How'd you do in that tournament bro?
I wanna see some Japan games bro.
Hahaha, that was a good one Marc.
Hahaha shot Marc - although I'm not sure who this "amazing" Abel player is that you talk about :P
I think I remember seeing videos of that Dutch Abel player back in the early SF4 days... Haven't seen anything lately, but from what I remember he was definitely a good player
Looking forward to the next one!
Fuck all that video makes me want to do is film and edit a documentary.
FUCK YOU FOR WASTING MY TALENTS TVNZ. FUCK YOU.
Can't wait for the El Fuerte segments lol.
When are you back in NZ Marc or are you already?

This.
How'd you do in that tournament bro?
I wanna see some Japan games bro.
I did okay. It was a 100 man tourney. I fought my way out of pools placing 2nd. Then faced Doom the Ryu player who placed 4th, we had a really close match but he took it. bet some other dudes in losers and got peaced out by Holland's best Bison. Holland has ALOT of Bison players.
I did worse in the Uk Winner Stays On tourney. Was pretty tired after a long day sightseeing with Nora and Maya. Didn't make it out of pools but had a really strong pool of 7, lots of close calls but only won 2 or so matches not counting casuals. Ryan Hart's T Hawk is fun to watch. :) Cool to hear some of his evo war stories, battery ran out so only got a an interview.
To be honest Japan was a 3 day stop over and getting hold of anyone was a mission. Talked to Paul from the UK who I met randomly at Big Box and Bull410, a Japanese guy who runs Final Round Japan with Scott Popular. He's the only man I know who played Capcom Fighting Allstars!!! Comp was either free for me for people in the day time generally but at night the beasts come out. Not heaps of players since Super comes out soon and it was just after SBO. Got schooled hard by an Akuma, Gief and triple A ranked Sagat. Also played a 3S monster. The Japan section should be up in a couple of months. But yeah high level Japanese play is defintely another level all together.

Faced one ok Fuerte in an Taito station, gave me my first battle points ; (Way more addictive in the arcade) Might have some on film have to check.
Back in NZ :) Felt my first 5 point welcome home quake last night.

Yeah man he's awesome. He lands Abels U2 pretty much every time. I've got an interview with him on the Holland section. He ended up facing an incredible "I don't scare" Fei Long in the finals.
Trailer is almost done. Should be up in a few days. 8)
ok, updated 1st post with a trailer:

Super sweet trailer Marc. Looks like you were able to keep your gaming fix while on holiday :D
Wholly crap that's a cool trailer bro. Wtf were you doing at the end lol?
Awesome stuff (as usual)! I found the dialogue is a little hard to hear over the music though.
Nice bro, don't forget that there are many guys like you all over the world.
GEORGE W(for wax) BUSH
That looks mint!! ;D
Shot Marc, got some Eventhubs fame going on nice man.

