Alright guys.  Had an awesome chance to playing MvC3 today (well a couple of hours ago) in a gaming event.

So the lowdown -

It's the E3 build.  Selectable characters are -

  • Ryu
  • Dante
  • Morrigan
  • Felicia
  • Chris Redfield
  • Ironman
  • Captain America
  • Deadpool
  • Hulk
  • Wolverine
Button Setup
A - Weak Attack
B - Normal Attack
C - Strong Attack
D - Launcher
A1 - Assist 1
A2 - Assist 2

Back+A1/A2 - Swap partners

How is the game MAN!!!! -
Alright, first of all the game was running off the xbox360.  Had 2 setups.  One with controllers and another with arcade sticks.  Playing on the arcade setup was a little hard since the buttons weren't configured properly hence the layout was uncomfortable.

The game is fast.  Feels like MvC2 fast.  Maybe faster like playing MvC2 under slight turbo increase.  Not sure if that speed will be the default setting.  Assist is different.  Its more alike to Tatsunoko.  Your assist doesn't pop into screen instantly like MvC2.  They jump in a small split second later after you call for assist.  But you can choose your assist type unlike Tatsunoko.  Each character has 3 assist type.  For example Ryu can choose form his Hadoken, Shoryuken or Tatsu assist.

Game looks great and moves smoothly even at such an early stage.  Although some character model do look a little off.  Hulk and Ironman comes to mind.  Just can't put my finger on it.  They look a little like plastic toys in comparison to the other models.  Both Ryu and Morrigan looks like a more polish Tatsunoko model.  Definitely more details to them.

Sound wise it was too loud to really hear anything.

The launcher button really does just that.  You can hit A->B->C->D and you will launch your opponent without the need to go down+D or anything.  You can then follow up with something like A->A->B->B->Tatsu->Shinkuu Hadoken.  The D button will set off the launcher animation.  Eg - Ryu's D is his uppercut or Morrigan's D is her crouching hard or Hulk's D is his crouching hard.  Hope you guys get the idea.

Ryu plays very similar to his Tatsunoko self.  The standard stuff from Tatsunoko Ryu works here.  His BnB from Tatsunoko I could pull off.  Morrigan plays very similar to her Tatsunoko counterpart as well.

Hulk doesn't have super armour.  I read about this during those E3 reports and thought to myself how weird and indeed its weird playing Hulk when you essentially can't do anything due to his lack of super armour.  Hulk's model is HUGE though.  He really feels like a true green giant.  Doesn't help since he is a huge target and get hit out easily.  I am sure in the final game Hulk will have that super armour.  His Gamma Charge now hits multiple times and not just once and can change direction just like McV2.

Wolverine feels really solid.  His Berserker Barrage looks like it has a bigger hitbox and his super berserker barrage definitely hits a much larger area.  Not so much increase in forward range but definitely slices upwards more now.  Fast, hits hard and heath wise I am sure is either on par with Deadpool or better.  I was also pulling off drill claw here and there and I am not sure how.  Possibly a direction and 2 attack buttons.  Not sure but its indeed a much faster attack now.

Chris Redfield, yeah couldn't figure out his moves.  Feels average really and his super is crazy zany.  When it was done on me, I held back to block and the first feel shots from the gun I can block but I can't seem to block the grenade shots.  Then I did the same super to my mate and same thing, blocked the initial shots but not the couple of big grenade shots at the end.  Not sure if that was supposed to happen in the final build or we were blocking it wrong somehow.  Apart from that he feels slowish and doesn't really have much range but again didn't help as we couldn't consistently pull out his specials apart from his machine gun shot which is average.

Cap America's shield throw now hits twice.  Once going forward and 2nd time when it goes back to him.  Super shield charge is now QCB x 2 + A+B.  I guess some supers will have small input change due to only having 3 attack buttons.  Never really payed too much attention to Cap in MvC2 so to me he feels similar to MvC2 Cap.

Dante I can see being the character that everyone will go for when they first buy the game.  He feels at this stage overpowered already. LOL.  His ice fireball that not only travels forward (Not full screen but I think around 70%-75% of the screen), it also spikes upwards.  Really good as a keep away game and also as an anti air.  He also has a dashing slash that travels I am pretty sure full screen and does good damage once it connects and its fast.  He also has good reach with his normals as he uses the sword.  He is like the "Jack of all trades" character.  Gun super was pretty ave actually as it doesn't I feel come out fast enough but his 2nd super where he goes devil trigger is great as it increases his damage output and speed and increases the effects of his specials as well.

Deadpool is like a character you use to annoy others I feel.  LOL.  Ok, so he has grenade toss where he jumps up and throws 2 grenade towards the ground.  Different buttons means different angles.  The explosion isn't instant so it can catch players off guard if they dash in or try a random jump in.  He also has a standing dual pistol shot which comes out pretty fast and also a ground rushing ground slash that hits low.  His "Bang, bang, bang.." super comes out faster I feel than Dante's gun super but overall he feels like a fast but weak character.  Also I feel his health is low or at least lower than the guys in this build.

