Title: Mashmasters goodtimes
Post by: CptMunta on February 16, 2010, 09:49:59 AM
Yahee for the mashmasters tourney goodtimes. Cheers for coming out. In the end it was a small affair but still alot of fun. Double elimination takes aaages!

Got photos too. For Aucklanders it could have been an average night at GIGA, Yifan's or at someones house. But little ol' CHCH it was pretty damn rad. Really took me back to the Wizards Free Play type of atmosphere. Goodtimes!

High points of the evening:

Scott vs Nick in the Losers final. Ryu vs Gouken
Sweep countered by Ryu's wakeup ultra for the win?!!! WTF!!!

Aragon vs Ari in the Mashmasters final. Hella footises with no blocking!

Ari, first time street fighter on Tatsunoko vs Capcom:
"This is the most ADD game I've ever played!"

CVS2, Tekken DR and Mortal Kombat 2 casuals in 42" HD. Mortal Kombat 2 was a real blast from the past. Jay was stoked to get some Tekken in. Next time maybe we'll get T6 happening for casuals, maybe even PSP to PSP if we have to just for laughs.

I went round to Scott's flat last night to see Quentin, Scott and Jay Playing SF4 all glued to the screen wanting to level up now that they've had more competition. They are also keen to meet up with MJT for some casuals this weekend if we can swing it somehow. Maybe at mine or at Scott's again if they are keen to host.

New CHCH punters. Keep an I out for Super Mashmasters Special special edition. Another tourney to celebrate the release of Super SF4.

Ideas:

2 Tourneys:

Main event,
Everyone chips in 5-7 bucks or so puts it in the pot. Top 3 win cash prizes. I'll also hunt down some more SF related goodies :) Another prize for the Mashmaster.

Two New Challengers Team Tourney,
We make teams, only allowed to select characters new to the SSF4 roster.

Maybe have an online component, exhibition matches. Challenge off against PSN's elite with Mics and tomfoolery.

Location:
My Bro's secret invite only location again. 3 or more setups maybe.
or
Gamestation, could be a launch event even. Open to public, could do some pavement art outside to help promote it. I'll talk to Jade and Shaun at Monaco and see what's up. Might be a good idea to see what's planned for Auckland and SSF4 before going hard out. We'll have a CHCH shindig all the same even if some of make it to a Super tourney in Auckland.

This is all pie in the sky ideas at the moment. Mostly depending on numbers. Good games locals. Let's level up!

Cheers guys that tournament software came in real handy. As for commentating, I got a few vids of the action with me rambling over the action but they came out a bit wonky.

Chatted to the manager of Timezone today about maybe putting on a tourney. Sadly half our click are pad warriors so dunno if it would be worth it. Might be a good idea if something decent is up for grabs. Say credit or Sanwa parts.

if you guys are pad warriors then no point doing it at teh arcades tbh... unless tehre is something very attractive for doing so. Console would be the way to go as you can go stick or pad though you won't have any prizes except forthose you organize.

That night was too cool Marc.

u dah man!

CvS2 and MK2 fatalities were a highlight. My stick came in yesterday so we've got another one to play around with. We needed some TTT. I'll be sure to bring my laptop next time to add some more games to the session.

How about a Super Street Fighter IV  tournament at Gamestation perhaps before or a after the release? And prizes from Monaco (Distributors of Capcom, Sega, Square, THQ games in New Zealand)?

Well talked to Shaun from Monaco and Jade from Gamestation and it's ON! Well pretty much on. Shaun was interested and so was Jade to host it.

I'm going to make up flyers and promo stuff once I get all the details. I'll also do pavement art to help spread the word.

So we got a venue, now all we need is the masses. Gamestation sold 4 SF4 TE sticks so there has to be other punters out there.

Our troop of 10 or so will be keen. Shit just got real. Almost.

Shaun is teh production Manager from Monaco, he was the one who got us the National prizes.

