out with them even who try low hit/throw. Just don't use any of her special moves and you'll do juuuuuuuuuuuust fine. Her only ground hit confirm is a pretty tight one unfortunately but her SAII does about as much damage as chuns if you can get it down, and she's got a pretty decent kara-throw.
Or Denjin. Urgh.

Yeah I was going to say Elena.
Haha fair enough about tiers, I'll add one more thing though.
I really doubt dudley is below those dudes but Akuma does beat Dudley 6-4 iirc, but Dudley is the nastiest character in the game with any amount of meter. The only thing he is even lacking is a long rangeish low hit confirm but he does not need that.

Really Elena?
in my experience (which is not much)
all she has is throw(kara) for any real damage
for combo starter she has cr.mp which is a not a low but can be parried both high and low (takes the guess out of parrying)
or cr.lk,cr.lk xx super II
i would say easiest to learn is ryu, ken or chun
Birry Wong has no problems jumping in at the deep end. Real men drown instead of swim anyway.

You can play Elena like Chun. You don't run around spamming specials and looking for combos, just play solid footsies and poke then when you can punish she can unleash hell.
Also she has stupid amount of overheads and weird normals and multi hit moves.
I find ryu awesomely easy to pick up ala his shoto buzz
and ken, cos its 3s ken lol ::)
but the way your explaining how to play elena, only someone who is above beginner level would understand. (Baiting and Solid Footsies)
Im not tryna be a dick, just that when your tryna explain something to some one whos just starting to play this game, i find footsies in 3s abit different to other sf, but thats just me, also they've gotta get used to parrys aswell. I'd tell them to go with someone that has a better all-round game, so you can pick up the basics then move onto specialised characters. Ryu and Ken are that for me in this game.......im sure ive completly missed someone altogether but thats where I'd point Mr Ill in....
But thats just my 2cents.
although you can't choose which character they'd like so if he wants Alex then......its alex ::)
Yeah you're probably right.
When it comes down to it, if you want to pick someone to start with, I'd go with someone who has hit confirms and deals good damage either off of normals or off of combos.
Ryu is solid as hell in these fields but what you will probably find is that he's kind of overly simple, so you have to be on point with mixups otherwise his shit is so obvious and you're going to be easily parried.
I do think you make poking with Elena sound complicated though. Her normals are pretty damn good, and s. RH going over lows as well as being able to move it forward and backward is insane. Her jump attacks are also amazing. She does probably take a little more confidence to pick up and use though, as she isn't a tried and true shoto.
You do sort of end up in a certain point in 3s where once you know the game you can pretty much use anyone mostly because of the parry system and uoh. You just add in some different mixups or whatever each character has then go to town in similiar ways you do with your main.
One positive of choosing Ryu or Alex is that at least you aren't gimped with health so you have some leeway when it comes to taking risks ie parrying, that you don't really have the luxury of attempting with some other characters i.e necro, remy, ibuki.
As far as non shotos that I don't believe are intimidating to take up, I'd say Yang. Yang has a lot of neat complicated shit but even just with low and high combos into swipes, and some basic dive pressure he's solid.

mash forward. press s. mp juggle win
mash forward...
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bitter!
Haha.
Oro, start by playing him as a poke character, st.fk xx command throw is your punish, cr.fk xx command throw, st.fp and kara throw your mixups. Deck them, 3 stone tengu -> st.short and cr.short 'til they die.
Probably more likely to get you punched in the face than massing a huge win streak ;)
If you like and can do the chicken into 5 stone, remember in the corner go into tengu out of flipper punch reset (cr.fierce) then throw a short, then your roundhouse juggle. Depending on the character it stops the stun scale and lets you get your 5 free roundhouses on Q. Then mock them for missing the parry.
Oro may be old but he's got a few tricks ;D (ex fireball unblockable, stupid jab/flipper resets, instant air/landing chickens/kara overhead)
Does PS2 version of 3S have unblockables?
??? ??? ???
Someone don't like unblockables by the sound of it.
Put it this way.
None of the top-top tier chars make use of unblockables. Therefore they only buff the weaker chars. Therefore they are good.
Not to mention it's the standard.
Urien
Are you trying to prove my point?
Sweet, looking forward to busting out my ps2 only unblockable SA2 with chun.
Here's another question to show how little I know about the PS2 port: as I understand it, there was only a JP release, is there an english version as well?
Sorry, only just got round to soft modding my PS2, in the process of looking for downloads and not wanting to play with training options I can't read :D

