Oh Man I just got back from WGTN (Great City) and I didnt think WGTN had a MvC2 machine >:(. Last time I played there was in 05 out in Lower Hood but that timezone is closed now. There was no competition either apart from the guy who worked thier who was kinda average. Dammit next time ::)

I didn't really like this arcade to begin with but my opinion is warming.
3s is really the only game there with any comp, Tekken 6 as well but I've no idea how good the comp is.
The staff are actually pretty sweet, there was a smallish tournament in January (3rd Strike), which was like $0.50 sign up or something, some decent prizes and spot prizes, and all entrants got a free drink which was a nice touch, as well as the machine kept on freeplay for another hour or so.
3s Comp is a lot better than it was a 18 months ago in Wellington, but if it's not your game, it's not your game (however it really is the ONLY game).
People I were talking too were generally not sold on Street Fighter IV though, because of the whole no parrying thing, but if it was to come to the arcade, I'm sure they would convert.
I'm gong to visit the mall next thursday . Need 2 do something in Wellington . So might be dropping by

I'd stick to what I topld you- it isn't really the best idea to super though the LOVs. It's pretty obvious when Chuns start getting ready to do it and it's a pretty simple matter of adjusting your spacing/bluffing/buffering into your own super.
But yeah, Patricks Dudley is ???... And it doesn't even matter to him what super her goes most of the time. He does have one pretty predictable super confirm/tick throw set up though once you get used to it that he throws out a lot.

Oh, and also learning against Patrick's Dudley and Hugo is fucking retarded , I've lost way too much money that way (last week I think I lost 10 games straight Necro vs Hugo and made no progress at all). You don't even get a rough idea what you're doing right or wrong and what works or not.
I think you just gotta keep it a bit more simple (like that video above), your mixup game doesn't need to be that complicated... Think almost a cross between an aggressive Necro and Makoto, if that makes sense.

^I'm pretty sure you can do that off a point blank palm, Chun specific.
I *think* you can do two zorro chops -> standing fierce against shotos.
Personally I think you're better off just buffering your super from the palm and confirming, and buffering a (forward) roll kick-> jab from the close foward (or super jump roundhouse reset-> command grab/cr.forward-> ex zorro chops mixup).
Trying to juggle with zorro chops does my head in- the timing of it is way too character specific.

IMO you can go either way on the supers (apart from vs duds/hugo where you need the storm), but the snake actually forces you to learn/use him rather than just building meter and sitting back.

Apparently the Necro vs Remy matchup isn't an easy one to get used to either, jus sayin. Drill kicks, landed or not are almost always punishable with EX sommersaults and he has a bit of trouble getting in for the big stun combos (I also think Remy's sprite is fucking annoying to juggle with Necro). But I guess we'll see on Thursday...

Oh yeah, just remembered this sick/random combo I landed on sam the other night.
I was fucking with Akuma and did a hurricane kick (thinking roundhouse but must have been short) over him on knockdown for the last hit to crossup, I think. Anyway, he must have tried to jump or something but the last hit connected and I super fireballed backwards and he ate it.
Nothing incredible but a funny gimmick. Also juggling with fireball after a shin shoryuken in the corner sets up an ok reset. s. RH might be nicer.
Oh something I did want to ask though. Do you remember when you pulled out scrubgun headbutt alex at the arcade way back? Anyway you were going for the blockstun setup but I got hit by the slash, went up in the air and landed into the super. Trying to get my head around how that happened after I was playing around with it all saturday.

I think I've seen all of those, not the most practical of combo videos ever... When I was playing a lot of Alex I used to always try for the BIG BOOT on someone jumping out of the corner and it never once landed.. Probably better used on a scrub after a wakeup dragonpunch bait.
Akuma combo: sounds like a MK hurricane if it whiffed a hit and you could combo off it (forward hurricanes can be comboed into super from the right distance).
Ryu combo: Roundhouse is better if you're close enough... (this actually came on SRK recently I think)
Alex combo: I have no idea. The stungun headbutt is like a wild beast, one can never truely tame it. :D
GGs, was a pretty sweet grind session but I couldn't seem to get used to the sticks at all, my hit confirms where fucked >:(. Makes me wanna get my 15th anniversary stick all modded up asap.

Yeah the few things you describe are tricky stuff though and not totally simple plus I dont have the 'feel' for the character like you do.
I have been having a bit of success with him against other people so it's not totally like it's only because your not use too it (though a fair amount is, I think)
Like, you eat a lot of low frisbees, and like you said you just haven't had to deal with that jackassery before.
But yeah got some wins with him against Tyler, and Chocolate Thunder even got a P against Tyler's Akuma. Though it only involved, he jumped, missed parry, ate air fireball, rh tackle, ex tackle, rh tackle, back fierce then I dropped a reflector and chipped him. Combo did like 95%. Was pretty funny.
But you've gotta be stoked with a Remy buddy, how funny would it be if there was a 2on2 tourney and we made a team of Remys.

