Hey Andy great tourney today. Wasnt a major with the rules being sorted out on the day end of the day I'm pretty sure everyone was just keen as to get stuck into it. Was quite fair the way it turned out and I was glad there was a losers bracket lol I thought it was all over after the first loss. Thanks for organising this and to the helpers also. Giga is a fairly nice set up. Thanks to my partner in crime Manawakore for team 100 hands  8) also to Skull from team anti-Ryu for some good feedback / pep talks shot brother. Also to Josh - I'll get you next time team SAS.

Haha yeah I know lol, sucks but tourny nerves hit me hard, I think since I barely ever get to play live matches \ have any spectators.

So funny... First match.. team anti ryu vs Howtoplay.. I think the only double stacked team in the tournament? the two best Ryu's in the country LOL!!!!!!! Law of attraction:p
Still.. a freckle and a hair from 3rd place, I'm very pleased with how I played considering apparently tourny nerves effect me pretty hard...
Shot to iMagneto for some amazing OCV's.. we pretty much had the worst order every single game we played except Smoof\Ben bro (And I guess Andy\Hue.. haha) .. just unlucky:p Told you I'm useless against shoto's tho! Haha. Get a headset ASAP mate ;]

Also... shot to Andy for sorting out the relatively hitch free event.
Props to Giga for the host.
Props to people who bought equipment.
Thanks to everyone who helped record the matches.. me and Mike wern't really prepared for recording anything but still had a crack... ran through 3 sets of batteries and didn't even have enough power left to get the final finals.. And we didn't manage to record very many early games, but still, the majority of the top 4 footage is filmed (all be it, horribly shaky.. my arms were tired or i'm just awful at holding a camera lol)
Big ups to every single person who came along to the event, even if you didn't enter, showing your love for the community.
Massive respect to all the usual beasts, good to properly meet all of you this time around.

And of course.. Congratulations Kevin and Cody! You guys were amazing today!
Bad luck to Andy, pausing during ultra against Kevin and missing out on advancing.

Will post more later... I'm pretty tired.

Oh yeah mike msg me your bank account number.

Andy just so you know.. PS3 is not a laggy platform by nature lol.

If your monitor is good, you don't get any input delay. I play on a 24" and can confirm there is zero delay, rule of thumb, bigger the monitors.. more likely that they suffer from lag. It's sometimes to do with post processing effects that certain displays apply.. to enhance the picture and what not. Sometimes it's just a bad model#, which comes with input delay on all settings.. and sometimes it's due to non native resolution being used, but we had problems with 1080p and 720p so that's unlikely.

Problems should be fixed via Xbox360 VGA connection tho yea.. as monitors cannot apply all the fancy stuff through that input.

Coffindrop, I really really want to get a decent match in with you. My loss was legit (ie. not because of laggy bullshit), but fuck, I haven't been that unhappy with how I played since my dismal performance at last years nats.

Not saying i wouldve won necessarily, but that shit was just plain bad.

Ill see you on psn. you bastard

I had fun playing today.  I'm happy with how my Sim is coming along.  I had some doubt at the start, but glad I kept picking him.

Cheers guys.  Looking forward to ranbats!

Skullator,
I know its not just the PS3 fault as I also have a 24 inch LCD and I have not as much lag as I have felt during the tourny. I also understand the reasoning behind the lag and that is why I have said we do it on xbox360 next time as then we won't have to care about this issue.
Title: Re: Giga 2v2 Tournamet feed back/ talks
Post by: Skullator on March 07, 2010, 01:53:53 AM
Cool. Have those monitors ever proven themselves as lag free before? If not,yea probably best to avoid running anything over HDMI at giga on those screens in future.

Post by: zos'la on March 07, 2010, 01:58:54 AM
They are fine with xbox360 as I played SF4 on them before. Just the Ps3 don't work that well with them apparently.
Title: Re: Giga 2v2 Tournamet feed back/ talks
Post by: Lennysaurus on March 07, 2010, 02:13:58 AM
Prob something to do with the HDMI on them, cause the xbox that runs on there is on component and it seems better than the PS3's.

