So I had this idea while I was at work today.
We could do another 3v3 tourney. But with a neat twist. We could have everyone who wants to enter the tourney throw their name in a hat, and the teams get pulled out of the hat randomly!
So each person would get assigned to a random team. We would keep the same rules, e.g.: only one character per team etc, so therefore if a team ends up having 2 people in a team that main the same character, they would have to decide which person will end up using thier secondary.
The Lenny has spoken and requires your thoughts on the matter! I command you to speak damnit plebs!!!
Not enough chances for collusion and stacking imo.
Come on, who wants to play with people that won't practically guarantee them the win?
LOL.
that's a great idea. Lets do it tomorrow.

Yeah i never say the word 'great' that's why. I just tried it and it sounds wrong as coming from me lol. NOW let's do it tomorrow, fuck just so keen to play more games. NO ONLINE AHHHH!!! I'm going crazy. Must get better before nats.
sounds itneresting, I also had teh same thought as well but I was lazy to bring it up^^
anyways whatever it is we will play, though I think the rule where you play every single player until the whole team loses should change.
Just because its random teams it doesn't mean one man can not OCV the other team and it this situation all you need is one great player and he can carry you to the top... its a TEAM tournament, your WHOLE team needs to work for the win and not just rely on that particular team mate...
2 cents :)

Mind if I rephrase?
Basically you are saying you have Team 1 = Players A, B and C and Team 2 = Players X, Y and Z.
A vs X, A wins
B vs Y, Y wins,
C vs Z is the decider, and if player C won, then Team 1 would win?
With this we could probably run round robin instead of double elim because there will be a max of 3 games per team instead of 5 games using Mikido (sp?) format. Top team from each round robin could go into the finals.
^ Is that really a valid format for a 3v3 tournament?
Whoever is going third on the team in that situation, may or may not be needed. Your team could of already lost before you even had the chance to play your game lol.
Which makes choosing who would go third on the team kind of awkward =\
We could make it round robin and all three play every game, and you get 1 point for each win an individual has at the end of a set.
Then at the end whomever has the most points wins.
yeh, something like that, you guys can go into teh detail :) but you get my point^^
swtt
You wanna try and yomi the order of the other teams and get people their most favourable matchup. Doesn't make chosing the 3rd awkward, but it's definitely less hype. I think the main idea is that the better players will be more intent on watching their team mates and sharing tips. I think as long as we seed our good players, this way of running it is a good idea.
I agree that Team tourneys should be geared towards the whole team winning rather than just letting one good player carry the others through. I also think the idea of changing characters should be reviewed or at least tried.
character change can be revised by giving double blind if needed... that is if you guys want both winner and losers allowed to change characters.
Else just stick with current rule, no biggy.
Oh yeah you'd definitely let the third players have their games so they can maybe make it 2-1 instead of 2-0.
Allowing character changes means you can't yomi a bad match up to come into your favour which kind of takes out some of hype. There are pro's and con's for this I guess. It's also more work for the people organising the tournament because then they have to keep an eye on team order and blind character select (minor point I admit but more work = less inclination to do it).
Can you come up with a compelling argument to allow character changes?
Do it NSB 15 styles?
Each player registers 2 characters and can switch to whichever one during the course of the tournament.
thanks bill ;D
Thats what Rory posted dave. The problem is that if one team wins the first 2 games, then the 3rd game doesnt matter. I like the idea of giving points for wins in a round robin scenario, but then maybe have the top 4 playoff in a standard single elim bracket?
point system and round robin, everyone gets to play everyone, top 4 or 8 team with the hiest points forms a new bracket and play off from there? something like that.

In your opinion. Single characters alot more appealing to me, as it means people actually have to attempt their bad matches.
I thought you usually go into a tournament to win with your best character, not to lose so we all can have fun in being ashamed at our performance with secondary characters while letting down the rest of our team mates.
If it was a single person event, by all means mix it up as it would be only yourself dealing with the consequences. But in a team battle, bring your best character on the day and support the rest of your team. All for one and one for all. :)
my gut feeling is
team round robin will just end up with more stacked teams

how is it stacked? if we are picking from a hat to randomize the team?
But if you're going to let me choose, then of course I'll team up with my closer friends which I feel comfortable to play with.
soz, i was thinkin more of the line of a self form team but playing round robin style.
let me correct myself,
The format I am thinking of is Random team, round robin and point system.
Top 8 team or Top 4 Team forms a new bracket and repeat the current system or whatever you guys think is more suitable for it.
Thats exactly what i suggested.

Nah man! It's the opposite! The main reason I don't like the ability to change your character is that many people will counter pick you. If...they know who you are going to pick. And then you come face to face not just with your bad matchups with your worst matchups and you are right, I do hate that. So I guess fixed characters is the only way we should ever do it.
Or is it?
fixed char or double blind.
simple.
Double Blind is better for singles IMO. But for teams, it should be fixed char. If youre worried about counter picking, then you need to have a teammate that counter counter picks. That coupled with team order add a minor strategic element to team based gameplay, which makes the competition all the more interesting.

Which is more or less removed with random teams
Not necessarily. Theres nothing stopping you, after finding out your teammates, rounding out your character selection so that you have a balanced team of chars that compliment each other. It requires people to gravitate from their mains though, which might not be as advantageous in the long run. But theres nothing stopping you saying 'ok, we have a bunch of close range chars who get reamed by dhalsim. Ill play a character less likely to be zoned out to even out that weakness' If indeed you are confident enough to do so.
And team order comes into play regardless.
What about just pick a char and make the system so same char wont go to same team?
Since its random team anyway so i guess its more about participation and fun than trying to win so match-up doesn't matter much.
anyways i support the idea of random team tourny be it n vs n
x = players / 3
x slots
pull player from player list
fill random slot
if same char already in slot, repeat above step
if slot is full, take it out
How about....fuck the team tourny and we do singles?
Its a discussion about team tourneys weazzy. There is bound to be more single tourneys coming up after the Nats and also the ranbats have been doing them for a long time every fortnight.
Lol yeah true, but you have to go all the ranbats g.

Lol, you really don't. The points don't mean alot, it's more about getting the lag free + tournament experience.

Tru , true.
We should do a money match day. Where you can only play if money is on the line. Have every match on the big screen!
That would be fun I think.
lets do it next time we have ranbats :)
how about we just play marvel. team dynamics out the wazoo ;D

if x < numbers of same char there's bond to be a collusion!
bad news for top tier whores
