Yeah I saw mention of that too, kinda hard to know whether to take it seriously though. Hopefully it's a pleasant surprise this time!

Quote-Traditional 3v3 team based system

-No more clashing or critical counter.

-New system: Drive Cancel; a special cancel system similar to Roman Cancel or FADC with it's own meter. HyperDrive cancel is a super version of it in which for a limited time allows for infinite DriveCancels.

-EX attacks: Just as it sounds. Each EX attack has an added ability like invincibility or juggle, etc. Yes, there are even EX supers which work essentially like SDMs.

-Returning characters will have more complete movelists

-Mai, King, Yuri, Alternate version of Ash confirmed.


also, billy lewis could be in aka, the blue guy from double dragon. he had the flash kick looking power geyser in rage of the dragons.

GAME SYSTEM

GUARD CRUSH
Guard meter under the lifebar, your guard drops when it becomes empty. However at the current time it seems to recover much faster than it's lost, so there haven't been that many guard crushes seen. On top of that it looks like the guard crush window is very tight so it's very hard to take advantage of it. Wondering if drive attacks will have a bigger effect on the guard meter.

GUARD CANCEL
Revived from older games. Costs 1 power stock. Does damage, but not possible to KO with it.

STUN
This has also returned. However unlike XI there's no visible stun meter so it's not possible to know when it's going to happen.

POWER GAUGES
Return of multiple power stocks. You get one additional stock per team member that you lose (much like earlier games). Feels like they charge up faster than in previous games.

EX SPECIAL MOVES/DESPERATION MOVES
Use 1 stock to do powered up specials or DMs. The powering up depends on the move - might be more damage, invincibility, etc.
EX specials have a blue shadow sort of effect to them while EX DMs are red (versus yellow for regular DMs)

DRIVE GAUGE
Green gauge above the power gauge. The length increases by 50% every time you lose a character (so that the gauge is twice as long when you're down to your last character). Fills up at about the same rate as the power gauge, so pretty quickly. However, whiffing special moves will not fill the drive gauge (although it still fills the power gauge).

DRIVE CANCEL
Can be used as soon as the drive gauge passes 50%, which means that on your last character it can be used up to four times.
You can cancel special moves as well as command moves that couldn't normally be cancelled into other special moves and DMs.

HYPERDRIVE MODE
Press BC when the drive gauge is maxed out to activate. Your character will have a sort of hazy afterglow and will be able to do as many drive cancels as he wants. The gauge doesn't fall faster if you do a cancel like in '02. However if you take any damage the mode ends.

That background looks amazing though! All I want is for this to actually play like a KOF which is where the last one failed. This looks like it plays like KOF2002 and that's what I want, gameplay like 2002 but with graphics that look like they were made this century ;D

I know an online community for this is to much to ask for :'( I'm sure I can con Richard, Lenny and Bill into playing this at my place though and I know Steve will be keen 8)

I dunno, this doesn't look anywhere near as exciting as 2k2 was. It does look more KoF than XII did though.

As for online, going on precedent, it won't be the people that will be the problem, it'll be the netcode!

@ 3:34 - robert/yuri/kyo vs kim/kensou/iori - this one is kinda boring.
@ 8:21 - k'/king/beni vs terry/ryo/kyo - k' looks awesome as always :D you get to see some custom combo-y ish from kyo round the 11:00 mark too
@ 12:51 - robert/yuri/kyo vs athena/elizabeth/ash - elizabeth looks alot better than she was in XII
@ 17:05 - kula/duo/raiden vs terry/ryo/kyo - kula doesnt do much here, just gets kicked in the face by terry and then duo sweeps.
@ 21:17 - kim/takuma/iori vs athena/mature/elizabeth - mature doesnt look too different as far as gameplay goes. takuma looks BEAST... well for one round anyway. seems super easy for elizabeth to connect her super
@ 25:26 - clark/k'/beni vs duo/kula/raiden - at about 29:00 beni zaps himself with ligthning. anyone know what it does? angry scar type of move?

