Hey man, anyone who has only played ST twice is fairly unlikely to do well against even a rusty dude who has been playing for years. It's not an easy game to learn!
I guess the first thing is to pick a char or two that you're interested in learning. Watch some vids and see if you like what you see of the chars. Once you've done that it's easier to give you some pointers :)
I guess the first thing is of course to block more. You actually were pretty decent at blocking the crossups, but I was hitting you with a lot of jumpins and footsies that I wasn't really expecting to hit, and that all adds up a lot. Especially in ST where the damage per combo is pretty high.

My computer's being fixed atm and the only mic I have is a guitar hero mic which sounds like shit (unless there's a way to use my headset in my stick). I can sorta play on my sister's piece of cheese that I'm using atm but it's pretty bad.
Yes, you can use your headset with your TE stick when you connect it to your PC. Couple of the xbl peeps communicate that way ;)
The same works with a normal 360 controller, probably ANY 360 controller even.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago... It's almost definately a port forwarding issue - you need to have the correct ports open on your router for it to work

There's a link with a basic outline as to what you should do :)
Once you have you ggpo up and running the next step is to get vent and hook up for some games from there. Usually from 5.30pm till late is when we usuals are on. You don't need a mic either but it does help out ;)
all fixed and ready to play! is there a way to practice by yourself?
Go into the ggpo folder and run ggpofba.exe. This is what you use to play by yourself/not online.
It's all arcade ports so if you wanna practice you just put it on 2 player and fight a dummy or else play the cpu.
Download this and put it into your "cheats" folder in ggpo.

I tried to sneakilly do this on my sis computer. I got the roms , but i cant move them into ggpo > roms folder without them losing the .zip at the end. So i tried to just compress them myself when there in there using tugzip, but i think that ones shit cos i cant do it (highly unlikely its my godlike pc skills).
You's know what else i could do or recommend another FREE .zip utility. I've ragequited 10x already. I havent used emulators since i was 12. I think ive gotten more dumber.

Um, there's absolutely no reason why moving a file would drop the zipness/file extension. The only thing I can think of is that she has 'show file extensions' turned off.

I prefer a headset and if it is for only ggpo then I highly suggest to get one. You can turn it off "push to talk mode" and have it like xbl. Below are three cheap headsets that do the job ;)

Download the drivers for a normal 360 controller and they should work fine. Thats what i did, and my TE works like a charm.

To parry you tap forward on the joystick just as the opponent attacks you. (or down for low attacks)
Takes a while to get used to.

tbh i think once you got in you were awesome... your mixup was good, and you were pretty bang on with your tricks.
I think you use green hand too much, its really bad in ST and can be punished on block or whiff by most players. Your use of lariat to intimidate and hold space that you have gained was excellnt, I particularly like how you alternated between PPP and KKK to trick me into trying to punish PPP lariat which would move me closer.
I think you need to work on your pokes, try using alot more st. short, st. forward, and crouching roundhouse to move in. One thing to remember with gief is that you have a big lifebar, and good priority on cr. roundhouse, so use that to trade hits alot, especially if you can trade hits with his cr. roundhouse. Cause ater that you get to work that good mixup game you have.
Also i noticed you were mashing throw during some of the clutch situations which I picked up on. Be careful of that cause youll notice I started to land alot of frame trap sweeps on you from outside your throw range.
Get your vent hooked up dude, cause that is a massive help for matchmaking at least.

The issue is that Marvel is on the same chart as the rest of those games, when really its too godlike to even be compared.

Just got GGPO running last night.. tried a game with someone but it was REAL laggy..
Any tips for improving the performance of GGPO?

Running bootcamp on my old macbook pro core duo. Tried using my iMac in bootcamp
but my new stick doesn't seem to work with the newer intel chipsets in windoze. Mame runs it
fine in OSX on the same machine though. Ah well. Hopefully someone writes a windows driver cause
clearly it CAN work on this machine.

I think i figured out the lag.. i hadn't installed all the bootcamp drivers or directx
updates and the lag seemed much better after that!

Just played a bit of 3s against a guy called GordonFreeman12 I think. He started off with a real rude attitude and then after I taunted him after winning an epic round he got mad. "You have the scrubbiest akuma player I've ever seen"
After he said that I smashed him with a kkz finish so he went back to his main Urien. Got to the last round he had half his health left so I decided to spam heavy tatsus, he kept getting knocked down. As soon as he blocked a full one, out comes the Raging Demon lol.
He writes gg and leaves the game/room immediately. 8)
GG though he was much better than me.

