Post by: CrazyMobius on July 12, 2010, 08:03:47 AM
Anyone out there know how hard this would be?

There are many barriers, and almost no reason to do it.

From a technical point of view, it's fairly straight forward - but from a costs point of view, it's quite expensive - you need multiple cameras, screen capturing cards, a computer beefy enough to handle all the feeds in real time AND some fairly expensive software to produce it all. On top of that, you need an internet tube thick enough to transport it to a Ustream/Stickam/Justin.tv server.

There are some good articles on SRK about it though, and personally, I think it'd be kinda cool to try band some shit together just to try it out - I know there is a lot of talent in our community and I'm sure there's plenty of generous people willing to donate gear for the day to give it a go.

I'd rather the effort went into a good post tourney DVD to be honest. Most of the people that care about our nationals will be AT them haha.

Im mucking around with something atm.  I have finally Got a recording device to do 720x576 at 30 FPS, the only problem is that I can only get this resolution when the console is hooked up to an SD setup e.g: through a yellow/red/white or a component chord.  Which basically fucks us for nats  cause we'll be using PC Monitors.

I have a device that can convert a vga signal into an RCA one, but it fucks out at any res that isnt 800 x 600@60HZ, 800 x 600@75HZ, 1024 x 768@60HZ, or 1280 x 1024@HZ.

Any one got any ideas?

I reckon we should just upload the last couple of games. The rest will not be worth it lol.

Ideally I want to do a dvd with top 8 games from each game

Plus I will scout the bracket for the top players facing off and get  them as well.

Then you bastards buy it and we can start getting our own hardware in this bitch

I honestly think it is a waste of time and money at the moment

the australian evo apac stream which had daigo didnt even get that many viewers (most i saw was 300)
to be realistic i think 20 viewers would be about the max the rest of our players would be at most events/nationals

There is also the argument that streaming it (which would result with the video being saved online at the time of streaming) would provide a quicker access to the match vids for people. Say, if i wanted to go home and study a few matches before a final or something, the fact that it wouldve been streamed would mean i could do that with very little hassle. We tend to be pretty slack with uploading shit atm, and since so few of us actually have/bring cameras to events, I can see some benefits to streaming.

And tbh, it is fairly inexpensive to stream shit. Hell, there is even a free Ustream app for iphone that you can use to stream stuff. Would be great if not for the shitty shitty iphone camera.

Cost of streaming isnt really an issue I think the set up is the biggest cost like you said so few have cameras already

I also think getting people to attend events is more important than a stream

Totally agree.

I dont think a stream would be a bad idea though. I think it would be worthwhile to just go ghetto, throw up a camera, hook it up to a stream and hope for the best. Just a sort of, 'no effort' attempt at a stream would be worthwhile for the few that would watch, and the few that might want to utilise the videos in the short term. However, at this point we certainly shouldnt have it as anything close to a priority.

Uploading 7 hours of decent quality video in NZ is nothing to sneeze at, cost wise.

Streaming in New Zealand would be pretty expensive tbh bill.  Download is cheap enough, but upload here is expensive as fuck.

TBH our events are run bare bones.  Ranbats lately haven't been breaking even in some cases, so after nats we need to look at that problem as well, let alone scrounging together cash for a stream.

In other news, I am in the process of buying an HD capture card.  Should have it sometime next week at which point I will be rigorously testing it ready for our 3v3.
