Well, if you can't tell, I'm pretty pissed off at recent developments. I simply cannot tolerate having my integrity maligned by such people, and I'm really not very interested at the moment in contributing to their event.

It really makes me appreciate places like RvB and GPforums that *genuinely* seem to want to make things work. It's amazing what things get accomplished when that happens - and I don't feel that xlan is such an atmosphere.

I was rather suprised when GP admin came here and simply wanted to work with us for benefit of the community, I now have even more respect form them :3 Xlan officials have never really seemed co operative to me or some of my friends that have been dealing with them =/ However once SF4 is in WCG we'll probably have to deal with them in some way since they'll be wanting to use it in some way for their NZCG sheet

Fair enough bro.  I can understand that you might not wan't to go, but it won't bee the same without our fearless leader there.

What we really need is EVERYONE from this site that is SERIOUS about going to actually sign up and pay up asap, otherwise it really seems like they won't take us seriously. There are a number of you core members that haven't really indicated any interest or anything, I urge you to think seriously about helping THIS COMMUNITY put get together and show all these people what we are capable of achieving.

I definitely want all you guys to sign up and show that you're committed to coming, don't worry about my own opinions about things at the moment - if enough of you guys make the effort that will all sort itself out (aka leave the problems to me). Unfortunately I'm only one person so I really make this happen by myself, if I could I would.

its stupid, I know those xLan guys are all looking at PROFIT wise, before they even take any action.
To be honest, do we really want to get into xLan like this? I think we can accomplish even more than what they can offer to us. WE even manage to get microsoft as sponsors, why do we need them? paying up $85 and with shit or no prizes? on top of that we are struggling to get them to notice our community. I say let them have their 10 people VF5 tournament. Arg!!!

So I've had a fairly decent conversation with the Xlan honchos. While I'm not exactly ecstatic about everything atm, I think we're on the same page.

Actually it's not a profit thing, it's more of a 'not making a massive loss' thing. From what the organisers say, they don't make enough ticket money to actually fund the whole event even, so profit isn't the issue.

I don't expect to become privy to the inner workings of their operation, so I really can't comment on what the reasoning for not just announcing SFIV as a tourney is, but it appears to be more of an 'entire console section of xlan' problem than a SFIV problem itself, which they are working towards resolving hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

TBH I'm not sure how many people we'll convert by having a proper tourney at xlan, but it will certainly get the word spread out more and introduce people to it that may not have given a second thought previously. XLan is of course the biggest gaming get-together in NZ, with people coming from all around the country. Hardly a better place to have a tourney really. There is also tv coverage and many cameras (some of which focussed on Gino and myself + sticks reasonably heavily last time - we got in one of the post-event vids a number of times). Having a massive NZism flag would be pretty awesome

I can't really say anything about the prizes, no idea with that one.

So anyway, to sum up, things are kind of positive, but basically I'll be waiting for them to come up with something a bit more concrete before really being able to do anything one way or another.

Lenny and Gino have already paid, and you know they'd love to have all you guys join them. I'll probably put my money in over the next couple of days, so would be great to have you guys join us. We can run our own thing anyway, so let's just do it.

How does sleeping work?  I only live up the road in Manurewa so Im gonna go home to sleep.  Plus I snore bad and I dont want to get massacred by everyone for keeping them up.

The smell of nerd is going to be overpowering so  I will be bringing much air freshner.

I should have room for others too, so if you want to crash in a proper bed just gimme some notice.  But not with me.  You have to sleep by yourself.  Im not like that.  Honest.

There is a sleeping 'room' but you'd really rather not use it. Last year we stayed with my relatives, although this year maybe we'll just drive back to Hammy at night, dunno really. Maybe crash at some aklder's place if that's an option.

Last year the sleeping room was pretty horrible apparently, but I think they'd sorted out some air con or something for it this time. The main hall itself wasn't too bad, the place is pretty fucking enormous.