I played it today at club Sega and did okay vs some random guy.

I only had one game and thought it played awesome. Kinda reminds me a bit os CVS2 for some reason. Will be going back tomorrow to play at Club Sega akihabara. They had it at Taito HEY too but the comp and line was crazy.

The palletes for your characters are pretty creative and the game moves fast and looks mint as! Backgrounds also look great. It's lost all of 12's shittiness and plays bananas good so far.

Gonna try again tomorrow. My team was Kim, Ryo and Takuma.

The game just received a new update patch from what I've read.  Glitches and infinities gone.  So far no reports of any other changes but could be too early to say.  Apparently the update was only implemented a few days ago.

Getting the hang of this a bit better.

For some reason im having real trouble with Duo Lon's rekkas. The timing is quite strange. Should be the easiest thing in the world but i think i must be spastic mashing or something.

In other news, the combo/EX/drive cancel system is really easy to get into. Managed to land a beast 80% combo with Andy vs the CPU today. And they seem really practical as well. Im gonna try some sweet hyper drive cancels tonight when i head back down there. From the vids ive watched that shit leads to awesome loops/MASSIVE damage.

The dropkick is pretty fucked though. And raiden can juggle a power bomb off of it, as well as punch -> dropkick -> punch -> dropkick.

All the grapplers can do cool stuff. Clark did his autocombo into some kind of air throw on me. I can see im going to be investing A LOT of time into this game.

Fuck. Cant land that cool 80% combo with Andy again. And my KOF basics have gone to shit. Cody was giving me the smash at yifans today.

Fuck this game is way more fun than SF4.

Some of the alternate colours are awesome. (Microsoft K' is so hideous its awesome) If you hit start at the palette select screen, some characters have like 10 extra colours.

You pretty much just do another special move during a special move, and it hits.

Eg. Andy can combo C -> f.A -> hcf+k -> qcf+p. The hcf+k -> qcf+p is a drive cancel, but you dont have to do anything special. Also, you CANT drive cancel on block.

Hyper drive cancels are a bit more like max mode/FADC. when you activate EX mode or whatever its called in a combo, your character does a forward dash, which you can cancel with a move Again, heres an Andy example.

C -> f.A -> (3 buttons to activate EX mode)-> C -> f.A ->hcf+k -> qcf+p xx qcb hcf+k xx qcb hcf + AC

The hyper drive cancel to go into EX mode allows Andy to combo a second C -> f.A and also gives him access to his qcb hcf + AC neomax super, which he can cancel his normal super into, much like a kofxi dream cancel.

Actually, drive cancels can basically be summed up as dream cancels, but for special moves.

Anyways Bill, I was reading that you've got unlimited amout of Drive Cancels for a period of time while the Hyper Drive meter is full but is that the only time you can cancel? Sorry if that's a KOF noob question, never really played any of the KOFs much except for KOF98.... But I'm total scrub at that and am keen to get an ass whooping at that on GGPO sometime if anyone is keen  ;D

Yea unlimited when youre in EX mode or whatever its called. Outside of EX mode each drive cancel costs half your drive meter.

Is common when you sees Cody s play all KOF series . I usually spend 2-3 credit just to win hi on 98UM . He's timing of pressing button n command 98%(including reaction) . I guess for those who play with him in SF4is way different than KOF13. Lol cant wait to slaughter me today .  ::)

Raiden is fucking ridiculous.

Been watching a few SBO/Tougeki vids. And whenever there is a match where only one player has raiden, raiden always goes last, and ALWAYS reverse OCV's the other team. The only time i have actually seen raiden lose a match in a decent video is in a raiden mirror.

Random shoulder charge/combo into shoulder charge -> dropkick -> s.a -> dropkick ->EX grab/Neomax = 90% damage for only 2 STANDARD meters. Theres no drive cancel in that shit.