Im sure he is, but bro, I was having the meanest sook after that match. Im not trying to disrespect Coffin. I just played like a turd sandwich on a hot day. Im not saying 'omg i wudve won if i wuz playn bettr', because A) Thats fucking stupid, and B) even if it wasnt fucking stupid, i cant actually predict shit like that. It definitely shouldve at least been a lot closer. Some of those mistakes were facepalm material.

Gah. I need to go to bed. Ive been awake for 22 hours.

Bro tbh, spectators \ tourny nerves happen to alot of ppl.
And your turd sandwhich on a hot day play sounds like me every time after I finish a set with Zosla and his download is re-complete.

And regarding facepalm material.. just blame the monitors imo haha.. Look at the first 2v2 vid up, I whiff a juggle i seriously NEVER EVER EVEN ONLINE WITH 1 BAR CONNECTIONS whiff, and then andy proceeds to punish with.. whiff ultra.
You'll probably find when we play using component\vga video next session it will help

And if it was just bad decision making.. oh well, we all have our off days, definitely sucks if one happens to fall on the day of a tourney tho for sure ;\

Lol hey bill no dramas my friend - I totally feel ya as I know that you have been a far tougher match up than that in the past. I recall the last time we jammed at Hydro's meet up a few months back, your Fuerte was definately much more of a threat beating me fairly convincingly then. You didnt seem to settle into your game play in that particular match up. Maybe that wake up ultra put you off hehe jus kidding. But na I know how ya feel it's a major wtf moment when you know you could have played so much better. For sure my man next time we're online invites on.

GGs guys, tourney was awesome. Shot NZTauranga for teaming up with me. Fuck you Smoof. But yeah everything was good, imo I found far less lag on the xbox we played on in casuals afterwards and I guess I found casuals more fun. But shot Andy for organising it turned out well and Giga for the venue. Good to catch up with Skullator as well, keen to Smash you soon (lol).

Its the chinese equivalent of kiwis saying "aye" at the end of everything.

E.g.: "I dunno aye" or "I dunno la"

Well thats my understanding anyway.  I guess a Maori probably shouldn't really be giving an explanation of chinese colloqualisms.

GG guys. Grats to wearenoobs (pretty sure that was the team name) for winning and to every1 who participated in the torny, was quite an interesting experience for sure. Was good to match more faces to the names (even though I knew most of them) and to talk with every1. Good catching up with you coffindrop man and team 100hands. Also talking with Ill_Bill bout Fuerte and lenny is always fun lol. Team SAS (South Auckland Scrubs) also thanks the organizers and admins of the torny, cheers for that guys.

BTW: we used to use "la" in CS to mean like "Whats up la?"

Hey yall sorry if I raged at anyone yesterday was just in a shitty mood and then the way the tourney ran didn't help  :P

For the most part the tourney was pretty cool. Good shit to Kevin and Cody for being out of practice and still beasting the tournament from losers bracket.

The biggest problem of the day was obviously the lag on the tv's. Although the results may not have changed much on less laggy setups I think the overall quality of play was lower as a result. Laggy setups have been a common problem in almost every tourney that we have ran so far. I personally would like to see some kind of standard put in place for future tourneys whether it be playing on lcd monitors that are proven to be lag free or on CRT tv's. Personally I would prefer CRT's as they are cheap, almost guaranteed to be lag free and most people will have one lying around at home. Thoughts?

Another problem was the format of the tourney. I guess I am part to blame for this because I brang up the problem but only because  either a) people were confused as to what the initial tourney format was or b) the initial format was actually a little messed up as I understood it. The format was then changed to a mikado style format, one set, 3/5 round games. This was not ideal but it was done inorder to prevent anymore confusion. Then somewhere along the way (In the top four???) the format was changed to best of three sets, 2/3 round games. This was pretty iritating to see. The increased amount of sets are fine but changing the amount of rounds per game at any point in the tourney was a pretty bad move.It was much like the decision to let Hue play for Simon in our very first tourney. Sure it may not have changed much in terms of results but It took away the integrity of the event.