I thought this collection version is pretty much the Dreamcast port, frames slightly out, no unblockables etc?
I don't get why you wouldn't like unblockables to be honest, and you can parry out of them if you're up to it so they aren't *true* unblockables.
Nope its the port that everyone uses for tournaments
The ps2 version is a bit faster than arcade and that's about it for the differences
I read that apparently Gouki f+mp is throwable on PS2 version and Yang ex.chops do less stun?
Not complaining btw, this is great news for a Necro player, haha.

FUCK YEAH THROWABLE F+MP OMGOMGOMGOMG
Thats fucking awesome I am so fucking happy seriously
this isn't sarcasm this pure fucking ecstasy:DDDD
fuck akumaaaa
Yeah i've read about Yang doing less stun in a thread on srk. They decided after testing it against arcade that there was no noticeable difference in stun. I don't get how being able to throw akuma's f.mp is any different to arcade. Probably people just stuffing up their meaty timing because of the speed difference.
Edit: Link http://www.shoryuken.com/archive/index.php/t-159157.html
No.
Throws in arcade version, including Gigas and Karakusa whiff through the chop, from (i think) the first frame.
Hmmm thats really weird. I think I have been thrown out of the startup of f.mp before. Maybe its throw invincible ???
Fuck Yang is pretty fun. More fun than Alex anyway.

Elena tutorial. Pretty cool i reckon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0FZOpmwqIc
Youtube version
Hahahaha that's the one Roshi is using to troll SRK :D
To be honest if you want to learn Elena just look for the games played with her by KO in the shends channel and moreso the Kuroda Elena games also on youtube (mainly because these two play her really simple, though that's Kuroda's style with everyone except Gouki/Ibuki). I quit that tutorial when he said something about buffering specials at the start. Kara-throw and anti-throw mixups ftw.

I think kuroda is just good at defence/turtling/parrying and like someone said earlier once you can parry, every character is usable to come extent
and what was up with that tutorial didnt mention kara throw at all

Kuroda/Nitto/MOV qualify for SBO 3s.
The team is Ken/Yun/Chun in that order.
Somebody's serious about winning it again.
Ken?! Bah, will not be hoping he wins it this year... Especially with that team/those players. ???
Edit: it's the same YCK team that won in 2006, Kuroda taking Spellmasters Ken spot.
So does anyone have a custom colour 3rd strike?
like the marvel ones but 3rd strike?
Wow, that was fast/weird... we actually get to see this qualifier.

How to register on NicoVideo to view their vids:
http://moemania.org/internet-story/how-to-register-a-user-on-nicovideojp/
You can use redirectors:
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/video/niconico/ (add the video name at the end, eg that video is http://d.hatena.ne.jp/video/niconico/sm11461816)
or
http://mmcafe.com/nico.html
OR you can sign up, it's probably easier to just change language to german/spanish and sign up- It's pretty easy to figure out.
Sweet. Thanks guys. I came across these Nico Vids on SRK and it's not always apparent how to view them.
My reply to a article on fans input on balance changes to 3SO.
I think keep it as it is. The games survived fine for 10 years without a single change. The game was already balanced after it's two previous games.
As far as tiers go this isn't Street Fighter 4 and I think a lot of Street Fighter 4 players are going to get a shock when they play it. Skilled 3S players totally annihilate scrubs whether playing a high or low tier character.
We don't need to make this game newbie friendly. As everyone knows the game is 10 years old. They should feel privileged to play a now classic fighting game in it's authentic state. Rather than watering the gameplay/controls down to cater for people who don't care about the game enough to put the hard yards in.

