Yeah, so the hosting server was moved this morning, and NZism didn't survive the transition.
I'm slowly bringing things back, and have updated the forum to a new version as well, which has some bells & whistles. Many things will be broken in the mean time, just bear with it - I'll get things sorted!
The forum should be fairly usable in the interim, although the backup is from last night, so there are a couple of posts missing. Also all avatars and attachments are gone... so that means all the images you've attached to posts as well. Sorry!

I will see what I can do, but things are a bit busy atm and I imagine it will take a while. This new forum version has completely different theme files.
Cool, no biggy but yeah the whole Green and white thing really grew on me, it felt NZ themed too.

I knew something was fishy yesterday morning when I tried the site and got a 404...
atleast we got backups for most of the stuff, this skin looks clean and its a good change i think, maybe Alan can add some spice to it!!!

Not on my ps3 browser, but yeah on other pc's.
I liked the colourscheme of the old skin, but i personally wouldve liked to see it a touch darker maybe? Possibly even MORE greener? I dont mind this one though to be fair. Once we get some non-generic icons in there (If indeed thats possible) and a pretty banner (Im still a firm believer that mike's NZism Logo needs to be green, and would like to see it used on the site.) The old colour scheme was great though maybe what Bill said could bring it up a notch. Can we get a banner made too please RICHARD guys.

I think he is talking about the word colour and not the fern. Well, I like the idea of the fern being a dark green but that is me.
The new emoticons remind me of msn ones. They just seem really tacky.

Yea Stu had it right. I mean the font colour. Its fine using the SF4 font as an influence, but the orange just makes it look like we blatantly ripped it off. Plus the site was green anyway. Also, the more i look at this new layout, the more i like it. It just needs to be green (like a 'forest' green. something with a deeper shade than the last one.) as opposed to that blue-grey imo.
The fern with the characters is fucking awesome. I wouldn't change that at all. I just think the font, and the colour of it need some tweaks.
And yes. Them's the smileys we know and love.
I actually enjoy this better too, now that I'm used to it... it feels much more open than the last design (because it doesn't have a fixed width layout)
I think getting some green like Bill suggested in here would be the business.
I've been tinkering with some greenage so a basic fallback should be up in the next day or so...
Personally I think a dark green isn't so good, but I can have a fiddle.

This theme is great, just needs the old colour scheme.
Look at the layout as is. Its one particular blue-grey, but in various different shades. I reckon it would work nice with a green, but you wouldnt want one too light otherwise shit would look all washed-out. Thats what im getting at. I could be wrong though. Cant know until you see it. Im sure something grassy would work fine.

cant say i agree. dont get me wrong, its pretty awesome but its just way too busy, and the shapes kinda ll merge so theres no real standout unless you really scrutinise that shit.
only thing I don't really like with the new forum is the text is so damn big! otherwise its pretty cool :D im not sure how I change font size on the gf's mac either..

But back on topic, the font sizes on computers needing to be "smaller" is a myth. If you've worked with websites and ever wonder why the base font size is 16px, it's because it's the most comfortable size to actually read. Get a book and put it at reading distance in front of you while you sit at your computer... The text on the screen SHOULD be sized similarly to the text in the book - if it isn't, I can guarantee that it'll be smaller... Bump the text size up a bit (Rorooze, if you're using Safari, it's Command + to zoom in and Command - to zoom out) People get too caught up with having as much text as possible on the screen so you "don't need to scroll"... it's such an old school mentality. With resolutions as great as they are in this day and age, and scroll wheel mice available, there's no real reason to have text this small. Of course designing for mobile devices is a whole different story lol.

there is nothing wrong with teh current text size, if you make it any smaller it will be very unconfortable to read... well we can always crtl mouse wheel to zoom in but as electric says, if you have worked with website designs you will understand.

if the text is the main focus, then theres no point in having a fern that complicated.
If you make the text bigger, it distracts from the complexity, but doesnt take away any of the wow factor.

Me having a 30 second Jam in MSP, and replacing the text with the standard one, and increasing the size.

It would obviously need to be done BETTER. ie. not in 30s in MSP with a fucking eraser tool >_>, with a font that isnt ugly etc. edit: And with a fucking apostrophe in "New Zealand's"
But the point im getting at is that in the first one, your eye is drawn to the fern, which is great, because it looks cool, but it lacks in the 'advertising the site' area.
The second one, although it looks crude as all hell, (Mike's one still looks HEAPS better) draws the eye to the text. So while it retains a lot of what makes the old logo great, it kind of gets the point across a bit better. So youre thinking, 'thats a logo for nzism', rather than 'look at that flash logo. oh its for nzism.'
I hate to dredge up a topic thats like 2 years old, but i also think cammy/bison need to be dropped for some non-capcom fighters. Much as i like them, the community is broadening its interest outside of SF4 now, so i think the logo should reflect that somewhat. This is also the reason i went with the generic text instead of the original. If the complexity of the logo is still an issue, maybe drop cammy completely and replace bison and chun or maybe guile?
This is maybe what i would do, but keep in mind this is coming from someone who DOESNT design logo's for a living, like im sure a lot of you probably do. And im sure there are heaps of you out there that could do it HEAPS better justice than me.
Additionally Alan im liking it. Its a little army maybe but its all good. I actually like that its slightly different to the colour in the logo. Maybe not QUITE there, but definitely feeling more NZism.
I'm going to straight up say what I think of Mike's logo:
1) It's awesome for large scale print media.
2) It is completely unworkable for any web presence.
For an elaboration on 2, It's far too complex to be able to be scaled down to any usable degree. Any useful logo must be either insanely scalable or be wider than it is tall; The fern is square and cannot be stretched for reasons relating to its complexity.
I have in the past been asked to provide an NZism banner for advertising use, and it's just not possible to use the fern logo. An alternative logo is being devised.

God. MSP sucks. These just keep getting worse. If i had photoshop, i would rotate the fern a few degrees just so that the image was longer and narrower. As well as do a myriad of other things to make it not hideous. If that were the case, would it be getting towards being more workable? Or still too complex?
Well, where can you fit an image that size? Certainly not at the top of the page, and certainly not in any banner ad. Try shrink it by 50% and see how little detail there is left, and it's STILL way too big to really be usable.
Ahh yea. I see what youre getting at now. Needs some tweaking but for the most part i think something similar could prove useable. Im SURE there must be a way to keep a decent amount of Detail. Especially since ive just downscaled it in MSP, which fucks the quality over at the best of times, since it doesn't keep the shape uniform.

Unfortunately images are displayed pixel for pixel. Increasing the pixel density effectively just makes the image bigger, so no, you can't make it look higher quality and appear smaller.
