Problem is that it is on the exact same 3 days as Evo. But from what I know, Telstra Clear is providing internet for steam, chat clients, BFBC2, etc. So maybe if we ask kindly we could get them to let us stream Evo. If we have matches in the morningish or later in the day, evo won't be running at those times cause of different timezones, so I think it could work if they allow us.
maybe if stu can get that top 10 place again... no way am I staying in that sleeping hall.

Somehow I dont think the prizes are going to be any better than last year maybe more fighter specific but nothing as cool as cash or anything, a trophy would be sweet. Having there stream there on the big screens going to be awesome, hopefully the overall console numbers rise then previous years due to it being a better price for casuals.
Tbh I think the prizes will be much better, but I won't get my hopes up. I'm sure at least the won't call it Street Fighter 5 this year, although with tekken they might mix it up and call it Street Fighter 6 (last year had VF5) lol.

not sure , i thought they were gunna put it on in the other room where the prizes where given out the other year in which case you couldnt see it unless you had xlan tickets.
they may show it at the front as you go in but somehow id doubt it , probably dont want people sitting down in the main foyer blocking access to the event

I'm pretty sure the main stage is free for spectators, my family have come in to watch prize giving both years without any hassles. I think spectators are allowed anywhere except the gaming area. Aight so the 24" PS3 SSFIV rig I will be taking has been true tested as lag free using it's hdmi port. Tested at both native resolution of 1920x1080 and downscaled to 1280x720.
I can expand on how this was done if anyone cares or wants to do it to their own stuff, here's the pics.

I agree - I did the same "lag test" on my TV by using the laptops screen as the baseline and I had identical results, but I know for a fact that the timing is different between my TV and the CRT I'm using now
Those results will be skewed bro - you'll need to somehow feed video to both the monitor and a CRT to get true results
You're assuming that vga or svideo OUT on high end graphics cards \ devices that are definitely lag free, can have this fast number run across to two completely different branded \ model device's IN's , AND MATCH IT TO THE .001 , and that there can still be some "Variable amount" of lag happening per device just because it's an LCD panel not a CRT, and that the numbers can still somehow be EXACTLY THE SAME.
Assuming delay was occuring, the numbers wouldn't be exactly the same. The "Skewing" would show in the pictures lol.
CRT is the EASIEST WAY of being sure you are playing lag free. A CRT is not a requirement in knowing for certain something is lag free.
The Nvidia GTX 275 in my i7 920 build is another lag free device, when a high end graphics card goes straight to a LCD's native resolution (depending on your monitors type) that can be just as a lag free as a CRT.
You've got to remember, the source program is an application that must be launched from a PC. How do you think people get their PC connected to their CRT television? That's right, their graphics cards send the image to the CRT via the Svideo or vga\rgb port (My graphics card has this, and I have a cable and a CRT, but when I know that what I'm doing is the exact same thing, I'm not even going to bother lifting that shit out of storage)
CRT will show, whatever it is given, lag free. But certainly not the only lag free device on the planet lol.
All monitors involved had Vga, Hdmi, Dvi ports, and we reversed the roles \ cabling each way to compare the hdmi ports on each device.
My monitors tested lag free:
1920x1080 on source to 1920x1080 on endpoint.
1280x720 on source to 1280x720 on endpoint (DOWNSCALED \ NON NATIVE) which was required for me as PS3 out's the game at 720p max. Meaning your monitor either has to pass the downscale test, or be 720p native.

Can someone recommend a brand of ps2(or ps3) to 360 controller converter to use that won't lag (had experience with laggy ps2->ps3 converters)? Or can I borrow someone elses converter for the time at XLan? I know a bunch of people from NZism are coming for the SFIV tourney
I don't wanna go in and have to use a 360 controller, but at the same time I don't wanna be depending on others to use their equipment while I'm there

Doesn't make any difference how much lag there is in any other device in the chain as long as the exact same output is going to each monitor. You aren't comparing the timestamp shown to anything other than the other monitor.

