Only thing I can think of is having 1 or 2 casual setups available throughout the whole day, apart from that everything was wicked.  :D

a casual set up wouldve been ace. we kinda got that once the majority of the tournament was through though.

Yeah we wanted to have a couple of casual setups but I didn't have any time to get any set up, and they would have been off to the side somewhere anyway. Will try harder next time though!

Maybe start the even earlier? 11am?

Wouldn't it be better to use the would be causal setups to run more matches? That way we could get bigger and better finals. + the previously discussed single console format or sticks only

That's right. Casual setups will draw attention away from interesting matches, everyone will spread out and the hype will be reduced.
It would be nice if we have casual matches after tournament also.

Maybe 12. I think we need time to setup the consoles and wait for players to come also.

What's about holding the event at Giga instead of RVB ?? Since giga opens 24/7, we don't have to rush to finish the tournament before 6pm/7pm

Does anyone thought of starting at like 6pm? and finish. Whatever time its take.
It will be crazy and it is the first time we are all staying till late.
Like last time after the tourny. Most of us went there and stay until like 2 or 3.

1: because they will charge you 2x-4x the amount of retal for the venue
2: because people will be half dead after 10 pm as most people are not up till that late and also people tend to get tired and can not perform their best.
3: After tourny everyone will go home since they are dead by then :) where as if we start earlier we can still fit dinner afterwards and gaming time as well so people can actualyl catch up during this time where they couldn't during the tourny.

Yeah but how many setups/people can giga realistically take? Would be AWESOME to not have the time constraints though!!!

we can try to talk to giga and see. At the moment, we can have 3 consoles. I'm sure people are keen to bring their consoles & sticks if we need more. Not sure about TV & space though.

Haha. I can picture what a simon-run tournament would be like. There would only be one rule.

Rule #1: Simon Wins

If there is going to be a major tourney at Giga, I am more than happy to bring my 32inch LCD along to make another setup.  Provided everyone helps look after it.
Title: Re: Tournament August 09 feedback
Post by: zos'la on August 18, 2009, 03:10:36 PM
I can not agree more lol.
I beleive Giga is more than happy to run 4 setups which includes teh big projector if there is no lag, else we can bring our own LCD if need be?
But remember these tournament won't be as big as previous ones so 3 setup should be by far enought. Also I am sure they won't put a time constrant like RVB but it would be good if we can try and finish on time and if not advise them in advance so they can sort their stuff out if they have any plans. At most they will just say an entra $10 bucks per hour per pod which we can easily compensate for the 3 setups :)

I'll have to check witht eh boss for some good deals, if they can not provide us close or better deals than we currently have with RvB then just leave it with RvB.

Be realistic.

Although I am anti-AUT, there is Vesbar which is pretty close. It's way smaller than Auckland Uni's bar Shadows, but at least drinks are cheap.

woulda been cool to be able to see the bracket the whole day, maybe on the projector?
Then you might not have to yell out for next fighters so much, as everyone would know when their next fight is, and on what station.

Title: Re: Tournament August 09 feedback
Post by: fluxcore on August 19, 2009, 04:38:53 PM
I'm actually not sure that I could accomplish that using the software, it doesn't have draggable windows so I couldn't just show the bracket on another monitor easily. I do actually have a couple of things to ask the writer of that software, so maybe I'll throw that one in as well.

Another issue is that people have to be able to actually follow the dbl elim bracket, it's not that obvious from it whether you have a match coming up soon. Also, I was hand picking which stations matches got played on as they came up, I can't see any other way of doing that tbh, what with pad players and ppl wanting to use specific consoles.

If you looked at the screen I was staring at the whole 7 hours, it wasn't a bracket at all, just a list of matches due to be played in the near future. This way I could actually tell people if they had a match coming up soon.

we could of just show the matches that were coming up on teh screen, pad or console issues can be sorted once its their match, I had a 32 inch screen near teh counter that i ask if u wanted to use. maybe next time we can do better^^

Hrmm, making it single platform and forcing people to register online before the day of the event would enable us to sort this shit out. Dunno how this would affect numbers though =/

Only problem with having the brackets visible is the potential for abuse by people throwing matches etc, because of who they have/will face in the tourney.

it will only show the next 7-8 match so people can prepare for them, not the whole bracket.

Nah its not knowledge, its weazzys pubes.

Thats all good on paper, but a good portion of our entrants werent actually members of the site. I personally think it would make it a hell of a lot easier as well. Probably best to encourage pre-reg AND pre-paying (because if youve payed, then odds are youre gonna turn up. Pre-paying would essentially be a 100% confirmation that youre gonna be there.) for next time, just to save a bit of time on the day.

And no refunds bitches.

If all youre doing is changing the artwork on the namco then all good.  But if you are changing the stick and buttons, its a pretty hard mod.

The buttons are wired directly to the pcb making it a bitch.  If you want to change out the stock buttons and stick, you have to:
-Rip out the old pcb and hack a new pad for it
-Make the holes slightly larger for the new buttons
-Change the "shaft" of the stick for a smaller one

Namco will be a strictly artwork change 8)
That damn thing will soldier on forever!

Just get a case built for you and buttons/joystick.
The rest = easy pz with PCB and wiring as I beleive you want a ps1/ps2 pad hacked?
Just get teh case ready with teh buttosn and stick and its a piece of cake.
oh and a version A or H for the digital ps1 PAD would be great, easy to mod. Check out Slagcoin.com for the Controller details.

As for your PS2 to be modded, go to mod-cip.com and get a nice chip you like for your PS2 making sure its correspond to your PS2 version which you can check from you schp: xxxxxxx at the back of your PS2. When you order make sure they send you the wiring diagram for the PCB as I think they give you an option to ahve it or not? not sure.

Once you have done so, we can look into getting it modded.

If you have the old fat PS2 you can soft mod it to run without opnening it up.

My memorycard modchip (http://www.ozmodchips.com/memor32-mementoteam-vast-ps2-plug-and-play-modchip-more-p-86.html) died a couple of months ago.  Can't be bothered getting a new one since all I played on it was the Metal Gearl Solid the essential collection.

Get one? If you have a NORMAL memory card for ps2, I can mod it. The only caveat is that you have to reburn your isos with a patch (it works by making the game disc into a video disc, and then the memory card hack can play it as a video).

It's called... freeMCboot / ESR or something similar.

Nice Alan!  I was wondering if someone had tried doing that.  I've only read about it online.
