Title: Welcome back True Believers! The Comic Universe Thread
Post by: samurai black on December 05, 2010, 10:36:42 AM
speaking of walking dead, i heard they fired the entire writing team on the show. guess it was too different to the books

Funny they did that. From what I have been reading Episode 4 was all done by the writer of the comic book? I cant remember the Mexicans being in the comic that early. Even the creator of the book changed it from the comic series.

I might have to find the Walking Dead comics, me and DVS have just watched 5 episodes of the TV show ,its really good.

I recently read 'Crossed' its like a weird spin on zombie apocalypse where the zombies arent so much walking dead, as raving psychos that kill, rape and dismember everyone. its pretty harcore but well written.
Its by the Garth Ennis (Preacher, Hellblazer etc)

Sounds like a good spin.

they needed to bust out the RSF's before was too late bro.

Frank Darabot (Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile) is the main writer for the show and has advised that it will be in the same universe but a different story to the Comic.  Characters and certain scenes will be in the show but will follow it's own road.

Also, most of those writers are also involved in other parts of the production so I think they come and go as writers to bounce ideas of Frank.

Yeh I heard that. First reaction was "hope this doesn't end up like Heroes."
Then I watched the IGN video announcing it, and they said the same thing lol.

I'm collecting The Walking Dead at the moment. Gooooood shit, and the show is just as good IMO.

I've read some of Crossed, but it wasn't from the beginning. Isn't it like, some sort of Satanic plague? Since they get that weird cross thing across their face?

I think it will be sweet as, especially with it being produced by AMC who seem to be doing an awesome job.

But again, please don't end up like heroes :'(

Anne Hathaway? Aww mud. Wait a min. Aww Catwoman? Mud as.

I hope the guy who play Bane is 9 ft tall and has muscles on his muscles. Or else this will be shit. I hate it when the get puny guys to play muscular guys (no homo). Like that fag who played Venom on spiderman. Or the geek that played Goku and the rest of the DBZ cast were shit.

That batman movie with the terminator in it was the best cast ay. Everyone suited it so mint.

a bunch of comic fags are hating on jesse mccartney playing robin, which i think is dumb. most probably just dislike him cause hes well, jess mccartney. i think they keep forgetting that robin is supposed to be like 12, so they want him sounding like james earl jones or some shit.

marvel seems to the only one setting up their avengers movie.

i dont see much planned for a justice league movie, afaik the batman movies are self contained, and will probably be the same with this superman reboot. i mean, they need the big three if they want to consider a justice league movie and i doubt we're getting a wonder woman movie any time soon.

if i want to watch a movie about the justice league, ill watch one of the awesome animated ones.

Yeah not comic booky enough. That's the main problem with comic book movies (in fact most movies) they think that by being gritty and realistic it some how rationalizes an adult watching the film. Like colour is somehow only for kids.

You can't compare The Watchmen and Sin City (graphic novel) to something comparatively shallow like Captain America. Not only do they have a definitive conclusion but they also stretch a long way from your typical comic book which I'm sure Simon was referring to. When in reference to how gritty and serious the movies are in relation to the original medium, Watchmen and Sin City were, and still have a far bigger emphasis on the humanity and development of the protagonists compared to your typical comic, especially their shallow origin stories.

in before 'bro don't say that about blah blah, i blah blah in my pants cos blah blah is cool.'

Sin City was awesome. SO was Watchmen.

I used to love that x men cartoon. I remember when it got up to Apocalypse. Fuck i wonder how they beat him. Was wayyy better than evolution. Evolution they was punks as kids hahaha. I wonder how they beat Apocalypse on that show too actually.

The Watchmen G novel is awesome.  Movie was fail.  Relied too much on boobies and random violence to carry it.  Made it boring.  Don't get me wrong, I love pointless explosions, and boobs, but you have to be going for one or the other in a movie.  Not try and have deep and meaningful shit, and then LOL BOOBIES!! Doesn't work well in most cases.

I think the only thing they did well with in the movie was Rosrarch(spelling?).

SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING THAT IS IN ITALICS FOR FEAR OF SPOILERS:
I think they really fucked up the movie by not having the alien thingy in it.  Making them blame it on Dr. Manhattan in the movie instead of on the Alien thingy really fucked it up.  Changed the whole idea behind them rallying to a common cause and stuff, because why the fuck would Dr. M do that if he was gonna fuck off anyway?

Also, Veidt character was super fucked up in the movie.  At the end of the film he seems stoked with what he has done, but in the comic book you are left knowing that he understands that for all his work that the human race are gonna fuck it up anyway, and that all his murdering and scheming was just a short fix for a problem that will never go away.

To that I say 300.

the voice actors suck but hot dang the animation in that is well above the xmen animated series .

magneto looks fucking boss and straight outa the arcade .

Man The Watchmen was so fucking boring. I tried watching it three times, and all three times I fell asleep. Sin City remains one of my favourite movies ever though.

I read the Fear Itself prologue. Didn't really give you much. It sounds cool though. I think there's going to be 7 Fear Itself issues? And it's gonna be tied into a whole lot of other comics as well. The first one is Thor, so that's prob why they got these Thor related dudes. Had some preview sketches. Pretty cool seeing Thor vs Odin.

so i been catching up on some batman, starting back from i think the end of infinite crisis? the one where bruce decides to go and shoot darkseid.

read battle for the cowl, enjoyed it enough. preferred the 'evil batman' running around since he looked much more imposing than any other one. also read the first 17 or so issues of streets of gotham and that story has some fucked up shit :/

think i need to read more batman, really enjoying it.

Title: Re: Welcome back True Believers! The Comic Universe Thread
Post by: samurai black on April 21, 2011, 12:02:13 PM
shows what i know. apparently theyre working on the dark knight returns after this

QuoteWe reported last week in our DARK KNIGHT RETURNS article that BATMAN: YEAR ONE was being made by DC Animation for release later in the year.  Well, Hollywood Reporter has exclusive additional information on the project, and right now it's sounding more and more impressive.

According to HR, we're getting a pretty terrific cast for the animated film - Bryan Cranston (BREAKING BAD) for Gordon, Ben McKenzie (SOUTHLAND) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Eliza Dushku (BUFFY: THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) as Catwoman, and Katee Sackhoff (BATTLESTAR: GALACTICA) as Detective Sarah Essen.

Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's YEAR ONE is considered pretty much the definitive Batman origin story, and you can see its influences all over Christopher Nolan's films as well as the other animated Batman shows.  It's beloved by Batman fans the world over, and considered one of Miller's best works.  Bruce Timm, who executive produced, said, "The source material is surprisingly cinematic; it's a pretty straight forward literal retelling.  Mazzucchelli's artwork is beautifully composed and we were able to refer to the comic for about 80 percent of the camera setups."  So it's sounding like a very loyal interpretation of the source material, which should make fans very happy.

Something else that should make fans happy - it'll be PG-13, and it looks like it will be premiering at ComicCon in July before being released on DVD and Blu-Ray this fall.  I'd imagine those tickets will be hot property this year.

read some irredeemable. basically their superman pastiche goes a bit crazy and fucks shit up. a bit kaka.

read some dead end. tis a manga and ugly as fuck but theres something really cool about it.

oh, watched the other DC showcase shorts. first one was the shazam one, which wasnt bad. the next three are green arrow, jonah hex and the spectre.

good action in green arrow, bit like die hard 2 cause its at the airport, jonah hex was pretty mature for an animated flick and the spectre was a bit bolo.

Yeah i think I read 4 of the 6 Akira books from the library. I've watched the movie like 30 times since the 90's.
It really is an amazing comic. I ended up keeping it for too long and got a $70 library fine like a retard and couldn't get the rest of the books out.

I real all of Osamu Tezuka's 'Buddha' from the library. I thought it might be boring and preachy or something but it is just an amazingly well paced and interesting story. It's long, there's about 10 books or so. There is an anime being made for it, or maybe it's out already but the trailer didn't look very good at all.

Yeah I was the one that got those Buddha books into the library. I enjoyed them somewhat. But for some reason I can never really get into Tezuka's comics. I keep trying to force myself to like them cos he's the Grand Daddy of manga. But I dunno why I just can't.