Haha- Frankie plays Akuma like Ryu... Apparently our resident AK/RY player thinks this is "ugly" and one shouldn't even bother.
Dash demons are meant to be one of the easier buffers as far as I know (well, easier than instant demons). Tyler says he can do them but I've never seen him do it ever, I assume it's because he doesn't know how to set them up right.
I actually think I'll be playing a steady diet of ken/denjin/yang/Q for a bit now and I'm going to cop a lot of flack for it in the process 8)

I think it's definitely something he picked up with Q to get out of ambiguous crossup situations... His ken in general reeks of Q IMHO :)

I'm enjoying playing Q a lot even against Ken. In a masochistic way it's a fun matchup. I think I can hold my own just inside sweep distance, but I'm screwed point black and ex hurricane ambiguous cross up can diaf man.
I'm pretty adament that playing denjin is entirely braindead and ken and akuma have stuff you actually have to learn, haha. Ryu in 3S is watered down ken with a bigger haymaker combo (donkey kick) and a kara throw.

Damn Kuroda's Ken is SICK, some of the best ken footage I've seen.
I liked his Denjin Ryu a lot though. But yeah, Ryu is kinda dull. And the super is a gimmick but it's a pretty good one.
Not giving up FOR, I just don't see why you need to "learn" or even practise it if you have ken basics down.
IMO the best ken footage is by INO vs Kuroda (AK)... this is relentless. The wakeup games coming from both sides is amazing.

Still need to find a good option for capture and grab in the corner that lets me get a taunt off. Currently I've been going jab dash -> b.fierce reset (do it against the computer and it sets up a loop they're too dumb to get out of). I assume doing neutral fierce gets the knockdown but I think you either need to get the dash punch early or it's character specific.

As of now the have a SF4 machine a-la CHCH, on what looks like T6 cab (but surely isn't).
Complete with all the characters, non skippable intros, colour select etc ;).
Surprised games are only $1.50 (VIP $1.25) tbh.
Has an annoying tendency to hang/lag (seldom happens though, hope it doesn't ever get worse).
I assume this will mean upcoming tournaments in Wellington ;D

just got back from having a jam during my lunch break
and to be honest its average at best but it was only due to the controls
one of three things were wrong
1)button inputs didnt register regularly
2)buttons were so bad it did not register unless u used excesive force
3)a combination of 1 and 2
i could not even do hp,hp,slide with fuerte
i could do hp,hp and then nothing drop kick
or hp,hp ex run
and it wasnt laggy if the controls didnt suck it would have been really good

went to third strike after playing and the controls on the 3rd strike machine were like sanwa in comparison (as youd know are more like fish n chip controls)

yeah the 3s controls are not amazing by any stretch but when you're use to them the stick ATLEAST, is actually quite good. but not going to defend the buttons too much, I have actual Sanwa's at home and they are amazing compared to anything else.
Sanwa sticks are awesome too but not as use to them.
you really have to try it out to understand how rubbish the controls are its probably worse than marvel and i think that is the worst they have
ive played on some bad setups but that is up there with the worst
i honestly cant figure out how they have done this and it doesnt work in theory it should just be 2 usb sticks and done
unless to do the dodgy shit it had to be something special
Just had a small jam before work (lost 4 times to a Cammy player), I don't have any major complaints at all apart from having to wait for fight intros.
It's a better console than the 3S one, and I have no major problems with that other than trying to get my stun juggles out ;)

Yeh, me and a couple of the boys from work went and sessioned it in the evening (Tuesday 16th)
It's still crazy laggy and glitchy...at one point after winning...my mate challenged, chose cammy...then the Chun Vs. Viper vid started playing!? we hit start and got into it...then my Abel just stopped responding to button inputs completely...all I could do was move around!!! Faaaark!!!
The set-up feels pretty nasty to be honest.
Joysticks feel too flimsy...and they seem quite long...square gates ok (Octagonal @ home)
Buttons dont look too nice...like you can see where the actual switch connects to the push button from the top of the button :-\
They do the job though.
I guess I'm just critical because I'm proud of my TE stick.
All in all...if they get it totally fixed from all the laggy glitching...it'd be a shweet set-up!!!

also, we use to play at TO extreme, in like mid-late 2007. But 3s in Welly got a lot better for the most part between 2008-2010. There are/were more players worth playing against than just Patrick. Between moose, another guy who doesn't post here and I, we leveled up a lot in that time. For the most part, other than us, not many people have bothered to keep playing because they just think that patrick especially, is too good and they can never beat him. Patrick still won probably every tournament in that time though, but in general play and those tournaments they got a lot closer. Also moose eliminated him from nationals last year.
Anyway, who do you/did you use? and do you still play at all? moose and I are going to have some sessions in prep for nats sometime soon hopefully, been playing other stuff a lot more since TZ closed, was getting closeish to my platinum card too.
I'd be keen to play again, same reason wanna prac for nats. I play Yun and Dudley mostly but reasonable with Ken and Chun.
Keen for some 3s lessons (probably trash by now).

Tekken is in there because realistically that's Wellington's biggest fighting game player base and we need a player base.
