Tekken does only have 4 attack buttons as well remember. So you can claw it and have access to all the buttons easily. SF is a different story especially if you wanna pull off ultras. And the xbox dpad isn't in line, it makes it so bad when I try to play Balrog, I can't even do the dash upper...

OK, alphaism radio has recently done a show regarding T6, talking to a couple of tekken aficionados (True & Rip).

You can download it at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AXZOO7BK

In the first 3 minutes they say about 5 things I'm just going "what what? wait huh?" including:

- equating the mashability of a game to how hard the combos are to do
- stating that tekken is a turnbased game like chess (and implying this is a good thing)
- claiming that shoryukens are safe options and you don't have to think past them

Tekken players should listen to this show to get all patriotic and flame me and put me straight, and SF players should listen to this show to get all indignant and ask more probing questions.

Do it!

wut?
I don't understand that statement, but any good or proper combo will require minimal mashing.

Unless it happens to be about 10hit combos. Then good luck using 10 hitcombos for the rest of your time in Tekken :D

In a way, it is. Due to the nature of specific moves being distance crush rather than hig/low crush, etc, etc, technical woohah, to play offensively, you need to take into account of the variables/possibilites... such as, sidestep right/ sidestep left/backdash as well as the low/mid options for all those steps. But that's how I play, most people will just space out wait for you to screw up and whiff, then launch you...  :)

One of my friends said that I play Tekken like some Chinese castle building game that's like chess since I'm always going on offense and my character can cancel offense into defense and vice-versa. But I find that I suck at Chess...  :'(

It's more like a real-time version of chess TBH. But you could say there is a vision of Tekken being turn-based due to fact that it isn't really safe to spam moves to keep the opponent in check like it is in most 2D fighters e.g. jabjabjajabjabjab.

*But both statements are based on my personal experience and should not be taken personally by anyone except me*  :)

They are only a good option if you're against someone with minimal movement. Even so, some slow characters usually have a way around it (Like how Zangeif will f@rk you up if you shoryuken in front of him, which anyone should be smart enough not to do). It's almost like a compulsory game mechanics law no matter what game you play (unless it's like Megaman VS Golden Lighter, then you're better off listening to Linkin Park and slitting your wrist). :)

Yeah, I think you should actually listen to the show because I think you've misread what I was saying completely...

I sorta slowly listened to the first half hour, but I'm still not too keen on the game. Ever since I've seen that a standard combo off a launcher takes off half their health it kinda put me off. And when you get low health rage, that combo can do like 80%. Yeah sure pokes are good and stuff, but as soon as you get hit by a launcher boom, you're pretty screwed. I also feel the wake up game is a major advantage to the guy standing up. It's like playing as Sagat against Akuma's vortex. I'm starting to play a little bit at timezone, only because I've got like $300 of credit from guitar hero comps and they don't have sf4.

I mean yeah the game has skills, but I guess it's more of a reaction-based game, which isn't too bad. Just my thoughts on Tekken. (Tekken 3 is fun when none of know how to do these massive juggles and there is none of this bounce crap :))

I'll listen when I get some time :)

I am bummed that they haven't brought back 2v2 Tagging. Tekken tag was awesome.
And so is MvC2 - so i'm really surprised that nobody is making anything these days that involves team battles & tagging especially given how much everybody loves them.

Blazblue Tag , Capcom vs DC & Tekken Tag 2    ;) ;D
Would all be super hits imho
Tell me something, Billy. How come a cute little guy like this can turn into a thousand ugly monsters?

Yeah true, forgot about that one however as Weazzy said its on the Wii so it doesn't count for me :)

That's pretty much protocol in most fighting games. In BlazBlue, you can do that stuff off a normal hit that isn't even a launcher. e.g. Ragna kick, punch, etc, etc...

If you had listened carefully, they did mention how it's possible to win without full-on combos. Characters like Dragunov and Feng are mind game characters that specialise in taking out little chunks of your lifebar with individual hits, reversals and parries.

Specific charcters and conditions only. Plus while in rage, 1 little duck jab and you're practically dead... Your 80% quote is for the previous version of Tekken 6.

Tell that to Lei, Dragunov, Jack-6, Marduk, Kuma and Alisa...  :)

Good job on that.  :)

fluxcore: Just listened to the first half an hour. Those guys pretty much explained most of the stuff. I practically went into depth with those 3 statements you posted. But thanks for the post, twas a pretty interesting conversation between those guys.

edit: bonus feature

notice the postition changing by the Dragunov player so that he can maximise his damage output by using the walls?

MUMMYHALA

xpunch

i think raven is pretty good but thats just me but hes probly better than my main steve foxx.

but im sticking with the boxing brit haha he really doesnt have many low combos like other chars.

samurai black

chatting to some dude about t6...

even though the arcade version runs on what is essentially a ps3...
and it has slowdown when Raven does a certain special move
b/c there's 3 character models on the screen at the same time and apparently the ps3 can't handle it...

for reals? oh dear.

massi4h

Yeah but I've seen high level comps and I saw the international comp we had at armageddon. I saw in the last round, jack-6 poked the hell out of steve, but then got raged to death from like 60%... He had no options.
I managed to kill someone in 2 king comboes the other day. But when someone knocks me down I get pwned trying to get back up especially near a wall. I did see that a lot at the armageddon comp as well. At least I talked to the Phillipino player and he plays marvel. Didn't get to play him though.