for people who havn't seen it.
Curse you Marc Barnes for being so damned awesome!!!
Was this on eventhubs too?
fark shot Mark brada!!!
Gangs mane.
What NZ shit is gonna be in there you reckon. And one fo those comments had a good point with trailers coming out but never actually seeing the fulll thing lol.
And shittty. I can't comment on it even though i'm logged in to SRK and everything. Did they disable the comments or something? Will try again tomorrow, a nigga need to have his say goddamnit.
Part 1 is almost edited. I just have to screw around with title graphics and stuff. I'm try to edit old school select screen and world map graphics from different games and it's a bit of bitch.
Part 1 is Hamburg and it's a pretty small scene but I kind of want to show that a scene can be just a few guys that get together and play and that it all has to start from somewhere. Hope it doesn't start off too slowly. ;)
It's not till part 2 where I start talking to ssome champs and stuff. I think their are enough of those videos around anyway. I try and give everyone equal airtime since it's not just the champs that build scenes it the regular players too. Each scene is really my focus rather than who is the best.
Thanks for the comments guys. I hope you enjoy part one. It'll be up in a couple of weeks once Berlin is about half done. Really looking forward to Holland, England and Japan too.
Really stoked about SRK. I hope people stick with it even though Europes full of awesome players no one has ever heard of.
As for New Zealand I was going to film a little own tiny CHCH scene and maybe next nats or whatever and give it the full 15 mins then. Or send me all the footage you have lol and I can put something together to cap off the season ;) Might interview Lenny, Alan and next time I'm in Auckland. HAVE to feature Yifan's it's a pretty awesome arcade. Best non Japanese arcade I've ever experienced. I was just going to maybe touch on our scene breifly at the start of episodes that have a bit of spare time as well. Also thinking of Doing some "Bonus Stage" videos of cool stuff I got up to in each country (Octoberfest in Munich, the guys talking about drugs in Holland, Akihabara shopping etc)
Sounds great. And yeah if you want an interview that'd be cool.
from the pictures and videos ive seen on the net , we are really lucky to have yiffans .
such a great arcade compared to most others the world round
I still reserve the right to bitch about its shitty setups.
Hey all :)
Here's Episode 1 of 3 Green Bars: World Warriors Street Fighter Travel Log.
This Episode was filmed in Hamburg in August on my trusty crusty little digital camera and covers Hamburg's Street Fighter/fighting game Community. There are some links for German players or tourists visiting that may want to get into some offline casuals and take part in strong German tourney scene. Hopefully this inspires players to start their own small scenes or to go out and get involved in their community, travel to nearby tournaments or casuals, or even hold their own :)
Part 2 should be up next week (Hopefully) and it covers Berlin, I chat to Mr Broken Germany's number 1 Marvel vs Capcom 2 player, Pedram Germany's top 3rd Strike player as well as Berlin Calling a french Super SF4 player living in Berlin how gives some insight into the European scene as a whole.
Enjoy :)
watching now. OOSH
Too good. The transitions and effects are great :)
Great stuff Marc. Really feeling the XBL Keys, and how you spliced in things like character select screens etc as transitions. I like how as it progresses, you add more and more of your own culture and outlook, which really helps the audience relate to you as a person, and by association, your subject matter. Honestly though I think the biggest strength this thing has is you as an interviewer. You're getting the thoughts of your interviewees across as well as showing who they are personally. It's really well done.
Front page of SRK!!
Good shit man
Loved it, good stuff man.
Eagerly awaiting the next!
Yeah awesome work Marc. That was a good watch.
Cheers Guys, Really appreciate it ;D
Thanks for the indepth crit Bill means alot coming from a professional such as yourself. :)
Berlin just needs cleaned up and re-rendered since the external hard drive died on me. Brand new 1TB drive I got overseas. >:(
Part should be even better. Less interviews since the guys were all pretty wasted they'd all been drinking and smoking. They were taking hits from the bong that I had to edit out lol. But they hold it together really nicely on film though. You can hardly tell ;)
.
Hey Guys here's part 2 episode 2 of 3 Green Bars: World Warriors Street Fighter Travel Log:
This weeks episode explores Berlin's fighting game scene. I speak with Mr Broken, Germany's MvC2 Champ, Pedram, a Swedish player living in Berlin who is a top 3rd Strike player and Berlin Calling, a French player living in Berlin. We discuss Berlin's love of old school games (even International Karate Plus!) and discuss the European scene in General. Also Justin Wong Guest stars in an interview conducted by tsunami (Germany's best CvS2 player) and Mr Broken from Stunfest in France.
Stay tuned after the credits for Bonus Stage ;)
Thanks for all the questions and comments. Next Week: Dutchnoobz 2 tournament in Holland!
Cheers
CptMunta
saw this on iplaywinner haha really wanna watch but my nets capped D:
Keep it up Marc! :D
Sweet stuff Marc. Really enjoying watching your series. I saw on EH after your first one someone asked you to come to I think Peru lol. You should be like, pay me bitch and I'll come.
fark munta, stop making the rest of us look bad haha
mad props ;D :D
Yeah I've been getting lots of crazy invites all over the place. Noones paying for flights though :D they should read the description :)
here's part 3 of 3 Green Bars here's the Blurb:
This is episode 3 of 3 Green Bars a Travel log looking at different Fighting game scenes around the world.
In this Episode I head to Amsterdam. Luckily my trip coincides with a Dutch SSF4 Tournament: Dutchnoobz 2.
GaRreTT meets me at the train station and we get a ride with the founding fathers of Dutchnoobz and discuss the history of fighting games in Holland. At the tournament I speak with several Dutch players, Ferdi top Dutch SSF4 player. with Thompson from Germany, Jinxz from Custom Joystick company Shadaloo and several other competitors.
Enjoy! :)
Next episode: is the Winner Stays On Ranking Battles in London.
Thanks for all the comments, favorites and subscriptions, much appreciated.
The more I watch this doco series, the more I realise how great a project it is. As far as I know, noone has done anything like this before (and it's entirely possible they couldn't!), really great to have something which shows each region and how similar they all are.
Bigs up as always Marc :)