Theres a mac version of it. Heaps easier to help you out on that. Your execution seems fine, just need to jump a little less and get more booms on the screen. Try and play more keepaway with your guile and try not to hit that cr. short so much. When I play Guile in ST I try and think of it like Im making an obstacke course for the opponent. You basically wanna just spam them with booms and push them away as much as possible. Against other projectilers, try neutral jumping the projectile and then walking forward a little. THen they have to risk having thier next fireball stuffed by your cr.mk, or they jump back. If you stuff thier fireball then yay! If they jump back then yay cause youre pushing them to the corner.
When you get them in the corner just boom them and cr. feirce them all day long. The odd cr. medium kick to keep them honest, and just rinnse repeat.
Its more complicated than that, but you know the deal Im sure.

Use Trillian, it's super light weight and combines all chat services into one easy to use app. Msn messenger, gmail chat, facebook chat, skype etc. It can do as little or as much as you want it to.

Game is hard as fuck to get good at man. Just stick in there and you'll get it. I have to practice up my HDR for an MM that is coming up if you want to practice with me? Find a couple of dudes and have a hardout session of it and help you with where you're going wrong.
It's also important to remember that you'll go through slumps in Street Fighter. Particularly when you are going from novice, to actually trying to implement more advanced tactics to your game. Wahat are you having trouble with atm? A good idea might be to FRAPS it or something and pop it on youtube.
Or if you want we can jump on and play some and talk over skype and I can help you out.

GGs man but stick with it! Seriously your Guile keeps improving everytime I play you. I think you just gotta be more patient when you play Gief. Guile has the right tools to keep him far away and your using them the right way imo. It's just that after a while you suddenly decide to rush me down which would cost you an spd ;D also practice blocking the crossup splashes (or better yet just flash kick!)

Hey Hook. Watched your match against toomeke and noticed a couple of things you need to work on. Mainly cr.hp for antiair wheen you have no charge and watch your sonic booms because they start to get predictable. Other than that just stick with the zoning and know what your spacing is and you should be primo :D

Yeah, i always slap my forehead when i know i should have cr.hp'd a jump or whatever. By pure instinct and
fear i block when i don't predict the jump, otherwise i flash kick if i see it coming. Bad habit i'm trying to work
on, same with the booms. I'm slowly trying to train myself to mix up the timing and speed..
Still quite clueless about zoning/spacing and how to use it affectively..

Guile tip vs Blanka. Sonic boom wait for slide attempt to go under it then mash standing lk. If you hit him out of the slide with the lk the sonic boom will also hit for 2 hit combo. Get distance right though

GGs hook - I guess if I had some advice to give you it would to try retain your ground a bit more. Backing up too much isn't good - especially if you end up in the corner all the time. Even though guile is a charge char you can still be reasonably aggressive. Other than that you pretty much have the right idea, I'd just say work on putting the pressure on a bit more.
You can use his j.lk as a pretty good ambiguous crossup after a knockdown, and one day after much much practice you can combo it into cr.lk, cr.lk, super :)

Both are good these days and have their own strengths, vent is generally the winner for "lobbies" though.. skype makes somebody start a group call, it's not as good though.

That's a known problem with HF on GGPO, and the reason why noone plays it. If you stick to Hyper/AE and only play turbo chars it works a lot better.

if you wanna play online multiplayer , load up ggpo.exe , click on someones name in the same room as the game you wanna play and challenge them . if they accept , battle for glory !!!!!!!!!!
any ping under 80ms should be playable , under 50 ms is preferable tho .

Other times the computer decides it won't have a bar of any of it and i get smashed.
You have to go into the service mode and change the speed option to "free select" if you're not on ggpo..

I used the GGPO's offline thing to play. How do I get into the free select? Or how do I use GGPO to change the settings.

You have to get to the test menu. If you're using FB Alpha (GGPO) you hit the F2 key. For Kawaks you hit the F11 key. After that select "System Configuration" and there you'll see "Game Speed". Change it to Turbo 2 (or Free Select) and then hit start on "exit" to save changes :)

EDIT: ST's AI is broken as hell. even on the easiest settings it still whoops my ass. It's so annoying how the AI could predict your moves before you even do them........ What a bastard.

