Title: Want something tested in MVC3? Tell the L-Man what you need to know homey!
Post by: Lennysaurus on January 26, 2011, 01:58:05 PM
Monaco NZ have presented the opportunity for 4 NZism members to go to their office in Albany and playtest the latest preview build of MVC3.

Before you ask, the 4 people that are going have already been confirmed, so no you can't come.

But, here is your chance to ask us to test specific stuffwhile we are there.

Some guidelines, we are only there for 3 hours, so make sure that what you are asking us to test is managable.  Also, this is the preview build, not the retail, so what we figure out may not in fact be in the final product.  We will be heading there next Thursday, so make sure you have stuff here you want us to try in on Wednesday at the latest.

Ask away people!

Damn you lucky cunts. I was thinking of some Akuma specifics but I'll easily be able to check them out when I get the game. Who are the four people anyway? You, Bill, Alan and ROROABC?

Would been cool if there was a contest for this but meh nvm!

Can you test out how Zero and Wesker feel in overall combos etc etc!

@Mason: I dont think the build will have Akuma. I would bet money on it probably being the CES build.

The tagging order seems strange eg point character combos into next character but drops down to the second position does this mean they are next to come in during another combo or after point character dies

Eg
Before combo                      after combo

Magneto                              Storm
storm                                   Magneto
Iron man                              Iron man

hope that question makes sense

There pretty much was, the winners were the people who are most likely to create content :)

If people are interested in getting invited to special things like this, they need to make it worth giving them the spots!

Also, I played Zero in TvC and intend to play him in MvC3 so I'll definitely be giving him a writeup.

I guess there was a question in there, but yeah we'll fiddle around with the tagging to see how things are set up. Of course, as a pre-final version, who knows if it'll change for the gold master release...

Yeah definitely. Make sure you guys have a good play and just enjoy the lucky opportunity imo. Don't waste too much time testing shit if you don't want to.

Nah, not me.  I will be playing at some stage but I am not the part of the 4.  Hope you all enjoy the code.  Apparently it is a newer build so i've yet to play it.  Hopefully its the one thats been shown around US recently with most of the casts.  You can thank me later for setting this up :P.

Can someone test out and tell me their thoughts on both Mags and Wesker?

Also, how do the button layout feel in comparison to both mvc2 and tvc. Cheers.

Good point bringing up the button layout Stu - can you see if the layout is configurable in this build ?

Also I'm not sure whether it's already been proven yet, but does Wesker's assist (where he shoots at their feet) hit low ? If you can test this I will give you 100 internet hugs

What I would want to know - seeing as this will be my first MvC or any vs game that I'm gonna play - is if you could find out what character(s) would have an easy learning curve and suit someone like me that's new to the game.

Cheers.

+1 on testing out Mags please. Also I'd like to know useful command grabs are with Haggar if he's in the build you guys are testing out. If not, I'm fine with any other grappler. I'm just really curious if I can actually land a grab in this game  :D

Nah, don't like the look of him at all.

Richard I'll be going straight for Doom as I played him a LOT in MvC2 in my Blackheart, Sent, Doom team. I'll be going straight for the big guys...Thor, Doom, Dormammu, Hulk etc.

I've actually been playing Doom again in MvC2 this week and getting my airdash combos etc down.

Ill be looking at Storm/Trish/Amaterasu/Skrull/Tron. Although if Alan's going to go hard on Trish ill try out some other chars.

I doubt the button layout will be configurable. If this is anything like the other pre-launch builds, we will probably be using the TVC-esque default scheme. Buttons will be fully configurable when the game drops, and there is a preset configuration that is more like MVC2. Alan and I had a conversation about this yesterday, and i raped the internet of all available information to come to this conclusion.

It has been confirmed that Weskers assist hits low. Keits and Ultradavid confirmed they were setting up unblockables with it at CES.

If its like the older builds then no the button layouts are not configurable for the demos and a word of warning, it may even be stuffed up.  If it is on the 360, the default layout is for the 360 pad and if the demo is running on a joystick then you will have a rather "messy" setup since the buttons won't match.  If they are running it on the PS3, when the game first boots up a config screen will pop up before loading the game prompting you to choose either Arcade Joystick or Control pad "controls" so at least the configuration will match this way.

And yea. Ill be looking into assists hardout.

Also guys, we have a partial movelist available on the official website now, so we dont have to fuck around learning commands.

I'll also be trishing. As for Dormammu, I pretty much know what it's going to be like just from the vids I've watched... hard to use because you get rushed down and destroyed. He seems like a char that will take quite some time to get used to playing as, since he's a somewhat non-conventional keepaway zoner. Probably hard to get much more than that from a 3 hr preview playtest, but maybe someone will...

Oh, and since we'll invariably be using TE sticks, it's not exactly hard to rewire them to whatever config the game needs. Would take about 5 mins.

Someone test Joe please. Specifically ground combo into launcher, air combo, air Joe, into Mach speed launcher into air Joe. Easier and less random than tvc? Also how are his buffs? Slow looks godlike, how is his uppercut? And voomerang assists?

I dont think we have the option of changing it in a preview build. Pretty sure we get the default TVC scheme.

Remember buttons are FULLY customisable when the game drops, so go with whatever feels best for you when you get your copy.

Yeah know that I think of it from an mvc2/sf4 perspective I might prefer to have a layout that goes:

B C Assist1
A D Assist 2

B+C would work for all dashes and supers and it would be more of being used to tri jumping and dashing into shorts. I do the thumb plink method for rom infinite (though I can't do it really well) and lk, lp, mp is bnb for akuma in sf4 so that shouldn't feel weird.

I think the layout that Capcom were announcing was

A C Assist1
B D Assist 2

Which would be even weirder for old mvc2 players because they won't be using B to start their combos like they would more often in mvc2.

TVC layout is going to be superior imo, even if only for XFC and things. If you look over the movelist you'll see it's pretty much designed for the TVC layout too.
Title: Re: Want something tested in MVC3? Tell the L-Man what you need to know homey!
Post by: geneterror on January 29, 2011, 10:09:27 AM
Is TVC:

A    B    C
X    1    2

X being exchange/launcher.

Yep
Title: Re: Want something tested in MVC3? Tell the L-Man what you need to know homey!
Post by: stereomonkey on January 29, 2011, 11:43:47 AM
Nope

T V C:
A B C
X - T

X - Partner/tag.
T - Taunt

I would most likely chang the layout to as what mason had described.  Just because hitting mk for an assist doesn't feel too natural for me.

EDIT: Actually, if the move list dictates on how we have to play then I guess I would have to suffer and learn that layout. :(

How do you do x-factor again? If it's all 4 and not as lenient as SF4 inputs then maybe default layout will be better.
Title: Re: Want something tested in MVC3? Tell the L-Man what you need to know homey!
Post by: LN on January 29, 2011, 01:23:56 PM
All four.

Which I consider infinitely easier to press LK+LP+MP+HP than LP+LK+MP+MK. But maybe your hands are square.
Title: Re: Want something tested in MVC3? Tell the L-Man what you need to know homey!
Post by: massi4h on January 29, 2011, 05:17:14 PM
Yeah well I could do that with all fingers except pinky, or maybe just index+middle doing 2 each. I'll have to try it out and try out what combos I need it for etc. If I have to hyper, xfc, hyper then even using both hands for the xfc should work. Or else since I have an 8 button TE and it's most likely not coming to the arcade I could be a macro noob and use one of the last 2 buttons for x factor with my pinky.

did anyone see how the online match making works? does it search by location like ssf4? because i imagine lag would be a big factor, if you get one spike you might lose a team mate.
