Following on from the successful NZism 2010 Nationals, NZism presents the final fighting game tournament of 2010 to wrap the year up.
Games:
Super Street Fighter IV 2v2 Team Tournament
Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting 1v1 Tournament
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 1v1 Tournament
When:
11 December 2010 - Registration opens at 11-30am, expect SSFII/BB:CS games to start at 12:30pm.
Where:
Giga Internet Cafe, Level 2, 65 Wakefield Street, Auckland Central
Entry Fee:
$20 per team for SSFIV, $10 per person for SFII:HF and BB:CS.
Prizes:
Cash prizes based on a pot split, 60/30/10.
Miscellaneous:
SSF4/SF2:HF will be run on Xbox 360, BB:CS will be on PS3.
All tournaments are double elimination format.
As usual, bring your own controllers as we can never have enough of these!
Rules (SSF4):
- Two people per team;
- Team orders must be decided before each match;
- 2/3 rounds per game;
- Each player must nominate one character for use in the tournament before the first game is played;
- Team members cannot pick the same character ie: no ryu/ryu;
- In this format, Player A from each team will face-off, followed by Player B from each team. If at the end of these games the scores are 1-1, a tie-breaker will be played between the winners of the first 2 games.
- Team order can be decided by the players, and double blind selection is available by request.
- Other standard NZism rules apply (button checks, pausing, etc)
Rules (Hyper Fighting and BB:CS):
- Games will be first to win 2 out of 3 rounds, and matches will be first to win 2 out of 3 games. Finals will be first to 2 out of 3 rounds for each game, and first to win 3 out of 5 games for the set
- Other standard NZism rules apply (button checks, pausing, etc)
- No DLC characters for BB:CS.

I'm pretty sure there was HF on at the ranbats 3 weeks ago (or HDR, maybe both?), by the end of the night we have three casual setups going so if heaps of people wanna jam HF I can't see why that can't be accommodated. Just need to remember that if only 2/20 people wanna play it then we probably can't do that, otherwise 18 people have to share two setups which wouldn't be very fair!
And yeah, it's basically impossible to find a date that suits everyone, even with two months notice! SSF4 will be run after HF/BB:CS so that might give you time to make it in electric! Though it'd depend when your game starts/finishes :p

Wish I could come (and I knew when the dates were going to be) but just because of work and the damn holiday period already booked out made it impossible. I had planned on going to ozhadou in december but when I checked the leave slots two months ago they were already taken. :(

Yeah, I think Mikado means different things to different people though, unless "2 chars per person" is what is meant.
We should do the most recent Japanese style which is to let each person have 2 characters. Way more fun imo.
IIRC from the last "discussion" we had on team format was that Mikado meant team 1 = player A and B, team 2 = player X and Y. Then it goes A vs X, B vs Y. If one team doesn't win both their games then the winners from each team play each other. Is that not mikado?

I really liked that format too - it also allows for a bit of pre-game yomi which seems like something a lot of our community is in to - of course, the characters should be nominated up front so someone can't play like 5 different characters and be like "nah man i've only used two - WHERES YOUR PROOF ?!"
Not like it matters to me anyway since I can't make it :(
And if there is more demand for two characters then I don't see why we can't change it. That said, all the team tournaments previous to this we've had one character only and it's worked well (easy to admin too!). Also, I think it's better to "yomi" your playing order if you want to avoid bad matchups, rather than counter picking with your back up character which I think defeats the purpose of team tournaments!

So anyway, how do you guys feel about allowing people to use 2 characters (but still still having no doubles ups)? Just adds a bit of flavour I guess and you wouldn't be forced to play both characters in the tourney.

It is not clear at this stage if BB:CS DLC characters will be allowed in tournament play, this will be confirmed once BB:CS has been released on Xbox 360.

We don't setup casual stations at tournaments. People are more than welcome to take a copy of the game and set up a casual though. its ten bucks an hour to rent a monitor etc at giga.
Squares, I'm entering BBCS and the game will only be out for a week. Don't stress too hard over it, just get the tourney experience.

BB:CS has an awesome button select. Even on the character select screen there is a selection area to open the button config, and then you just press the buttons you want. Pretty foolproof.

I already went ahead and registered them but, I have two Japanese friends down in Palmerston North who said they might be able to make it up for the Super Street Fighter IV part of the CHRISTMAS DAMAGER. Any problems with them being a maybe?
I also hope they will allow the DLC characters.... I've really only been playing Valkenhayn, if it comes down to it, I guess I'll use my substitute, Tsubaki. But either way I'll be far from ready for this, haha. Oh well, should be a laugh.

Due to the delays in the EU release of BB:CS we are going to swap to PS3 instead of Xbox360 to run the BB:CS tournament. In addition to this, DLC characters will also be banned for Christmas Damager.
Apologies for the changes so close to the event but the recent announcements regarding the release date and the DLC content have not given us much of an alternative. With the amount of people entering it should still be a good tournament!
I imagine a bunch of people don't have sticks for PS3, if thats the case then I'm sure the guys with PS3 sticks won't mind sharing them with you, given they've probably been using other peoples xbox360 sticks at other NZism events.
What's the point of swapping to the PS3 if the 360 version will be out, and you aren't using DLC anyway?
I imagine it's to do with the updates? Unless they are available from the get-go.

Just wondering, will I be able to plug in my headphones to hear the sound of the game or will it be loud enough? I use the sounds of the characters voices and hits for timing.. Probably the sign of a bad player, but it helps me. And will they be in English or Japanese for BlazBlue? If so I might have to change my settings at home to adjust.
I don't know if our setups will allow headphones+speakers playing at the same time. I doubt it. So for simplicity, no headphones.
AFAIK we don't have rules or standard settings which consider player voices. If we do I imagine it'll be English.

If it's real important to you just get a stereo 3.5mm splitter from like DSE for less than $5 and bring it with some headphones. I have a couple but can't find any atm. There should be sufficient sound though.
I'll probably bring one, if not it won't be a big deal.

Apparently there is also a HRAP3 at Giga for PS3 so we can probably use that.

Hard bro I got him dizzy the other night and so I tried to be flash by pulling off a Juri combo with two stored FBs but by the time I stored one he was already outta dizzy haha

Can we make the registration with 2 characters each (but still can't have 2 of the same character per team, ie can't have Andy pick Ryu/Chun and have Kevin pick Gief/Ryu). It would make it more interesting and most tournaments (including Japanese ones) have been doing that recently. Also is it Mikado style? And I think I'll most likely drop out of BB due to it not releasing yet on xbox.

At this point Mason, no. I can understand how neat that would be, and see the merit in it, but it's too much to police at this point, so we will just stay with the regular rules.