You have to get to the test menu. If you're using FB Alpha (GGPO) you hit the F2 key. For Kawaks you hit the F11 key. After that select "System Configuration" and there you'll see "Game Speed". Change it to Turbo 2 (or Free Select) and then hit start on "exit" to save changes :)

According to the tier list Cammy, Blanka, T.Hawk, Gief, Fei and Honda they are... But they can be very scary chars. As a Gief player I can't stand playing against Blanka or Honda. The match up is so hard :-\ But I don't think it should put you off though, At Evo (And NZ nats!) a Gief player took it out and hes at the bottom of the tier list :D

Cammys not that bad in ST. Her hooligan can throw crouching opponents, jumping fierce is good and her drills are safer then what they are in SSF4.

Tbh I'm not surprised. I was actually REALLY surprised to see him at the very bottom when I first read it. The Buffs he got were more than enough imo. Bison's big problem is that his defense is ASS. If you knock him down, get in there and give him what for. He's scary if he's in on you, but I *think* Guile has the tools to keep him out... just a matter of learning them all and getting used to them.
No-one said the road to being a good fighting game player is easy or quick :(

He really doesn't have anything else. But honestly, if you're point blank with anyone vs anyone I would try reversal throw, it's really strong. Yeah I know if you nj it kinda beats it, I was pretty slow yesterday for some reason. I really should also abuse tick throw a LOT more in general. Yeah the timing/spacing for the crossup takes quite a bit of getting used to I've found. It also seems to be a bit different when the person is dizzied ???

As shown in Sirlins tutorial to ST that performing reversals (or even tech command throws) the best way to make sure it comes out is via pianoing. Sirlin explains in the video below.

I think maybe i was just beating you with her quick normals. In the Ryu matchup your normals were beating mine easy, but with
Chun she was too quick. Maybe block and wait for a gap in my pokes more? I seemed to catch you whenever you'd try a move if i was
on the attack. I wasn't doing any combos (too stink for that) but i'd often get quite a few hits on you in a row so i guess you weren't
blocking it out..? Then again when i did notice you block sometimes i'd abuse her quickness and walk up throw. Shrug.
Hahaha I think you're underestimating yourself. If you can pull off cancel combos (eg. j.hk, cr.mk xx hadoken) you can pull off CPS1 chains too. Execution wise, it's only slightly harder. You just need to know the timing and with your musical background I'm sure you'll get it down sooner than you think :D
I don't know Guile's CPS1 chains (ask Redtie) but Ryu's is:
cr.lk, let stick go to neutral, st.lk+hp xx hadoken. Feel free to add in another cr.lk before letting the stick go to neutral :D

Your Ryu was getting better as we played too. Was smashing my dumb deejay. If you want to get more confident doing dragon punches. what I used to do years ago when I played was do LP dragon punches from one end of the screen to the other, over and over and over. Eventually you might notice your wrist does less and less motion and it just becomes a really quick tight spazz out and then snap to a stop.
If you are having trouble doing DP's on one side rather than the other, it may be because of the angle of your hand. It can be easier to do fast DP's if your hand is almost right over the top of the stick. but I guess it's just whatever technique you practice enough at becomes the best.

Oh don't worry 002 beasts me too lol as for Gief's hitboxes on Lariat I think that's only for HF? Because in a Honda match, if I mistime a lariat against headbutt (so headbutt touches Gief's shoulders, not fists) Headbutt wins everytime. I may be wrong though :D
HF fast lariat (KKK) is totally low invincible.
This is not the case in ST.
Looking at the Yoga Book Hyper, which is for ST, Geif's vulnerable hit box is as wide as his head and goes down to just barely touch his manly chest pubes. and there is one on his feet. the box is just slightly shorter on his feet for the fast (KKK) version.
also the attack hitbox on his arm is quite a bit shorter on the (KKK) version (doesn't go as far as his fist), on the (PPP) version it extends beyond his fist.
E. Hondas headbutt hitbox is pretty huge. it's a big square that's fatter than he is, so that'd run into geif's chest bit.

