MOD NOTE:  I split this topic from the "First Blood 2011" thread as I want that kept clean for tourney talk.   I thought that this topic had merit so I have moved it here for you guys to talk about"

Just a thought...  Has nzism thought about a donation system, i'd definitely chuck in some cash towards some streaming gear for these things. Or been discussed before and unviable?

Great thought. And we really appreciate the enthusiasm. This is maybe something we can impliment soon. (Since its pretty easy to do)

The problem lies in what the money goes towards. For example, youre keen to donate cash towards streaming gear, but we have a few things we would need to purchase BEFORE streaming gear gets on the cards. So if you were to make a donation, odds are it would end up going towards something else. Equally useful for us as a community, but a misallocation (is that even a word? If it is then im the fucking MAN) of funds in terms of what you were intending.

I have a couple of other issues with it that I wont get into. Something that I'll discuss with Lenny and Rory. But its certainly a possibility.

I think it needs a lot of careful thought and absolute transparency.

I don't think it's something that should be entered into lightly. There's completely liability on the part of the "donator" for one thing. Really you'd just be one guy giving someone else some money. It's not a donation in the legal sense.

UNLESS we become an NPO.

OR, LN will get into some of the other issues I have with it on my behalf.

I agree.  Straight up cash donations are a bit of hassle.  eople donating stuff, ie: prizes for tourneys or equipment is a different story though.

FARK we could have an NZism bet on the horses fund, where all the money goes on a horse that we vote on. KA'CHING!

Nah seriously, never actually thought about this but id definitely donate.
Since i dont really help the community out in any other way  ;D

Also if money is getting 'gifted' I would want to see a proper proposal on why NZism actually needs money in the first place.

And I think everyone else should want that too before saying that are happy to throw money around.

It's something I've thought seriously about, especially as people were keen to donate towards getting a pro player from Japan/USA here. Once we are in a position to pull off such an event, that may be a suitable time to see if people in the community would like to chip in for something above and beyond what we usually organise.

I think that unless it's something along those lines then lenny/bill/myself taking donations is a bit suss. Though it would certainly help us as organisers accelerate some of our plans. If you were to donate so we could purchase stuff so we can stream our events, we'd also need to get to a venue which we can stream from, this costs more $$ for the organisers even though we have the gear. So even if we bought the gear, we still might be unable to stream events!

UNLESS we become an NPO.

As you're aware, we've looked into becoming an NPO. Myself and Lenny have anyway. For our size, and what we're doing, it causes more hassle than it's worth. It isnt really a feasible option.

I get what you mean here, but the thing is, we're not ASKING for money. Fact is, if we thought we NEEDED donations, then of course we would draw something up. These guys are OFFERING money to NZism. There's a difference.

To me personally, it just feels awkward taking money that we dont need to be taking. And at this point, we DON'T need to be taking it. Furthermore, IF your donations arent used in a way YOU think is beneficial, then it creates a fucking shit monsoon. And we cant accept donations on the grounds that it will go towards a specific thing, since we still have a lot of other, smaller stepping stones to acquire before we can think about getting things that might require donations for us to achieve.

Its not that we don't appreciate the willingness to contribute. Its fucking awesome that you guys are this passionate about everything. Donations ARE a great idea, but its better at this point to just sit on your hands (And wallets) until we have sorted our base level requirements. THEN we can look into more specific and pricey things (streaming stuff, International air fares etc.) that we probably won't be able to afford without community assistance. This way you will KNOW what your money is going towards. There wont be any confusion, and we can do things 'properly'.

TBH, you give so much to this community anyway lol.

I just think that there is a whole lot of accountability involved.  Hassle is the wrong word, but realy there needs to be something that shows what we want the money for (e.g.: equipment, get Filipino Champ here, etc), and that there are clear lines showing that peoples money is going to what we say it is.

This is the approach we would need if we were to go down this route imo.

a lot of points there, i don't mind donating even if its not going towards streaming gear for now, as long as its in the plans.

i'l leave the thinking to you guys.
