Woooh hold on there Alan. it's not a vs debate at all one is vector based and the other raster, you can't even compare the two. Although I'm sure you know that.
They both have there own uses and compliment each other well. Most people should actually be using both. Illustrator for linework etc and Photoshop for effects, highlights, some shading etc etc.

I'm actually just trying to help people out if they're looking to improve their work.

It works differently. I have it installed on my comp at home, you are always more than welcome to come over and I can show you how it works etc to see if it's something you are interested in. I also still have my Illustrator text book from Media Design School if you want to borrow it?

It has clipping masks, yeah.
Like Geneterror was saying they compliment each other really well, and it's really easy to send images back and forth between the 2 now. If you use the 2 programs together you can get styles that are pretty much impossible with just 1 of them alone.
