I'm sure a few of us like the odd brew, so here's a thread to discuss some highlights and also beers to avoid.

Weissbier from Bavaria. One of my favourites. Get it at some Pak'n'saves.

Fairly basic English Ale, very easy to drink but nothing spectacular. Brewed by the same dudes that do Old Speckled Hen. Available at New World.

Pirate Beer
--------------
8.5% ABV beer imported from Holland. That's about the only upside, the after taste is like varnish and I literally had to force myself to finish it. Took me about 2 hours. Find it at foodtown http://www.foodtown.co.nz/Shop/ProductDetails?Stockcode=910414&name=pirate-beer-xstrong-85-single .

also if im feeling fitnessy and want the low carbs , go for the amstel in the clear bottle with the red circle on the front
Amstel premium i think it is , full alchol strength , low carbs , much nicer than the brown bottle amstel thats for sure and tastes pretty fuckn good

No longer exists :'( they're only available in 5%, 8% and 10% now.

Perhaps I should have had two ratings, one for taste and one for value (so that export gets a more reasonable score :P)
Not really one to buy many fancy beers, I mostly drink becks, or steinlager if they're 20 buck for 15.

For the cheap beer I'm all about the Double Brown over anything else, maybe Bavaria for the 500ml 5%ers.

For cheap a 1.25L bottle of Ngahere Gold is the go to drink. They're around 7 bucks irl at Harrington's (Not sure if Harrington's is anywhere else since it's a Canterbury Brewery). The label says 7.2% but legend has it that it's larger than that. Tis deceiving and many have fallen prey to this shit ;D

Its red and its beer. Thick bottle too!
I support the coopers. Even if it is australian. Its also slightly stronger than regular beer. Strong enough that bars that stock it arent allowed to sell it in jugs.
THere's no such thing as a bad beer. Oh wait actually any beer that's under 4% alc. And even 4% alc makes me more sad then before i started drinking.

Saw David at sounds in the sun yesterday. I was drinking deezals,woodstock,whiskey,cody's,mavericks,Tui,speights, and probably something i'm forgetting. Was soooo fucking wasted. Makin a porno on the field hahaha.

Heres some beers to try while the weather is good.
Budweiser 5%
Sweet, cherry kinda taste. Must be cold. Drink slow and not too many because of how sweet this shit is. Its borderline sickening after 3 or more. Not something to get wasted on.
Monteiths Summer Ale 5%
My all time favourite beer. Sugar spice and everything nice. Literally. Taste sweet, honey and abit of spice. Refreshing especially after a long day doing whatever. Not a beer to get drunk on. Drink it ice cold!
Tuborg - 4.5%
Great beer - brewed locally nowadays, but it still holds a close spot in my heart - very easy to drink, quite hoppy - also affordable and tasty - The official Party Beer of JackedFM
La Trappe Dubbel (http://"http://www.beerstore.co.nz/detail.lasso?BeerID=1818") - 7%
Amazing beer - great aroma, slightly sweet taste, very good on a summer day - slightly expensive, but you get what you pay for

Can find it around selected New World and Countdown stores for around $8-10. Nice soothing hops ale with a nice malt as well. Plus its brewed in New Zealand ;)

Little Creatures Pale Ale is aite...
Yebisu is top tier beer of the year
After trying Epic's Pale Ale (as mentioned above by Stu), despite the silly name, it's a very good beer. Nice and hoppy. Keen to try an Armageddon.
Just now drinking a Coopers Best Extra Stout. Very good example of the type, and a fucken gigantic bottle too. Great aftertaste leaving me wanting more. 6.3% abv.
Stu located a source of Yebisu but we haven't taken the plunge yet.
On lesser note, NZ Pure gets a barely passing grade from me. It's like a less drinkable Steinlager Pure.
Heineken gets a fail.

Tsing tao. Nice, chinese lager. Light, crisp and slightly sweet. Really nice ice cold goes well at the dinner table or the poker table.