The article Simon is referring to is this one: http://iplaywinner.com/news/2010/7/30/3rd-strike-online-feedback-series-mr-jared.html
Personally, I think the article has a point... He's not asking for huge, sweeping changes ala HD Remix, and he's not asking for philosophical alterations like allowing Gief to do easy mode walking 720's or anything like that... Just a few tweaks to stamina, damage output, meter lengths etc. to compress the tiers.
My opinion is fairly invalidated by the fact that I'm rubbish at this game, but surely having 8-2 match ups in a game can't be a good thing.
It is also invalidated because zangief is not in 3s ;D

LOL - I meant in HD Remix :P
Oh ok then lol, I'll let your English off. Probably my way of reading it though lol.
I really hope that they take the time to listen to people that actually play the game rather than those who have an opinion on it- I don't really think there should be an open forum for suggesting balance changes at all in 3S, there is a large base of players who have been playing it solidly since 2nd Impact and they should asked directly. There are a lot of non balance suggestions coming out of the SRK community which have some real merit though.
The worst matchups in 3S are actually really hard ones to address, commonly suggested ideas won't actually do that much to bridge those matchup problems in particular (eg, Chun/Oro)
Lenny's list of balance changes for Third strike:
Oro's standing close strong should be unblockable and parry proof and should explode chun li's verjayjay.
That is all.
they should make it if Q manages a 4th taunt in a round, your opponent automatically loses all their life.
I guess as far as damage goes. 12 could maybe deal a little bit more damage and that would make him a lot more viable.
Giving 12 more damage is really running a fine line between his current state and making him stupidly good.
A very minor boost, and perhaps a better s. hk is all he needs to move into the middle of the cast.
But I don't really think any changes should be made, especially not by request from anyone in the community.
The only players worth asking in my opinion are MOV and Kuroda, but I'd expect Kuroda would say lol l2p
Yeah tbh there will be far more complaints if anything is changed than if nothing is imo.

Apparently Game Versus in Japan is currently organising same character 5v5 tournament, so hopefully we see at least one team for every character... and some videos. Pretty crazy idea imo.

Hey Moose can you keep this thread updated with any vids of this tourney? I think this is an amazing idea as it will showcase not only the matchups but more importantly the individuals styles!
I probably will because I really am that bored.
Game versus tend to be good at putting out videos but I don't think we'll see the whole tournament, especially considering how potentially large this tournament could be.
I can't find a date for the event anywhere though ???
Yay Oro team!!!!!
Def wouldn't mind seeing some of that. Am finally able to use rocks now!! Woop woop!!!
Man itd suck if they came up against a chun team hahahaha.

Graphic enhancements for SF3 3s Online Edition, no rebalancing
Posted by Catalyst on April 2, 2011 at 2:45 p.m.
Yoshinori Ono is at the Ultimate Gaming Championship in Italy and he briefly took the stage to answer fan questions and talk a little Street Fighter. Here's an embed of the video.
For those of you who want the quick and dirty version, here are some footnotes.
• Ono said that Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition will not be rebalanced, but the game will offer graphic enhancements and really harness the online element. Back in March, Capcom's Christian Svensson said that this game will cause Third Strike fans to wet themselves, so it sounds like we're still missing some big details here. An announcement about the game is expected this month at Captivate, and the embargo for information will be lifted on April 12.
;D

They should make Gil playable so that I can change my forum name to GILL_BILL
I support the only making Gill playable for GILL_BILL and especially not Mason bill.
I really can't see what they would announce that would make people go crazy. I mean they've already confirmed some sort of visual change. What else could it be? Find out in two days I guess.
I bet you it's 'Online is really really awesome, like MvC3 awesome'.
Or 'You can spectate in the lobby, jizz yyo selfff!!!'.
Its prob just smoothed out sprites like MVC2 on 360/PS3