Just a question about what you're doing, is this going to be in CHCH? this tournament thing you are doing.

Hey guys, I'm a long time chch gamer of the timezone colombo scene you might have met me at some stage...I had a wee hiatus from gaming for a while, really cut down my game time when I got a PC and then soon after that my wife had our second child. I have 2 awesome young boys, so I spend a lot of time with my family, but I just started playin again since I got into SFIV recently, Marc flicked me an NZISM business card and here I am. Yo.
About my game: I used to have mad Tekken skills back in the TTT days... I got into Tekken 5, but not as much, and by the time Tekken 6 came around I had a busier schedule so I've only played it a little. I've enjoyed some time as one of chch's best CVS2 players and I'm still keen for a game of that, but atm I'm really trying to denoobify myself with Marc's help in SFIV lol. So yeah, thats my arcade stat sheet. Pleased to meet you all, hope to mash something soon. Got my eye on this stick  (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-zl-49-en-70-3d9n.html)so I can get some prac in at home. Would go for the HORI FS3 but I'm not made of money =)

Edit: Also a big PC gamer. I got a sweet rig and a great laptop for quick lans, plus a gamecube for mashing old classics. My xbox360 grew old and crotchety so I retired it...waiting to replace it with an xbox natal =)

GGs Marc, sorry I couldn't stay for long. Next week should be all good though. Went into uni and there's an xbox 360 set-up up stairs in one of the student common rooms and I think its permanent too. That might be the new meet up place haha

Nice job on setting up that tourney, we gotta get some hype on this. Do some payment art on the carpet in TZ, I'll keep a look out.

Went into that barber opposite dumplings for my haircut and they have a SF2:CE cabinet on free play in there.

@Darthfoxx, Welcome welcome bro. Was that you today? I was the Bison player. Its good to see us getting more players in. Fuck the mayflash bro, get one of these  (http://www.videogamecritic.net/images/systems/mastercontroller.jpg). Be looking forward to playing you more on SF4 and TTT

Yeah bro ggs yesterday, welcome to NZism  :)

You're picking it up SF4 pretty fast though. Surprised you took out Redtie's Bison after Redtie took down Andrew's Blanka. Just have to get the Focus Cancelling trick down and the game will open up for you. Especially since you're maining Ken. Also learning what's not safe at close range now thanks to focus attacks. Alot of us here are in Camp Dad too, myself included, hope your son diggs his new wheels :)
We'll be there next week same time if your keen to get some more games in. Will PM with my cell and keep up you updated in case we have some random meetups/events.

I think that mayflash stick is a good entry level stick and you can always pimp with Sanwa parts like alot of dudes on this forum. Once you get your stick sorted you should get a copy of SF4 for PC or XBox and start rocking online. Either that or wait for Super to come out.

Me and Andrew ended up at Scott's garage of gaming goodness afterwards. Scott's Ryu is really improving. Beat my Ryu just before we left dammit! He's really hungry to level up after the tourney. Andrew's Blanka is full of surprises too. Kind of cool he's maining him now since I struggle with that matchup.

Nice photo  ;D

I heard a about that Barber with a CE machine a while back. Random?! I's got there if they do Afrovers. Heard from MJT from Dunedin He should be up i CHCH now, I might invite him round this arvo or tomorrow to get some games in before Friday. He's keen on learning some Akuma who I'm good at playing against him but shit at playing him. How are you you and Nick with Akuma? He'll be at our next Mashup at Timezone for sure.

That uni setup sounds mean  ;) . It's probably COD MW2 dominated. If we play SF4 at uni spectators would probably say something like:

Scrub 1 "What the fuck is this Dragonball Z bullshit?
Scrub 2 "Oh THAT game, it's called street fighter, they just copied tekken and added magic to  it. See?.. That Goile guy looks just like Paul."

