Title: Recently watched...
Post by: geneterror on September 14, 2010, 12:21:59 PM
So another forum I visit has a thread like this to discuss stuff you have watched recently. Has def helped me find out about a few other movies I would never have heard of otherwise.

Watched Summer Wars over the weekend.

Really enjoyable movie, best full length anime I have seen since The girl who leapt through time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Wars it's about online worlds.

Suzannah and I laughed at one bit. One of the characters plays a virtual online martial arts game. At one point they try and set him up with some gear to play on and he demands a CRT because the HD screen has to many microseconds of lag haha.

Watchable in full on google video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2023790698427111488

One of the most disturbing movies I've ever watched. It's a docudrama from 1984 about the US and Russia getting into a nuclear war, from the point of view of a British town that is near where a nuke is dropped. Basically everything is fucked and Britain is knocked back to the dark ages. You know it's serious when every person who has commented about the movie on imdb says that it gave them nightmares 20 years ago and now after watching it again it's just as traumatic. It's fairly well based on actual scientific data, and the realism is what makes it really chilling.

It also ties in nicely with the following blog post from Fidel Castro not more than a few weeks ago:
http://www.granma.cu/ingles/reflections-i/24-agosto-nuclear.html
excerpt: http://tywkiwdbi.blogspot.com/2010/09/thoughts-about-nuclear-winter.html

Recently watched Bruce Lee's "Way of the Dragon" was OK. But the Bruce Lee Norris fight was really captivating. Finally realised where that Alpha One Birdie/Rose stage comes from.

I saw this a few years back. Holy mother fucker, this movie is brutal. Can't say I had nightmares, though back in the days of the Cold War I could imagine this movie would have peoples minds wandering :o

The ending is horrific imo.

Hot tub time machine - total rubbish
Prince of persia - ok
Daybreakers (again) - pretty cool
The expendables - ok
Date night - boring

I have the 'eden of the east' anime movie to watch soonish, the series was cool.

Richard g, you can have Rob Schneider's ugly daughter lol. I though that movie was pretty dry, considering Adam Sandler and Chris Rock were in it.

You niggaz should watch'kickass'. I honestly though it was badd. I was blazed when i watched it though. It's funny as and got mean action/fighting scenes, and the geek dude fucks this fine ass bitch in it yo.

Depends what you're into :P

Playing right now i'd say Sons Of Anarchy/Dexter/30 Rock/Community are all pretty top tier.
And True Blood but it just finished. I also have a soft spot for the latest seasons of smallville. :D
Vampire Diaries is a bit weak sauce compared to True Blood but i still watch it anyway.
[edit to add Fringe to my top tier list of currently playing. :P ]

Unfortunately i was born in England and so have a strong aversion towards most things from there. :P
(there are a few exceptions, the office etc) But otherwise i'm easy to please. Hehe

But these are the shows that i watch and have on my drive (including some that just recently ended)

24
30 Rock
Better Off Ted
Blue Mountain State
Breaking Bad
Castle
Community
Cougar Town
Covert Affairs
Dark Blue
Dexter
Dollhouse
Eastwick
Flash Forward
Fringe
Glee
Harpers Island
Hellcats
Heroes
How I Met Your Mother
Hung
Lie To Me
Life
Life Unexpected
Lost
Men Of A Certain Age
Nikita
Persons Unknown
Rookie Blue
Royal Pains
Rubicon
Smallville
Smith
Sons of Anarchy
The Mentalist
The Unusuals
Vampire Diaries
True Blood
Trust Me
V
Warehouse 13

Shows just started that i got but haven't watched yet:

Undercovers
The Defenders
Raising Hope
Running Wilde
Chase
The Event
Lone Start
Lost Girl
Hawaii Five

I dunno. I just thought there was a reason he was the one line guy that get's killed or wipes the MAIN guy's ass.

Those movies use to be cool when i was young but it might be lol shit is what i'm afraid of. All Stevan Segals new movies made me sick. Like i was the biggest universal soldier fan, and the new one's been out for ages and i just walk pass it thinking fuck that shit haha. I wanna watch that movie where Van Damme mocks himself though , that's some funny shit.
Title: Re: Recently watched...
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on October 01, 2010, 06:07:46 AM
Universal Soldier are all terrible movies. The one with Goldberg was the worst one ive seen. Apparently the latest one is actually OK in the grand scheme of universal soldier.

And Van Damme doesnt mock himself. He genuinely believes hes a good actor, and the movie youre talking about isnt him mocking himself, its him with his head so far up his own ass that it LOOKS like hes mocking himself, because he's taking himself so seriously.

that doco looks good as.  He's really hardcore as Machette, its gory as fuck.
Jessica Alba is kinda the main actress, she's too hot for me to watch it with my pants on.
Also surprisinlgy, Michelle Rodriguez is super hot in this, she's lost heaps of weight and is fly as kites.