Hes the kind of character i want to learn and then NEVER EVER USE except to cheese out someone i dislike.

Its easy. Like, dumb easy.

Sort of like landing Ryu j.mp -> ultra in SF4. ITS THAT EASY. You dont even need to time anything. You score one random hit, and then you get 90% damage off of it. Its broken as all hell.

Even without meter, just getting dropkick -> jab -> dropkick is 50% damage.

Look at the last combo in this video.



And you can land the dropkick off of just about anything raiden does. Its insane.

All the characters in the game have a combo that does that much damage. The reason im so hype about raidens is BECUASE its so easy to land.

Some of the tournaments for this game use a really really interesting format.

They use a points based ratio system.

Say youre playing in a "6 point" tournament, like the last Arcade Infinity tournament was. This means that your team can only be worth 6 points total. Each character has a certain number of points based on their tier.

5 Points: Raiden, K'
4 Points: Kyo, Elizabeth, Kula, Andy, Robert
3 Points: Iori, Shen, Takuma, Yuri
2 Points: Kim, Benimaru,
1 Point: Mai, Leona, Terry, Chin, Mature, Ash, King
0 Points: Joe, Athena, Ralf, Ryo, Maxima, Hwa Jai, Vice, Daimon, Duo Lon, Clark, Kensou

So if I wanted a 6 point team, i could use Andy/Ash/Terry. (4+1+1=6) But i wouldnt be allowed to use Raiden/K'/Kyo (5+5+4 =14)

This is a really interesting tournament format. We used something similar for a low tier marvel tourney we had not too long ago.

As far as the tiers go, I haven't played the game enough to comment on them. I know Raiden is top. And im sure K' probably is once people get a bit better. There doesnt really seem to be much difference between the tiers at this point IMO. Besides Raiden because hes so braindead.

but AFAIK none of the Raiden players made it to the final of Tougeki? So i guess its not that bad.

Some advices for match up against Raiden I gathered from the web:
1. Rush him down in the first 10 seconds (the time he needs to charge for it to be effective), at least you should make sure your HP is higher then him after the first 10s.
Since its only scary when he's holding both kicks, he can't roll/quick recovery, so setup jumpins more with knockdowns say c.HK and j.CD and do crossup/non-crossup mixups, which is ridiculously hard to see in this game. You can even make it so you don't even know if its a crossup yourself, then hit confirm with light attacks -> combos.

2. After 10s, play defensive run away style,  wait for dp or any knockdown, then do the crossup mixup again. Remember never ever do fireball or backstep(if the other guy has the reaction). If your HP is lower than him, then good luck.

3. Character with better matchup against him, because of easy crossup: K, Kyo, Yuri, Iori, etc

4. use Raiden ;D

But i also just read that after the patch, Raidens uber level 4 drop kick (there are 4 levels of charge. the longer you charge, the better it is, like a TAP) needs to be charged for 25 seconds. TWENTY FIVE SECONDS.

Luckily for us at Yifans, we dont have this patch. And im not sure how long you need to charge for a level 4 dropkick currently.

Anywho, after a few games today I have decided that my team (which is very different from the one I was originally going to play) will be Takuma, Raiden, and Mature.

Takmua just seemed solid and easy for me to play.  I really enjoyed zoning and being annoying with him.  I managed to get one pretty sweet combo with him that I was stoked with.

Raiden... well it's Raiden :)  Only managed to get the double dropkick once, and it's actually nott as OP as I originally thought.  To use it you are basically cutting off your roll, counter roll, counter attack, and HD cancel whatsamahijit for like a fifth of the round.  Although hitting one of them is so fucking awesome lol.

Mature is just nice and easy to play.  Has a sweet rekka style gameplay, and was pretty similar to what I remember of her in KOF2k2.  Was doing jump feirce, standing feirce, rekk x3, cancel into super for pretty sweet damage.

One thing I have to get used to is how different the footsies are in this, well pretty much they almost don't exist lol.  Also, meter management seem really interesting in this game given the shitload of different ways you can use it.