You need a known 0-lag monitor to compare against.

Flux will this test be good enough?
I will do it if it's required to ensure that both monitors were not experiencing the exact same amount of lag, instead of both being lag free. And I suspect that it may also make me the only person in this country with the equipment required and qualified to operate street fighter 4 on a playstation 3 + LCD panel due to the scaling tests.
I can assure you though that the high end laptop monitor shown in one of the pictures, and both lcd's.. are in fact lag free. And weren't all suffering from some mysterious magical number of anti street fighter lag due to not being the exact product perhaps posted on shoryuken though.

The giga monitors have been tested. With actual equipment, and we have exact numbers to prove that they are lag free. This is hard factual evidence that we can back up with photographs and data.
I have no idea why you are missing at the giga setup, but unless you give us factual evidence of the setup being no good, you're honestly wasting your time complaining about it and calling BS. Saying "Oh it feels the same to me" is not factual evidence.
The only difference I can think of is the fact that you are practicing on PS3, and we use XBOX360 at ranbats. I'm guessing that this could be the difference. Thats all I can think of.
I just wanted to chime in and say that after playing a number of sets on the lagless set ups at Giga last ranbats (which were the best yet IMO), I now find them superior in everyway to the regular set up I had at home via LCD etc etc. I'm now playing on the CRT at home and I finally feel like I can actually train/play the game for real.
The Lag free set ups are awesome, only took 5 matches to get the timing down, and from there it was gravy. The ability to play in real time does so much for your reactionary skills, I really can't wait for the next set against you cats at Giga. :D

Turns out, like everyone and their dog mentioned, all we needed to do at the 3v3 was play more games on the set up before hand, simple.

I do agree I do not have teh right equipment to test it on therefore I can no put actual FACTS here, you can take my words for it or not but the Giga monitors running on VGA does nto feel anything like the CRT setup I have. Which I find it funny as I would of expected it to be similar or better than the VGA setup at Giga because I was there to do the test and took the photos. The test was base on the BenQ 27 inch with teh Acer 22 inch and we found it to have around 2-3 frames difference, so in saying we did not do a proper test with them against a CRT? correct me if I am wrong here.
Either way, I am not complaining, I just feel that its a bit odd thats all. But I will try it on other CRT and see how it goes.

Pretty much. What's even worse is that the monitor selection available in NZ is pretty poor compared to somewhere like America - so we only get a subset of the low input delay monitors, which makes it even harder to get them!

From what I can see in reviews it has "almost no input lag" but a review of the P2370 says "average of 1 frame" which is a bit poo - although it's a slightly different model (P2370 vs P2370H)

After seeing my 24" LCD sit next to Scribbles 24" LED for a week I'm sold on the colour vibrancys and black levels being worth it, before you get into the obvious thickness, weight and power consumption benefits.

ah yeah, you missed the test we did versus the crt.
what we did was compare the lag of a CRT vs the 27inch benq, it was about 3 frames from memory. then from there we compared the 27inch benq vs the asus monitor and the asus monitor was faster by roughly 3 frames. so by deduction we can say the asus monitor is roughly equal to the crt. I say roughly equal because I cannot recall the exact numbers at the present time.
The only other test I could think of is to get a video camera which can record @ 60 frames a second and we output to a CRT and a LCD at the same time and compare the video camera images frame by frame. I don't have the equipment or the time to undertake such a test.

Hopefully someone can bring a spare monitor to watch it on as I'll be mostly using mine for my xbox. After prize giving on Sunday, probably finish at 3pm they said we can use the main stage to watch it. I have no idea how late it will go though, so we could possibly get kicked out.
It won't be shown on the main stage during the event as there will be constant stage matches happening.

If those test ARE correct then my monitor is 0-1 frame lag at most. So I am just wanting to varify this as our so called 0 lag setup does not feel the same. If those test ARE correct then my monitor is 0-1 frame lag at most. So I am just wanting to varify this as our so called 0 lag setup does not feel the same.