Oh and xpunch beware of my random Lanyard of death (See pic)

Cpt: I think I'll start calling you "cap", its a better nickname than "munta", especially irl...plus "cap" reminds me of Captain America and he owns. You can call me Foxx, all my gamer friends do (and I'm a gamer so all my friends are gamer friends haha).

hahaha bro fadc lanyard of death = 3/10 on the funny scale lol once you read all the stuff that gets typed up on these forums esp by illbill OLEET stereomonkey lenny blackstar wezzy etc.. it becomes a common habbit refering everything to video games and every1 can take a joke here which is cool.

oh and i will be adding you now over xbl so we can get down on sf4 and its good to see another "dad" on here since us dads needa are the best at sf4 hahaha

Xpunch: Dunno if you missed it but in my first post I mentioned that my xbox360 is k.o'd! Some time soon I'll be getting SFIV for pc and a stick, but I reckon I'll be playing you guys mostly at timezone or on your consoles :P

Yeah Feilong was badass in SF Animated and Sakura could pull off some great combos in CvS2, it'll be fun learning a new character I've been playing shotokans for so long lol. I'm still a Ken fan though =)

Foxx,

We can go over some Sakura and Fei basics on Friday if you want. Both can be pretty beastly. Also some of NZism's best rock the PC I hear. Alot of the Yifan's regulars, hard out.

PropaFanda
Hey Andrew welcome aboard  :)

Yeah man it's cool to see all yous online. played Scott and Quentin at his place for some casuals. Took Q through some basics in Training mode. 2 in ones, Super cancelling etc. He really dug it. Learning Scarily quick both of them Q is learning not to flowchart with Ken and Scott's mind games have leveled up. I have to actually "play" play them to beat them now.

Also might show Timezone Columbo some love before Aprils tourney. Was talking to Damon and he was keen having a at Timezone even. An ok idea but with a few down sides:

Needs a decent prize
Only one machine
Controls that randomly freeze up
Has to be pretty much at the end of next month which is pretty soon.
Super Street Fighter IV tournament is coming
Some of our click are pad warriors.
Sorting out Promotion, prizes and posters might be a pain in the arse.

On the plus side:
Might help get more numbers for the Super tourney.
Helps the Arcade scene.
It's a street fighter tournament.

I'll chat to him again on Friday and test the waters. Having a tournament might increase both console and arcade player bases for a while at least before Super comes and owns us all (Unless it turns out worse than SF4 lol ;) )

Just thought I'd mention it. Waddya reckon? Nothing set in stone as yet.

With the CHCH scene growing I think we're gonna need to take another photo with Darth, Scott and Q (and maybe even more other CHCH players) included  ;D ;D

Anyways, sorry Munta but my Akuma is most probably just as shit as yours lol Its great to hear that Q and Scott are leveling up  :) hopefully they drop the pad and pick up the stick lol.
But a tourney at Timezone would be pretty sweet! All the CHCH Tekken players are there and a SF4 tournament could help some of them convert  ;D. Hell I used to play Tekken 5 due to the fact that CVS2 was untouched 85% of the time I would pop in and the SF2 Aniversary edition was never played at all! >:( It'll definitely shut those idiotic tekken kids saying "You only need to mash to win in SF  :-\ :-\". I guess they've never heard of Eddy Gordo....

I think Feilong will have more of a show than Sakura, I like him better, but in both cases I think I'll still try a few characters before I pick an alt. I used  this guide (http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/jul/07/ken-street-fighter-4-character-guide/) for my Ken, and the guides for Feilong (http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/jan/19/fei-long-street-fighter-4-character-guide/) and Sakura (http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/jan/18/sakura-street-fighter-4-character-guide/) really made me see how bad they can be, especially Sakura. I just don't know if I can be bothered buying into a character who is so difficult to play well. Feilong seems ok, he has his bad points but he's still got a few good tricks.
I think I'll try Gouken (http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/jan/19/gouken-street-fighter-4-character-guide/) instead of Sakura, he seems interesting and strong.
Title: Re: Mashmasters goodtimes
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on February 21, 2010, 10:48:53 AM
Of all those 3 characters, i would rate feilong and sakura higher than gouken to be honest. Probably in that order.