Felicia, not sure.  Don't really play her.  Although I couldn't do her sand kick.

Ironman still beats all.  His beam still chips very nicely and comes out fast.  His Photon Cannon super still just as strong but it doesn't feel like it comes out as fast as MvC2 cannon.  His shoulder grenade feels to have a larger explosion and looks like it can be used to play a good keep away match.

Thats all I have guys.  I am no MvC2 pro so my observations my not be as deep as some of you may like it to be.  Feel free to ask any questions but please bear in mind again I am no Mahvel pro.

Hi guys.  Some small updates on this.  Had a chance to play a slightly newer build but nothing as new as what theya re showing in the States.

Small changes -
* Meter building feels faster now.  Not as fast as MvC2 but definately faster than the earlier build.
* Hulk has super armour but seems to only activate when he is attacking and not if he is moving or stationary.

Additional quick characters impression.  Please bear in mind this is still an older build but at least it contained more characters -

Dr. Doom -
* Molecular Shield (Spinning rocks) - Less hits and less chip damage as the move doesn't spin as many times it feels.  Motion change to dragon punch + attack.
* Beam - Very fast as an attack and as an assist.  I ended up using this assist attack more so than spinning rocks as it comes out fast enough to interupt attacks.
* Multiple Lazers - HCB in MvC2 but its only QCB for MvC3.  Can be done in the air as well.
* Super - Multiple Lazers super.  Again, HCB + PP in MvC2 but its only QFC + AB in MvC3.  Better as a super in the air to end air combos.  Hits more cleanly I feel.  Can't figure out Super #2.

Dormammu -
* Slow and tall. Pretty much a trap based character from the looks of it and also one to use to play good spacing.  Probably heard this before but closest comparison is indeed Blackheart and probably with a mix of of Thanos.
* Didn't spend anymore time with Dormammu as I couldn't really figure him out.

Super Skrull -
* Very cool character to play as.  Simple to a point and effective.  Deals above average damage and at the same time a fast character.  Even simple A-> B -> C-> D-> Launch - Air combos - Super, deals a good chunck of damage.
* Hundred Fist Pound - Strong and fast and I feel probably one of his best move.  Just tap attack for different speed and strength.  Can be done in the air as well.  Coes out quick as well to catch people off guard (At this present moment anyway and I wasn't playing against anyone thats too good so this may be wrong).  Good for ending combos I feel.
* Spinning Flame Fist - Slow move and harder to combo into.  Can be use as anti-air if done at the right timing.  Tried doing it to end combos and it gets blocked at times.  Maybe my execution wasn't fast enough.  Can be done in the air but travels in a weird angle.  My guess different attack will mean different angles.
* Command Grab -  Good move, good range.  Looks great as well as he multi-slams the opponent.
* Super 1 - He spins towards the opponent all flamed up.  Weird super.  I can't get it to hit consistantly due to the angle.
* Super 2 - Flaming explosion of some kind.  Easier to hit as a combo and easier to link into.  If I recalled the range is only ok so best result is when the opponent is right next to you to generate full hits.

Thor -
* Only tried him once and got smashed by a mashing Wolverine player.  Couldn't really figure his moves out properly.  Slow character.  Supposingly a hard hitter but..hmmm.. didn't see any evidence of that.  After using Thor in one match I didn't feel like using him again but I am not saying he is crap.  Probably just need more dedication and time.
* Lighting Beam - Ok, it is slow.. damaging?... Doesn't seem like it.  Uhhmm.  Slow.. so slow.  I can't see how this beam can be use as a means of beam battles nor use to space the match.  I think it does go through fireballs though.  I remember I kept getting hit out of the beam.
* Command Grab - Good damage.  But again its slow.  Try to combo but its too slow to do so.  Super Skrulls command grab is far superior and faster at least to catch opponent and it may not deal as much damage but at least its more useful.

Trish -
Sorry guys.  Didn't get a good play of Trish.  All I remembered was her fireball type move.  The move isn't your traditional fireball through.  Looks like different strenght hits different space/distance.

Amaterasu -
Didn't use this character at all.

Viewtiful Joe -
Didn't use this character at all.

Chun Li-
Didn't use this character at all.

Thanks guys for reading.

Weazzy, its this video and it's been reposted quite a number of times on this site as well.  Still, it's a classic.

Not being able to play a build of this when one is in the country makes me sad. It's a good thing that yipes commentary video makes me happy, and never gets old.

I was curious about this too cause it sounds funny, had a look online and it refers to the guy on the pringles cans. I think when someone says you are pringles at marvel then it means you aren't blocking properly
