He's the hero NZism deserves.
But not the one it needs right now.
So we'll hunt him.
Because he can take it.
Because he's not our Hero.
He's a Niuean Guardian.
A watchful poster.

Here is some more discussion from the fellow who initiated the dialogue:

The general guidelines are no piracy/porn or out and out abuse, other than that, you and whoever else you request would moderate that forum.

The Counterstrike sub forum is a good example of how a specific community can thrive as a part of a greater whole.

Some things to think about,

How many people did you attract from posting in general gaming?
How many more attendes would you gain if GP actively backed you and had news posts and features on the main page?
How much better would your video content be if it was captured and shot in HD?
How much easier would it be to approach sponsors backed by or through GP?

Gaming in NZ is full of fairly fractured communities, to me at least, it seems self defeating when so much more could be done.

To be honest, I see jumping on GP as a way to grow the fighting game community in NZ.

I don't plan on going out of my way to push you or convince you to take advantage of an opportunity, but really, what do you have to lose other than the colour scheme of your forum?

I can certainly see the benefit in GP's name when going for sponsorships, front page news etc...

Further thoughts? I'm seriously pretty much in the middle.

I guess the main reason we're here is to expand our competitive community. You said you were talking to a normal member, if we could hear from an admin or something in GP we could start figuring out exactly what it is they could do for us. Honestly I think it's a good idea if we can get more funding and we're allowed to set the rules and restrictions.

I suppose it's not necessarily the case we'd have to go with GP either... I don't think the NZGamer community is anywhere near as big, but they claim to have links to stuff.co.nz, c4, armageddon etc...

Hey guys, I'm an admin at GP Forums and the editor of www.gameplanet.co.nz.

I'm not here to convince you to join GP, but if you can see the benefit in doing so I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Now it's easier to see what NZism will benefit from gpfourms (or any other site)

I'm now somewhere in the middle as well, as I love the idea of NZism getting more recognition from people, along with the chances of getting wide spread advertisement and maybe even being able to piggy back off sponsors connected with gameplanet to help future tournaments/casuals events.

Hey Jon, would I be a giant dick if I asked, "Why not support this site?"

It would be cool if we could get a link on the forum page that linked to here.
Also....

Hey Jon, would I be a giant dick if I asked, "Why not support this site?"

Not at all, it's a pertinent question.

There are reasons why any support has to be non-profit in nature - I'm happy to go into that if you need clarification.

As for support - we're happy to look at running gaming evenings for the fighting community, and even run these in conjunction with NZism.  We don't have a problem with posts from NZism members on our forums advertising gatherings, ladders, that sort of thing.  You guys are a specialised forum and we don't see you as competition.

Perhaps you could define the type of support that you require, and we can discuss how we can work together to achieve something mutually beneficial to both our communities?

stereomonkey

All of that sounds great.  What I meant by support was just giving shout outs to this site.  Thats all.

And again, I'm still in the middle.

What about the rest of you NZism fellas aye?