So far I'd have to say I really enjoyed it, and at only $1-00 per game its not that bad of a sting to the pocket imo.

Practice mode is now available when you "hold Light Punch and press start"
The technician guy at yifans has changed it to 10 minutes instead of 5mins (Real time, not game time) so I highly recommend people to take the advantage of this before he's changing it back.....

In practice mode, you can do pretty much everything you need in order to pick up the game. HOWEVER, The real challenge is....... defeating ALL the players who play on the other side before you can go to practice mode... it doesn't make much sense but sadly that's how it work lol.............

@BILL : Raiden did 2 combos and each of them does 80-85% HP, that's not too bad, is it.......:P & K is god tier because his flame can BBQ all the haters.
@Lenny: footsies still exist in this game. In fact, it's a fundamental element for most fighting games. Just by using Footsies & mind games, we can still win "not so good players" who play the game for ages. And yeah, I love how they have the cancel gauge & super gauge separately, It's a very interesting system and It definitely hold a lot of potential that needs to be unlocked.

BTW, does anyone ACTUALLY feel any delays when you play ?? I've heard a lot of complaint about this so I have already told the technician guy regarding this issue and he said that he's going to switch something around and test the lag out this coming Monday. So If anyone thinks that they can help, please come by and shout him some advices on how the game should be set as I cannot make it due to my exam time. not sure about Cody.

The delay on moves seemed pretty big but not so big when jumping and stuff which makes me think that its just the game not so much the monitors. It really shouldnt have any more lag than the sf4 setup which is a little laggy but doesnt feel as slow as kofxiii. Putting it on a little CRT cabinet well make it less laggy but I think its better for the game to be on the lcd so that people take notcie and hopefully play it.

I can do Andy's loop 100% from the left side, but have trouble getting the super to come out at the end.

I can get the super out 100% from the right side, but have trouble doing the loop. FML.

Overall though, im pretty happy with how my Andy is progressing combo-wise

K's loop im having a bit of trouble with. I cant seem to cancel his uppercut into his qcb+k properly.

Shen is pretty cool. I think ill rock him as my 3rd for the time being. Although Terry is also pretty cool. Maybe i should just drop K' and stop being a tier whore.

Well..... you should just go to practice mode and do combos if that's what you want and don't have to challenge me....next time you challenge me, I will just let you win so that you can show me those "Awesome combos" against a dummy.
Another advise, you don't go to better players such as Daigo and says: "Play me and I will show you my awesome combos" you will be lucky if you can land a 2 hit combo on him.....

And no, I've never love winning against boring players...... I'd rather lose to good player than win boring games, Fact #1, I was the only one who keep challenging Cody even though the level different in KOF is pretty large, Fact #2, I lost many games on purposes so that the not so good players can get to practice, I was smashing some KOF players yesterday but after 5 win I saw no point in keep winning so I let them win and went to play 3rd strike. So if you wanna make some statement about me, please make so they are correct.

If you were talking about my 1st day playing KOF then yes, I didn't want to lose simply because I was just under the impression of my fundamental skill could beat all the players that had more advantages in that game. All I can say is: They know how to play KOF, but they don't know how to play fighting games.

I'm not a pro gamer nor a talent player, but seeing there's just too many worse players than me limit their potential by making up excuses make me sad and disappointed.

What i did In Yifan Couple weeks ago ...i get close to the Boss( 1st and last boss ) distant like the video link above. I cancel Light punch or LIGHT Kick just to let the boss auto guard . The boss will always attack you after u did anything stupid ( just to stop u doing super or any punishing ). Basically the boss always defense 1st then attack .

Then u block and then crouching high kick the knock down opponent  . ( the same combo again and again then congratulation u beat the Boss LOL)

Sumarise :

Crouching or standing lk ( hold arcade stick down to block any attack ) then crouching  HK ) . This is it Benwork way . So Enjoy LOL.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