Feilong has great speed, great pokes and arguably one of the best FA's in the game, only downside is that he cant combo into his full ultra.

Sak also has good speed, quick normals, and awesome comboability. Great stun potential, and fantastic mixups. She's fundamentally a little weaker, but a lot of her other shit ALMOST makes up for it. She would beast more if she had a crossup (which she is getting in SSF4)

Gouken is a bit different. He has bizarre normals. Not really in a good way. Some nice damage/combos, but very few ways to actually land that shit. However backthrow + ultra is REALLY good, despite the fact that you have about 4 hours to tech the backthrow.

I would lump ken in there between feilong and sakura in my imaginary-opinion-based character strength chart. Which you should take with a grain of salt. There isnt a big gap between fei and sakura. You could say its barely a gap at all. To the point where you could argue against this list, and bring up some valid points. But this is how it sits in my opinion.

Anyway, Kens got cool shit, and he's much easier to use than the other 3, but i rate him lower than fei simply because fei's speed/pokes are that good. If ken was a touch faster, he would be better imo. And if they sort his DP's out in super he is going to rape off peoples faces.

As it stands, in terms of strength, i would personally say fei, ken, sak, gouken in that order. Fun factor is pretty even across the board. Feilong for the speed, sakura for the mixups, gouken for the weirdness, and ken simply because of this youtube video that Euan posted recently.

That vid is pure win. Crack up. I agree with you about Fei/Sak/Gou, basically wanted to try Gou for the wierdness but I think I'll stick with Fei, comboing into his ultra seems pretty ezmode actually, all you nd to do is hit with a FP and ultra fast enough, it's got nice range. Decent block damage with his ultra too.

O_o fp -> ultra? That doesnt sound right. I know you can j.hk -> ultra. Are you talking about j.hp?

And when i say comboing into his ultra i mean like: J.hk -> hp -> flame kick -> FADC -> lk chicken wing -> ultra. Only problem with that being you only get two hits of the ultra, which isnt really worth the effort.

But yea fei is good man. Id love to see more people play him. Id also love to see more Goukens. Good luck with your shit CHCH. Hope to see you all in Auckland for the nats this year.

Watch this vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6ghGn7WJx8) and check out 1:25. Crouching FP into ultra. I know it looks like a late j.FP but if you watch closely, he empty jumps into c.fp into ultra.  :)

Mark if you need a hand with the timezone tourney & the super SF4 one I would be keen to get involved with it to help out. I think its a good idea but yea its soon and it will be busy for promotion and stuff.  :P

Sweet bro, I might take you up on the offer. I'll have to design posters/flyers. Maybe something for the SF4 machine. Then it's just making a date (Late march I reckon) and we should be good to go. I'd have to bring my laptop to sort out brackets. Maybe random seeding, Double Elimination. Might use the results to help seed the Gamestation tournament maybe. Might get some more cards from Fluxcore spread the propaganda!

Aw I didn't notice! Oh Fei, why can't u have something good like that lol.

Lol Crouching MP in Ultra would be godlike. As a general rule Ultras have a really long startup and are hard to combo into from normals. Some characters are lucky to have juggling links into full ultra i.e.

Bison Jumping air to air MP MP Ultra
Rufus Jumping HK air to air Ultra
Also Standing LK Standing HK Ultra
Sagat Forward HK Antiair Ultra

There are plenty of other examples too. But they are some of the most basic commonly used ones.

Bill knows what he's on about. I think most experienced players would agree with him. I only really land Fei's Ultra from a lucky Focus attack, or to punish something. I have more fun with Sakura but Fei is pretty fun too. His FADC chicken wing combos are awesome fun. Yahee trial mode.

Lets cosplay to promote the timezone tourney.

Cosplay I've pagsed Zangief, Mike Haggar alt costume styles.  ;D

It's all good man, what afternoons best suit everyone?

