Title: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: Lennysaurus on April 21, 2011, 10:29:06 AM
Location
Giga Internet Cafe, Level 2, 65 Wakefield Street, Auckland Central

When
Fortnightly on a Saturday.  Check Thread title for next date.
Midday till 5PM

Cost
$10-00 per person

So this is how it will work.

Upon paying to join in, you will be given a token of some sort.  You put the token on the setup that you want to play on, and wait in line, just like in the arcade.  Loser moves on, Winner stays on the setup.  If you win 3 times in a row, you get off to let other people have a turn.

Number of setups will depend on the number of people that turn up.

You should pro-rate it at $2 an hour, so if people turn up at 4pm they can join in for only $2 etc etc . If people turn up at 12 though they must pay the whole $10 for 5 hours.

We kind of did that for ranbats where if people came late and missed the bracket they could join the casuals for $5 bucks, I imagine we will do something similar here (if you come after 2:30 it is $5 dollars).

Yah last time it was all marvel heads.  Pretty sure there'll be more people there this time Andy, so will more than likely run a SSFIV setup.

What does diu mean?

I'm upgrading my Dante technology, so hopefully it'll mean that my team is more than just Viper, with Tron or sent behind her.  Really looking forward to this.

Ok well thats about 16 people so we'll run 3-4 setups (ssf4, mvc3, mk9) If we get 20+ people we'll run 5-6 setups (as long as we have enough sticks).

Im sure people will play super if you start a setup but really its up to people who want to play super to get motivated and come along to the event. We were playing marvel because thats the game we wanted to play not because we dont wanna play super.

yeah last weekend everyone was keen on marvel and didn't really wanna play super. we will definitely have a super setup this time given how many people are coming.

2 things I picked up from todays session

1) I'm dropping Doom. He's just too awkward for me :( See ya later Gamma Double :(
2) I'm pretty fucking awful. Static, rubbish offense, and can't block to save my life.

Really liked today. I actually got to play someone else at MvC3! Sorry my joe team is so bad. Really cool to see what everyone is coming up with in the game. Hagger and dorm seem to be seen in a lot of the teams and wolvie the stickiest guy in MvC.

Btw Eru... MORE RANDOM DRILLS!!

Awesome day. Can't wait for the next one! Hopefully I will make it.

haha far from it. with a little pressure with some mix ups and resets i fall apart. i think it was just the fact that i had a decent keepaway team which made it hard for tron and hulk once i gained some space. glad you learnt something playing me tho and definitely looking foward to more matches in the near future

Don't worry Bill, I got this one.

Step 1:  Neutral jump
Step 2:  Air dash forwards
Step 3:  Mash feirce while holding towards opponent
Step 4:  If feirces are hitting, hit S button and do combo, if feirces are blocked, see step 1

Also GG's everyone.  Taku, I'll flick the viper stuff I was talking to you about in the MVC3 section.

Yeah forgot to mention how beast Eru's DHC glitch to hulk was. 90% of the time he didn't even need the followup dayum. I've been thinking up some anti-tron strats now, I'll try them out next time we play :D
Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on May 11, 2011, 06:25:35 AM
Youve been trying to devise a strat to combat a massive character with low mobility?

I'm no Sun Tzu or anything, but "shoot her for a free win" sticks out for me.
Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: massi4h on May 11, 2011, 10:13:41 AM
Well she's not that tall and her air dash h has a massive hitbox and can be hard to get around.
Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on May 11, 2011, 10:54:18 AM
Shes tall as. Shes taller than normal characters (ie. cap) anyway in terms of where she's vulnerable. And air dash H is airthrow bait if its giving you grief. You can even meet it AFTER startup and airthrow it if you want too. Any character with reasonable mobility and a half decent ranged option should be able to keep tron at bay easily. She IS good in certain matches, but its pretty limited. Who are you using that is having issues with her?
Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: geneterror on May 11, 2011, 01:26:42 PM
Yeah Tron sucks hard against someone like Storm that can rushdown AND play keepaway. I can pretty much just jump up/back and do whirlwind in the air and it will hit regardless of whether she is jumping or standing just not when superjumping obviously. Not sure if it hits crouching Tron or not.

Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: massi4h on May 11, 2011, 01:52:53 PM
Airdash H isn't that easy to just jump up and airthrow. And only idiots are gonna be whiffing it too much (it does have heaps of active frames). Her airdash H is a really good tool of hers which does great pressure and landing one can lead to 80% damage+.

Even the top US Tron players spam that shit like Justin. I didn't say it was broken, but it's not braindead to beat.
Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on May 11, 2011, 02:24:56 PM
It IS that easy to airthrow. Don't dismiss it so readily. Ive seen plenty of Tron players get airthrown out of airdash H. It's a good tool of hers for sure, but its also really REALLY easy for her to make a mistake with. Youre going to need to eat a few airdash H's to get the timing down, same as anything. But it works. Im not saying airthrow is a free win, but its easy enough to land on her with a bit of practice. Its obviously not be the best thing to be doing against it in ALL situations. I mentioned keepaway before airthrow, because keepaway is a far better option. It was the second thing I mentioned because I find its overlooked by a lot of players having specific trouble with Tron's airdash H.

I honestly don't think she's a complex character to get your head around. Pick her up IMO. Her weaknesses show themselves pretty quick when youre using her.

Her gameplan is a slightly harder to execute version of week one sentinel in most cases. The counters are all the same, PLUS with some practice you'll learn when to air throw her. Yes you get random tagged for big damage, but its the same with half the characters in the game, and most of those are far better on point than Tron is.

No Beef Mason. For serious.
Title: Re: Fortnightly "Saturday Grind Sessions" Saturday 7th May
Post by: Lennysaurus on May 11, 2011, 03:22:12 PM
It's only easy to airthrow if the Tron decides to spam jump dash H in bad spots.  If it's used properly, and not just 'herp derp i r jump and dash lolz' then it can be difficult.

THe other thing against Tron, is that you don't want to push block all her stuff all the time.  If your opp is jump dash H'ing alot, don't pushblock the first one, and then if she does it again you have her in prime airthrow real estate.  Heaps of characters can also dash forward and raw launch her out of the air too, so check whether or not your characters can do that.  Dante and Sent do it really well.

TBH This is why I was buzzing out at Eru's Tron on the weekend.  Even though he probably didn't win heaps of games, I thought he played her pretty smartly in most cases.