ãƒ'レード (Parade)

This a Japanese film I just watched and it's easily one of the best movies I've seen.

The movie is full of dark humor, the main plot in this movie is constructed through several sub-stories of each of the tenants living in the apartment. This is something to watch by yourself where you're not distracted by anyone or anything.

Note: I imported the DVD of this, I'm not sure if there is a subbed version online.

Latest Harry Potter, part 1.

After watching this, and never have read the books, I'm assuming that the final book is too long for movie, but too short for two.  It's like LOTR all over again.  5 minutes, watching some kids walking.  And waiting.  And sleeping.  That sounded real pedo...

Rocky Horror Show, the stage show.  Was weird, but catchy.  Audience was full of long time fans.  Which was all good, except when they all stood up for the Time Warp, I mean, come on, yeah, you're a fan, cool, I'm trying to watch it for the first time, sit the fuck down.

Recently watched about 20 eps of Naruto Shippuden, the end eps for the Pain arc.  Was quite good and only watched them because of finishing Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Storm.  Also have to saay some of the cut scenes from the game were far nicer to watch than in the anime.  Would be nice to watch an anime in cel shaded for a change.

Also watch The Trip which was a fucking laugh and funny watching Steve Coogan act himself. Lol.  Bruce Lee my brother was a great movie.  Takes a while to get into it but is a decent flick by the end of it.  Kinda made in the same vain as Ip Man.

Currently watching Soul Eater, Monster (Cheers anime boys), Deadwood and the first season of Sorparnos.  Fuck Sorpranos is superb to watch.

It's going well and it's the kinda of anime I like too.  Not really into that Code Geass though.  Maybe watched about 4 episodes and I just didn't get into it. Though I did like watching it with the Jap commentary.

Last night tv3 had Hawaii Five-0 which was alright for a 1st episode it was good followed by NCIS: Los Angeles which is awesome mainly cause of how cool LL Cool J is lol, I prefer this one to the other one(gibb's squad).
I love watching these crime shows like Numbers, Burn Notice, 24 and Spooks which use to be on TV one and was pretty cool.

Also watched Justice League Crisis of Two Earths . A lot of these movies go under the radar which is a shame, because they are so awesome

Watched True Grit. It was a more serious movie than I first thought, but it was pretty cool. The little girl and Jeff Bridges were good, but I'm still not a fan of Matt Damon.

Haven't seen this yet, and after X-Men 3 I don't have high hopes, but I'll give it a watch anyway:

Title: Re: Recently watched...
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on April 12, 2011, 02:44:42 PM
That's because until that point, the movie is technically titled "Hobo". Adding a shotgun into the movie (and the title) instantly makes something more awesome.

Random examples out of the family DVD collection.:

Boy with a shotgun
Transformers with shotguns
Lord of the rings with a shotgun
Back to the future with a shotgun
300 Shotguns
Beverly Hills Cop 2 with a shotgun
Mortal Kombat with a shotgun
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the shotgun
Billy Connoly: Live in LA with a shotgun

The list could go on forever.

The animation looks so good, looks like it's done by the same team that did The Girl Who Leapt Through Time? Even the stories idea seem almost similar in themes?

Anyway I'll be grabbing this tonight so I'll probably watch it on the weekend.

Just saw the ending of Madoka (most hyped up anime of last season, last 2 episodes were delayed til this morning cause of the earthquake and subs just came out). Was a pretty epic though a bit funky. She became God and recreated the universe...

Oh shit, I just realised she "died" on Good Friday. Funny shit.

Saw that new Karate Kid movie. Wasn't as bad as reviews made it out to be. Although I would even go so far as to say it's a re-imagining of the first Karate Kid as it uses almost the exact same plot and even reproduces some of the same scenes. Such as the scene where he goes to the bully's gym and the teacher challenges the protagonist to a challenge there. His teacher declines and says that his pupil will take on all the bullies at the upcoming tournament and points to a poster on the wall.

They even reproduce the scene where the bad guy teacher tells his student to "sweep the leg" just before the final match.

Strange that they didn't have English subtitles for the parts where people speak in Chinese though as it happens a fair bit in the film.

Downloaded version that was supposed to have external subs?

I remember my friends complaining there were no subs for the Russian parts of Eastern Promises and they just hadn't grabbed the external subs files when they downloaded it or were watching it on a media player/PS3 that didn't support soft/external subs haha.

Watched 'Your Highness'.

Best to wait for the DVD.  Not even worth cheap Tuesdays.

Might check out Arthur on Cheap Tuesday, then Pirates 4 with my Movie, the whole time I'll have Michael Bolton stuck in my head.

Then it's Hangover part 2.

I'll give a quick sentence about each.

Holler!