I'm free every afternoon except Thursday and weekends.
Unless we do it from 8pm in the evenings, only then it would be arcade only since we can play at my place afterwards since bubba sleeps. Unless you guys have a free place to play in the evening *cough 42" cough*  ;) Could even be in the weekends in the evenings.

Once we can agree on a time/day I'll rename the Mashup thread. We'll keep it the same time till all of us come to an agreement on a time the that suits everyone.

Might be moving in April to a bigger place so we can play Garage styles ala Scott's pad. Then we can move it to evening weekends. I'll hopefully pimp it out with a big screen by then too.

Haha yeah you should cosplay gief and I'll cosplay that guy drinking on giefs super turbo stage. I'll just follow you around drinking my vodka

Im going to vote for 330ish on Fridays. Its good for me AND we could possibly pull in some more players if a group of us are playing at that time because that's when all the school kids will be in TZ.

Hahahah the 42" will be available for us to use in June thats when I'll be moving back in.

I'll be there around 12:30 this time and those of us who can stay will loiter around town and game till you get there. We'll then move the time the following week.  :)

I have to be home at 6 though so we can play it by ear whether we stay at Timezone or head to someones pad for more games. Bring that glorious laptop of yours and your new pimpin' Stick!

Nick that Gief isn't so flash needs more body hair. lol  ;D

The seeding of other random players & double elimination is going to be long as and cool. It would be good to see us in the seed results fot the gamestation tourney yea man.

What up Tamati yea another poster will be cool man of all of us =)

I'll see yas at timezone on friday guys when ever yas arrive there. I'll be there around normal 12.30 time peace.

Just ordered a HORI Fighting Stick 3 (http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/PS3/PlayStation-3-Arcade-Fighting-Stick/1549741/) for my PC setup. Confirmed with the guy that it does work for PC, should arrive in a couple of weeks- fail shipping but its out of stock so yeah. I'll be all trained up and beasting combos and dash cancels in no time =)

nice that stick is good, hori's a nice brand. I used to have the earlier version for ps2 ages ago, but now I just have my trusty namco stick which is just as good cos I sold the hori one.

Good shit man. Does this mean you're going to end up joining team PS3 for Super SF4?  ;) I think I've played on the 360 equivalent  a few times. Gino and Orochi have them. Surprising good sticks button layout seems weird at first but you adjust pretty quickly.

Propofana's Namco Ps1 stick is power goodness. Geneterror and Lenny have them too. Awesome sticks if you can source one. Keep going for ages.

The flyer for the Timezone tourney I'm working from scratch. I'll add the NZism logo and details to it if that's cool with flux. I'll spread the good word out to the Christchurch fighting game punters. I'm thinking Black photocopy on bright yellow paper. Hard to find decent high res artwork atm. I'll make some A6 flyers and 2 to 4 A3 posters to go in timezone windows. I'll see how Damon feels about it.

Double Elim will take ages on one machine but at least it'll get every match some attention, only one match set to five rounds for each face off (Like Mashmasters). Single elim would suck for newcomers, at least then they get more than one game for entering.

Dunno how much to charge, timezone will want some cash for putting it on free play probably. How did the Hamilton SF4 tournies go down Flux?
Title: Re: Mashmasters goodtimes
Post by: fluxcore on February 23, 2010, 07:05:32 PM
The Hamilton tournies were all free entry organised by TZ, they switched the machine to free play for the duration. In-store credit was the prize, so they didn't really lose anything.

As for time, the best-of-5 round, single game dbl elim tourney with 8 ppl took probably an hour.

As for the logo, yeah go hard if you want. You need the .eps file?