Thanks man, :)
That's exactly it! :) There may be some differences but the fighting game comeback has had the same big impact all over the world it seems.
My first comment on eventhubs was someone entirely missing the point. ::)
Still too awesome bro.
Whoa i just watched this on eventhubs man. Really great stuff. Can't wait till next episode. I wanna hear those asian guys sound like poms haha.
That mouth to mouth part was hella funny.
Cool to hear you getting invites to other places too. Good underground scene dwelling.
ediy: Wow, just watched episodes 2 then 1, just to be a backwards kung. Really good stuff man. Crack up part was that guy talking about putting the knives on and the other guy wondering wtf that meant haha. And that's pretty cool how you met up with these guys and had casuals with them and shit. They seem like cool cats. Heaps of beer orientated in there which is something our scene is lacking. I told you guys, if you wanna be serious players you gotta skull beewahs and bourbinos or else you'll never level up.
Loving it Marc! Those guys in Holland were awesome. Pot Power :P
Damn if only you had some NZ shit to show ay. That woulda been our chance.

I wish I could have come up for the Xmas damager. I would have covered that. When I come up for work and ranbats is on I'll definitely cover it. If all all else fails I'll do a nz scene next year for nationals. I only have chch footage ATM so I don't won't to just focus on our wee scene. It'll happen and I've got tons of subscribers now so people won't miss it.
Cheers for the comments and favs guys :) got an email from Haunts today gonna meet up with him when I'm in the U.S! Stoked!
Watched the first two episodes this morning. Really cool. I thought the part about Mrs Munta and Mini Munta was pretty funny lol.
Also again really cool to see the stage selects. Did you remember that these stages took place in these countries or did you have to research that? Eg the Neo Geo Pockett stage was pretty obscure.

Aww bro. Actually none of the stage selects are straight rips so far. The stages are in those countries but I had to edit in the city names which is a huge mission. Cvs2 was by far the hardest since the flame shoots behind the letters and the flaming background. If you look closely you can see the mask where the tones don't quite match up. Also the sound needed editing I had to take out the announcer saying kinderdyk and find the cvs2 soundtrack for the background music and capture the game audio without music. Phew!
I tryed to make the stage select screens as obscure as possible and luckly it worked out that way. Next episode is sf1 for England but the last stage has to be sf2 world warrior for japan. :)

I've been really really lucky. But I owe ALOT to the guys in each scene. They really made it easy for me. Everywhere except Japan, it was really easy to get meet ups happening. I only really got to speak to Bull in Japan but he really has alot of cool stuff about to say about the console scene in japan, Final Round Japan and Gods Garden. Probably the only video interview with someone that had hands on with CAPCOM FIGHTING ALLSTARS!!!
this is awesome man. top shit
Here's episode 4 people ;D :
Here's the Blurb:
Hi Guys this is episode 4 of 3 Green Bars.
A series looking at different fighting game communities from around the world.
This Week: London, at Winner Stays On. A weekly Ranking Battle tournament.
I interview Ryan Hart about Super SF4 AE and the UK Fighting Game community, Anil a programmer for Capcom UK, Pedram and Kaz about their 3rd Strike podcast and their thoughts on 3rd Strike Online Edition and a whole bunch of UK Street Fighter players.
Sorry about all the jump cuts. Alot of people being interviewed at once and again sorry if you didn't make it in due to battery power and time constraints.
Best place for information on the UK fighting game scene is Neoempire and it's forums:
www.neoempire.com
You can also find Pedrams podcasts Here:
http://neoempire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9493
http://neoempire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9284
Hopefully this inspires so of you guys to go to these events, post on your local forums or start a scene of your own.
Thanks again to the London Community, Just wish I had enough battery to capture so of the conversation when we all when out for eats and of course Ryan's epic Dhalsim forward dash impression. Was scarily accurate ;)
NEXT WEEK THIS SERIES FINAL: TOKYO JAPAN! ;D
Lots of great interviews in that one... but why is there 3 mins of blankness at the end? :O
Quote from: LN on December 13, 2010, 08:30:42 AM