Anyway thanks for running the tourney Andy. Although I have problems with the way the tournaments have ended up running at least your actually doing something which is pretty cool.

Thanks Ben, good feed back I'll make sure such things will be treated with more care next time.
A few things I just wanted to point out as many was not my decision.

1: LCD monitors always had a problem but at RVB it wasn't"? it was only teh ones at Giga which didn't like the PS3.

2: The format was changed for Finals as I took advice from Lenny who I believe to have seen more on how tournaments have run compared to myself.
We have about 2 hours left for top 4, by finals we had an hour left. I thought having a longer finals would make things a bit more interesting, the finals were best out of 5 rounds first to 3 rounds and best of 3 games first to 2. I understand what you're stating but as I said I lack knowledge it tournament rules and hence why I have always ask you guys for advice.

So to be clear, I believe our stand console we should use would be the xbox360 and have someone set some standard rules unless other wise stated?

All good Ben, and I agree with you big time on the lag and other issues.

I think in future we should run important matches on PC monitors. 24", Hdmi port, built in speakers (or external audio)
CONFIRMED ZERO LEG \ DELAY \ 2 MS RESPONSE TIME (WHICH DOESN'T MATTER BUT!! lol)

That is how Evo roll I'm pretty sure
Then if we want.. we can use a projector for spectating purposes.

My monitor I'm using now is like this.. can be use at events.. I took it Xlan last year.

Evo has ever-so slightly more money and sponsorship than the NZ scene does...
However I'm a little surprised nothing was done about the lag considering an alternative is available right at GIGA. I guess too few sticks was the problem.

True, but we can just have like 1 important set up for this purpose, and the monitor can be the one I'm on now.
Oh and yeah Lenny bought up funds yesterday, hopefully Ranbats will be decent fundraising but let us know if anything else springs to mind? I'll be attending the Auckland ranbats as often as possible.
Edit: Actually.. ranbats costs probably cover venue and not much more lol.. my bad.

Oh well I have a pretty coushy networking job so if you guys ever come up short a bit.. just let me know.

You were awesome bro! And believe me.. Mike and I would of been much happier not getting Andy and Hue right off the bat and having to go to losers to peace people out ;[

Look forward to more games at Ranbats some time! And hopefully I can put the boxer high block tip you gave me into practice..

And wow I can't belive a copy of SFIV actually went to somebody who didn't have one already! That's awesome man ;D

Yeah I was sick as fuck at that tourney most of my time in between matches was me trying to catch my breath hahahaha. I had a pretty shitty night beforehand as well hahaha. I also think it would be cool to run the tourneys on big CRTs, I know it looks ugly but it's definitely easier than using gay TVs with big lag, also gives us one less thing to complain about. :3

Can somebody remind me which characters Jacksmash and Fong used?

Jack played Akuma and Fong played Balrog (Boxer).

Well I know Giga have PC monitors and I'm sure they should play fine. I remember getting no complaints at Fong's place when I set up my 20" LCD monitor. It was one of the monitors used in WCG 2008 for the CS tournament so I'm pretty happy with it being 2ms and not noticing any lag. Although atm I'm really only playing on a CRT. I'm always glad to bring along my monitor. And at Giga there is a projector, so I'm sure we could probably setup more of a professional tournament area there.

Late post but anyways, Andy thank you for the mean tourney and regarding the match where you hit the pause button during Zangief's ultra..... Im glad you manned up and gave it back to Kevin bro, despite actually winning the game.

Good to see everyone turn up and just slug it out and great to meet new faces, cheers Skullator for recording the matches and apologies for telling you to be quiet during our first game, the nerves was kicking in ya see  :P and good stuff for posting our latest tourney on the other Aussie forums.

Just to finish off i think a special shout out to my little brother Jack is in order. He stayed composed throughout the day and showed good form, GG's bro.