Played tonight on the pc for the first time in training mode with Ken. Won't have my stick for like a few weeks so I figured I can get the timing down for moves just with my keyboard...it's not like I'm a stranger to sticks, but I am a stranger to the wierd timing and underwater feeling of SFIV. I got my fadc down and combo'd a FA > Dash > DP > FADC > Ultra like three times before I decided to quit and have a cuppa victory tea =)

yea all good man if its approved by Damon we would have to put in each for the time of match bracket. Not sure how it went for the previous tournement of cvs2 and tekken 5 though, virtual fighter ? Are you going to illustrate it like the SFIV theme? The selection screen looks really bold and gestural =) I like the yellow back ground of the paper man thats the one with the black any other colours? Its gona be like no other illustration =)

Something random: All the xbox 360 games from the uni set up were stolen. If we got some copies of SF4 we could have a nice place to play.

32 inch LCD + 2 Xboxs = :)

I'll be in Lunchtime tomorrow if anyones

Im stealing some internet. Awesome.

far no good for the owners of the games

Do you have a converter to use for your new stick on the  x-box or just use the controllers? Their pads are rubish for fighting games i find.

I had no idea that there were converters to use your ps3 stick on the xbox. Ima look into that and if it exists, and they are cheap, I might buy one or two. Then I guess we could hire out a copy of SF4 for 360 and have a session at the uni setup

Tz colombo's machine is still sick...it's been 24 hours, Damon (i think thats his name, right Marc? tall guy, brownish skin, short black haircut?) said that they're recalling like 8 of those machines. The good sf4 machines come as two separate machines, one for each player like battleships style, but they were expensive as. The machines they bought were like 1/3 the price of the good machines, but they had faults so they have to send them back to get repaired. Wonder how long they'll be out to it... :-\

I'm guessing if the say the proper cab, it would be the ones in Yifans which are worth 20k each?
so it would be reasonable that they by the chit version, though the risk as you know it.
Why can't they just get a cab with HDMI display and put a freaking xbox/PS3 in. thats like less than 2k....

Change of plan: got this message from Damon:

Hi Marc

Thanks for the comp ideas, they are great
Unfortunately our SF4 is out of order again and has been taken back to our service dept for repair
There are ongoing problems with the video cards and monitors I believe

I hope you can get the message around to everyone who has planned to show up tomorrow

Very sorry

Cheers

Damon

It would probably be cheaper to by two HARPs or SE sticks and replace the wiring and parts if it's just running off PC hardware.  You could just plug them straight into the PCs USB jacks. Though the dodgy modding that skips menu screen and doesn't let you skip fight intros might be the issue. If that's the case then there's no real way of fixing it unless your'e up to modifing code I guess.

I'm pretty sure there are PS3 to 360 converters dunno how good they are though. The only way we could really get anything rocking at uni would be to buy/rent a 360 version of Sf4. Use your mayflash and buy a converter for andrews ps1 stick

We can meet at mine tomorrow if yous are still keen, I'll pm you guys my address :)

I just had a good idea.

Marc, do you have a vga cord to plug a laptop into TV?
If you do, we could hook my laptop upto one of the 32" displays at the uni where the xboxs are setup.
Then we just bring our sticks and were sorted.

I've got all the games we play on it too..... and more!

Capcom
SF4
Vanilla ST
Hyper Fighting
Tekken Tag
Killer Instinct
UMK3
Marvel (if someone downloads the dreamcast iso for it my nets capped)

There's heaps of couches and tables to put our sticks on. The rooms huge!!! Like massive! This idea has potential I think. Plus all the uni shops and shit are in the same building too so everyone can go and get food or we could all go downstairs to the uni bar for a round of beers after.

My laptop speakers aren't so bad either and they go quite loud. The sound won't be the best but it should be about the same quality as the TZ SF4 cabinet

The only problem is.. we might need a remote to switch it to vga mode if it doesnt have an auto-detect feature.

Anyone got an LG remote?

Fuck yeah! Next week maybe. I gotta vga cord not too long though. Also just bought a 32" Samsung a few hours ago so we can run your laptop on it's badassness if you like tomorrow. Woot!

