Title: How do you hold your stick?
Post by: Elixir on July 12, 2009, 05:52:06 AM
First of all... shut up.

Secondly, I'm curious due to a discussion about holding joysticks that recently came up (again) on the shmups forum. I usually hold mine to the left of the stick, with the stick between my pinky and ring (haha, yeah right) finger.

Today I tried the wine glass style. It's actually really useful, so maybe I should start using it from now on. Though I keep defaulting to holding it to the left, now between my middle and ring finger.

Looks like you hold it the same way i do. I tried wineglass for a while, with similar results. (Defaulting back etc) I think if you were used to wineglass, you would end up with more control on the whole, but since im not, i prefer the 'stick between the ring' thing.

I imagine the extra control is minimal though, and it probably isnt worth it to abandon your muscle memory and re-train it from scratch.

I used to hold it like that too. But when I made the jump to Japanese sticks I now hold it between my thumb parallel to my knuckles just under the start of my index finger. Then the rest of my thumb rests on the stick.

Hard to explain.