We originally intended on going Balrog/Sagat to give ourselves the best chance of winning the tourney as Sagat would of been the only answer for Kevin's Zangief however we may of not gotten to the finals with him, so we decided to go Akuma in the event i lost to some of the other top guys and he had to carry us through. This didn't happen tho and it was smooth sailing all the way to the finals and ended up with a big russian raping us from the get go. We both agreed there was no pressure at all fighting Kev's Zangief because honestly.... after losing the 1st set we KNEW we couldnt do anything to him. GG's Kevin you once again reminded us why you are the best in NZ.

Anywho thanks again to everyone who helped out and for turning up as it wouldn't happen without ya.

Cheers
Fong.

I heard about the pause-during-ultra thing... and just for the record that should not have been a dq.

Really Alan? I know nobody minds much, but in a pro tournament with set rules I think any pausing still qualifies as a DQ. I'm not too sure what pausing does to your charge assuming a charge character but I know you can't charge in the pause and then unpause and be charged.

And shot Jack, your Akuma was mean.

1) You can't quick recover after an ultra, no doubt you could rebuild charge
2) Guy gonna die anyway!

Thanks Fong for the comments^^

I understand during Giefs Ultra it did not really matter if the game was paused or not and I was told by Lenny as well that it did not matter but in all honesty I know some will complain and such and as an organizer I did not want to see things like such get out of hand. I did what I thought at the time to be the right thing to do... even though I won, I did not feel right.
to me coming 3rd instead of 2nd of 1st is not much of a difference as I believe the whole event was really to have everyone all enjoying the event and finishing with a smile.

But I do apologize to Hue as I let him down in getting Dq and missing the chance to get a higher rank. :(

haha cheers bro and yeah the high block tip does make rogs overhead very unsafe thats some ultra eatin bizniss if blocked, so always block high coz all you cud take is a sweep a throw or a low dash which is much better than overhead c.lk ultra. and yea wud be good to c you at the ranbats bro also i think i saw you focus dash a fireball then ultra st8 away which was impressive good shit bro.

just on ur 2nd point flux, andy didnt die from giefs ultra instead he got up and won the match and the set so he was to move on to finals but proved that he was a good sport and gave his finals spot to kevin, as Andy said "rules are rules" shot for doing that Andy much respect  :)

Just so you know Flux, I would say a real highlight of the day for me was seeing Andy pause, they played on, Andy beat devilstar, and then opted to take the loss anyway.

Pause can be confusing, take you "out of your rhythem" , if done late clear your charge.. but definately cause confusion and get you out of your "headspace" (Bullshit I know.. but that's what people would say)
And really, didn't weazzy only pause during Ultra's at nationals too? Rules are rules. And Andy was a really good sport about it.

That shows how good our community is. How the majority of people are not too hung up on bullshit.. Just wanting to have a good fun event.

And regarding commentating.. no worries. At an event like that it is your decision if you want somebody talking at all or not. I think you just need to learn to tune out and do your thing though man.. all good players have to deal with people talking about or during their matches while playing... and often it is completely out of your control.
(I know cloudlan are looking for commentators for their event, and you can be sure Justin and Daigo have to sit through an awful lot of it..)
But as it was just me and mike with digi camera's there was no problem with me just shutting up haha!
"IT'S ANYBODIES GAME!!" classic. That will be my favorite youtube video of all time if it gets uploaded LOL.

My understanding was that Andy paused the match after he had let rip an ultra that was going to finish the round.  Is that not what happened?

Nope..

I believe it was Kevin's Ultimate atomic buster.. andy mashed pause to speed it up (Lol.. not sure why people do this.. but even I do some times? must be training mode habbit...)
Both players had about 20-30% stamina left... they played on.. Andy won by shoryuken FADC ultra, and then after that andy gave the win away.

I desperately want to replace chocolate with "buttsecks" and candies with "infections" but I have a feeling if i post it, im miraculously going to end up commenting on how massive Leo's penis is, so i think ill avoid it.

P.S.: Leo's penis is in fact massive.