Nope, now you want to move to CHCH  ;)  ;D

Just got the prizes sussed for the Super Tourney at Gamestation:

1st Super Street Fighter IV Backpack for Arcade stick, SSF4 T-Shirt, Ken Figure, C.Viper Figure, I-Phone cover (Of your choice)

2nd SSF4 T-shirt C.Viper Figure, I-Phone cover (Of your choice)

3rd SSF4 T-Shirt I-Phone cover (Of your choice)

7 spot prizes of I Phone covers so no matter the skill level you have something up for grabs. A C. Viper figure and 2 SSF4 T-shirts given away to random pre-orders that pick up their game on the night or participants to the tourney that didn't place or something.

Working out the nitty gritty with spot prizes or what not. Also (non alcoholic) refreshments provided on the night!

You Aucklanders should ride the Air Hyper C. Viper beam to this event  :D

Hey folks

Not sure where to post this info and I didn't want to start a new thread

Got some news on some games...no not anything SFIV

I've had word on a Marvel vs SF that might be a candidate to replace Virtua Fighter 4 if CvS2 can't be fixed
I know it's not the greatest and I can't give a definite date but it's the best we can do for now...Third Strike is unlikely

I've also just managed to secure (fingers crossed) a SFII "The New Challengers' machine for the store (if it's monitor holds up) which I will give away as a prize later in the year...perhaps around spring or a little after
I had a play of it the other day and it seems good but the monitor is old with poor colours
It wont have a new one put in as that would be cost prohibitive and good condition old monitors are hard to come by now

It first needs a clean up and to have a swiper installed so it can be used in the store but, the production dept is busy at the moment so they will get on to it when they can

Don't get too exited just yet though...at least not until it's safely in the store

I also have the two winners prizes for the SF tourney ready to pick up

Ah timezone, endlessly replacing all VS games with marvel vs sf :(

Same thing happened in Hamilton, we had an MvC2 cab and an XvSF cab, now there's just a MvSF :(

I don't mean this as a dig at you, nomad, just it's a shame that that's the game they have lying around - it's by far the least interesting of the VS games.

Yeah no worries

Hopefully CvS2 can be revived and we wont need anything else

GDRom based hardware is harder to maintain than the CP systems

Hi Nomad, Cheers for chiming in.

Super Street Fighter 2 The New Challengers would be a mint prize  :o Even better than a CPS1 SF I reckon. So many awesome boards you could put in there. Super Turbo, AvP, Puzzle Fighter, SF Alpha 2/3 If I'd win the tourney I'd no doubt become a collector.

Also I'm going to be away in Europe then Japan from Late July till 2nd of October. (No time for training lol) So I can help you put the tourney on once I get back or before I go.

Dunno if you'll get many punters playing Super SF2 for anything but novelty's sake sadly. That game is painfully slow. No question that people would compete hard out to win the cab though.  8)

As a general rule of what SF punters favorite games are here's a quick list:

CPS1:
Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting

CPS2:
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (Know as Super Street Fighter 2 X in Japan)

Street Fighter Alpha 2 or 3 (Know as SF Zero 2 or 3 in Japan)

Hyper Street Fighter 2 the Anniversary Edition (This game isn't ideal because of some bugs and issues, but would get played. I think you guys had the Asia version of this cab a wee while back)

CPS3:
Street Fighter 3 Third Strike

There's a great article on Sonic Hurricane as to why:

Thanks for all your efforts man. It's great to have someone on the inside listening to the community and helping build it. Also if you're hunting CPS2 have you tried talking to Kim the Ken player at the tourney? He says he's got old school SF boards and is running them on what sounds like a Super Gun.

Also Jade from Gamestation is CPS1 and CPS2 collector (Even has a CPS2 cab at Gamestation, which has D&D, Super Turbo and Aliens Vs Predator running alot of the time). He's going to Japan to hunt for some more goodies in a couple of weeks. Maybe he could find something there. Apparently there's a few stores in Tokyo with Stacks and stacks of old school boards.
