More of the same as Dangan Ronpa 1 - which means crazy characters and plot twists. I'm not sure which I like more, though the mini games (during class trials) of the second are a bit more annoying, and I had a couple of times when I couldn't really work out what they wanted me to use, even though I knew what the plot wanted of me. Absolutely, definitely, play the first one first though. And don't read ANYTHING about either game before or while playing them - far too easy to spoil something.
The series remains highly recommended.