Cheers man. Think the export settings were a bit jacked this time and it caught the black I use in the timeline to make sure I don't go over 15 mins and that made the 3 mins of blank. Nice way to find out I can if I want to though :)
YouTube really screws with the sound mix. The exported copy, in the programe copy and compressed copy sound fine but it all seems to get compressed down and the background noise gets louder it seems.
Could just be though hearing these guys say their piece over and over it's easy for me to make out. Nora can make out everything ok on my iPod. Maybe I should tell people to watch with hEadphones if their speakers are cutting it.
Yeah, after the interview in the car I was thinking of suggesting subtitling some of the harder to understand bits a while back, not quite sure why that slipped my mind...
I'm sure you can grab something at an event next year Munta, no doubt we'll be having a few :p Really like the interview with Ryan Hart. Picadilly circus was amazing as a kid but god, it doesn't have shit on basically all of Japan. :o
Yeah, Subtitles might have to be the way to do it without decent equipment :( It sucks though because alot of these guys speak excellent english and it's a shame to have to subtitle it just because of shitty gear and background noise. It reminds me when they had to subtitle New Zealanders because of their accent on The Amazing Race. That was just stupid.
But yeah, I'm not getting any gear anytime soon and I'm not going to start taking donations. Not that I'm against what Gootecks and all those other american docos are doing. I'm already lucky enough to be going to these countries. Plenty of more deserving charities out there than a dude on holiday playing street fighter and asking a few questions.

Bro if you can't do the equivalent of "using only footage from one camera, panning around to see what someone is holding behind them" (see enemy of the state) in audio then you just aren't trying hard enough!
Another awesome episode Marc! Ryan Hart interview was sweet.

to hit the magical "enhance" button.

I think it's probably too late now that I'm quarter of the way through editing the last part. Cheers for the offer though :) If the raw footage from the 2nd series is ass I might send it to you to have a look at. Do you use premire? If so any general tips?
No i use Pro Tools. I work at a recording studio so i'm used to manipulating audio on a daily basis.
Pro Tools is actually also the DAW of choice for film/tv audio because of it's tight integration with Avid Media Composer etc.
(Avid makes the Pro Tools app too)

Hey Everyone,
This is the final jumbo sized episode in this series of 3 Green Bars. This episode I'm in Tokyo Japan on a quick 3 day stopover. It was post SBO and the middle of the week so I was having trouble getting in contact with the english speaking community there.
I was lucky enough to speak with Paul from the UK who is now living in Tokyo and we discuss how the stigma of be a hardcore gamer has changed and retro gaming."
"I talk to Bull410 the host of Final Round Japan.
A ranbat series which he runs with Scott Popular, which has top players like Tokido and Mago entering. We talk about FRJ, God's Garden, SBO, Super SF4 being on consoles, Marvel 3 and CAPCOM FIGHTING ALLSTARS!
I also visit Tokyo's most famous arcade hotspots.
Thanks for all the comments, Likes, subscriptions and Favs.
Next series will feature Cost Rica and around the San Fransisco area and will be out first half of 2011
Thanks for watching!

Here's an early episode 1 of series 2, I'll release it publicly in the next day or so:
Hi CptMunta here,
This is Episode 1 in Series 2 of my Fighting Game travel log.
This episode covers the Costa Rican Fighting Game community. I attend a Super Street Fighter 4 tournament in San Jose. It took place at the end of January 2011.
I chat to pbrkyo the current Costa Rican Champ, faiyez local poverty fighting game advocate, crpyz a KOF fan who used to own an arcade, and many other local players.
You can learn more about the Costa Rican fighting game community by visiting the forums here:

Next episode features San Fransisco and the Starbase Arcade scene. I chat to Haunts from iplaywinner, Bob owner operator of Starbase arcade, Worf Joestar and many other players from the area.
Thanks for watching :)
Hook I'll probably send you the Seth clips via megaupload. I think the sound is too jacked as you can tell in the Steve interview. Hooray for annotations :)

Thanks man glad you dig it :) as for the lighting can't be helped really given the gear that I use, no lighting guy or posh camera. Next episode has even worse lighting with most of it being filmed at night and in a dark arcade. But there will plenty of game footage and cutaways to look at.