For Ryu you got his combos down but you just need to learn the spacing. Know when you're too far to do his CPS1 chain and instead swap it for his cr.mk xx Hadoken. After playing you I think Ken might suit your style more ;D
I would say learn Ryu and have Sagat as a counterpick but since you don't have enough time to learn two characters I think you should just stick with Sagat imo. Sorry I don't know much about him other than how to beat Gief lol I only know that theDOORS2NIRVANA and Alan use him so you could hit them up for some Sagat strats. Also practice on an MCA stick lol

I was really getting lucky with world warrior guile for a bit there. He seems to dizzy people in like 2 hits. was fun playing anniversary edition, never really tried it before coz there's usually nobody in there. fun to match up new characters with the old ones.

It's a bit stink for me that GGPO is getting really busy now coz I have to drive around the north and south islands for a month, starting in a couple of days. Hopefully it stays like this.
Ken is basically just a weaker Ryu. Hurricane kick sucks in comparison, fireballs are slower. DP is obviously better though. It's mainly the hurricane kick that makes Ryu better, that move is fucking godlike.
-Hadoken: Ryu has quicker startup, delivery and recovery than Ken.
-Shoryuken: Ken has quicker startup and recovery, greater damage and range than Ryu.
-Kyaku: Ryu always knocks down and can pass through Hadokens now, but Ken has quicker startup and more hits.
But they are still about 60% the same. On paper, Ken is actually better than Ryu (eg if you compare overall frame advantages), but in practice, Ryu is overall better thanks to the faster recovery of his Hadoken which is the cornerstone of the Ansatsuken strategy.
Ryu's Shoryuken is no longer useful as an escape strategy when countering Ken's wakeup Shoryuken, as Ken's faster, wider Shoryuken beats Ryu cleanly, every time (eg Ken sweeps Ryu knocking him down with zero life bar remaining and times a Jab Shoryuken to hit Ryu as he's getting up, but Ryu gets up with a Jab Shoryuken, using it's invincibility and reversal properties to attempt a counter to Ken's wakeup Jab Shoryuken). In World Warrior, neither character had the advantage during a reversal/wake-up Shoryuken.
Ken's Hadoken is less effective by it's slower-than-Ryu recovery, and he cannot stand his ground in a Hadoken-fight against Ryu.

I think Ken has a really good hurricane tbh. Sure it doesn't knockdown but for me it seems that it has more dizzy potential and feels easier to combo into. The difference between their FBs and DPs are obvious so I won't go into that lol
Overall, Ryu and Ken are even imo.

Gief is so strong in HF. The only matchups that you should be finding really difficult is Blanka, Honda, Sagat and Guile imo. These guys can just keep you away all day and snuff your lariats if used in the wrong way. Against other chars you'll still find it pretty hard to get up close (if the player is good lol) but in turn your opponent will probably be finding it just as hard to even hit you. Oh and I think Gief has serious advantage over Vega and Rog. Maybe Bison too.

Yep no easy mode mash out reversals in this game :P If you d'dn't already know the best way to do it is to piano the punches. Oh and yes you can 360 in any direction :)

Unless there's something really simple with gief that works stupidly well (and I hazard a guess that it'd be KKK lariat), Vega has pretty decent tools for keeping Gief out. Yeah I agree with Alan that gief has a hard time against a good vega, Just dont get cr. roundhouse or SPD'd or it's over pretty much.
Gief also struggles against sim naturally.
Wow I can't believe I forgot about Sim lol Anyways, I guess I shouldn't have said serious advantage but I do think the matchup is in Gief's favour. One knockdown and it's pretty much game over. Sure Vega has the normals to keep Gief away but I don't think Gief will find it as troublesome as the previous characters I mentioned before (+ Sim).
But hey I'm only saying this from how I think of the matchup on paper. I haven't actually had a good go at the matchup myself lol I don't even think I ever picked Gief against your Vega Alan so we'll try it out after we train these guys for the up and coming HF tourney ;D

It's pretty fun though, really hard to get the execution down though lol

It didn't take long for you to be able to punish her super though.. i was able to trick you once into thinking i was

Luckily for me i updated part of my virtual pc and Supercade suddenly works now, where it used to just sit there and do fuck all.
Supercade seems to run really smoothly. i seem to get more frames. looks nice too.

I don't really like HF that much either. Way prefer ST but i'll play HF if others are. That's probably only because i played ST first and it

I was randomly on at the same time as ponder and he said they would just have to wait until the attackers got bored.
