Title: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: fluxcore on February 15, 2011, 08:45:41 AM
Now that the game is out in the wild, time to start a new thread with some actual info in it rather than just speculation!

And what better way of starting than with a link to the pretty awesome SRK hyper guide? Check it out at http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Marvel_vs_Capcom_3 to answer most of your basic questions!

It even answers some questions asked previously, like that during a Team Hyper Combo the point char CAN become unfrozen and move around for mixups.

And here's a pretty balanced review by Haunts of iPlayWinner (for 1up.com): http://www.1up.com/reviews/marvel-capcom-3-review?pager.offset=0

It does look nice, i'll be picking it up.
But I can't believe they left out spectator mode for online play and the challenge mode sounds a bit meh.

Still a fighting game with Arthur is all good ;D

When you get your xbox copy... lol, make sure to clear cache after installing or you might have some trouble loading demon village stage. Don't know if this is necessary for everyone but it should help those who have problems, and I'm not sure if the same problem occurs on PS3 and if so, if there is a fix.

Edit: like this ish [22:45] <joey_h> system settings > memory > then Y i think

So far I've yet to utilise the aerial exchange combo's, and I might avoid them. I've heard you can mash 360 + E/S and basically burst any direction reliably. So far I'm pretty fucking lost to be honest, but I've just been going through mission mode, see who seems fun etc. Picking up some combos for wolverine now, mostly just transcribed the trag combos, and taken one drill out in one of them to make it more reliable and easier, but getting over 600k damage with 1 meter anywhere on screen.

Haven't really progressed as far with other chars, the boring Dante combo is pretty legit so I've stuck to that, and had it kill 2 chars in one combo with x factor, so sick but stupid haha. (still lost the match to lvl 3 x factor wesker tho). Basically been dial a comboing with Doom, need to learn a loop because I'm not really satisfied with what you get from magic series air magic series super with him. Trish is the same thing, still dial a comboing into super with her. Mission 10 for her looks legit, not sure how much damage it does but there must be some sick shit for her out there.

Kind of feeling demoralised by Dante, even though when I was playing vs with him before I didn't know how to teleport or command jump, but playing with an 8 way airdash is just so nasty I don't want to be without it.

It probably pays to post this Tron infinite too;

[nico]sm13616828[/nico]

I've also had a lot of trouble against Arthur and Dormammu. I just can't seem to do anything. Also, pro-tips for blocking random Wesker spaz super? It seems like it randomly crosses up eventually, it does give you some time to react but I'm struggling atm.

wow that infinite doesn't look hard to do at all but i wonder how hard it is for tron to get opponent into corner to set that up. Stupid infinite should be harder to execute.

Block high the whole time. It doesn't crossup after the first hit if you block high but it will if you try and block low.

Keits tested this pretty thoroughly (as in, 100 times), and that is bullshit. He said it worked 33% of the time, about what you'd expect from random chance.
Note that it's also a weighted Rock/paper/scissors game, so if you think they are going for meter, choose DOWN. It's explained in the srk wiki hyper guide.

Also chuckk, you can embed nico vids using the 'nico' tag - just put the sXXXXX in between the tags. There's a little box on the input form for it (the white tv next to youtube)

SO AWESOME

Awesome! I was really hoping they would do that. Makes so much sense with the Marvel characters especially cos everyone has their favourite version. Finally some classic Wolverine.

EDIT: SF1 RYU!!!!!!

Still working out the best button map. This actually feels like one fighting game that might actually benefit from playing on a pad.

Yer bro, my mates are owning me on pad.

The thing about new fighting games i always have trouble with is learning how move, the mobility is hard for me.

I just dash forward into random shit all day. Throw an assist then dash forward gets both of them owned haha. My mates are random super mashers and they wasting me lol.

ALSO! How do you use Sentinal? After trying to zone with him my mates just jump across the screen and start fucking me up. How to get them off of how to AA them?

Haha wat? Just jump back H? Or jump back M or something for AA? OR are you just trolling Jack you kieeennnt.

How do you wavedash? I'm doing it like Tekken, or is there a better way?

Yea, Marvel will give you some trouble against mashers at the start for sure. His exchange has super armour on it. Thats basically your 'get off me' button. Just use it sparingly. 'Spam boot with sent' kind of works, but not until they start blocking/forcing a whiff, and then supering you in the face.

Use Advancing Guard to get them off you, it will push them back giving you some breathing space.

Jack mean use st.H as it has super armour. So if they are rushing you down you can take the hit and launch them into MAD COMBOS!

I'm guesssing in mvc3 you press all three attack buttons to dash (in MVC2 it was both punch buttons). Use that instead of double tapping the stick. That pretty much gives away how to wave dash and tri jump  ;D

Dude I have no idea whats going on in t his game. Everytime I move foward the comp reacts with a super, everytime I block I just get thrown. If I walk over they rape me, If I dash it takes too long to recover. I am so confused lol

I love this game. I've played a couple matches and got rolled, so much fun though. Currently working through mission mode for everyone, some are easy as (super-skrull/Viper) some are nuts as hard (Dante has to many moves lol)

Keen for getting my ass kicked tonight if anyone wants some casuals, I need some tutoring as.

Post by: geneterror on February 17, 2011, 02:13:41 PM
Haha you need to get your head around the fact that it's not "punch" and "kick" anymore though just different attack strengths. Not too hard for those of us that have been playing Blazblue for the last few months.

So I try a player match under the assumption that it won't count for anything. It was kind of close but eh I dont know what I'm doing. Find out at the end that it keeps a record of it anyway. So really, unless you want to have a horrible record online there is no way to practice with other people?

But then you fool people into a false sense of security, when you start being good, you have a whole heap of losses, they think you're scrub, BUT YOU RAPE THEM WITH YOUR 20% WIN RATIO!!

Just realised that don't work, cause they also show your current win streak, even if you stop playing and turn off your machine, when you next jump online, it'll still say your on whatever number of win streak.

It's awesome :)

lol if only. Just kinda bummed that its going to be counting me from the get go. I honestly don't know how to learn the game other than just playing around in training mode. Missions give you like 1-2 levels of basics then they go into long strings of combos, while not hard, just require memorization.

My main problem is I don't know how to hit people. My moves seem to whiff, and when I try get close the enemy always hits me first. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I walk up and try block but eh just not working for me

At the moment I use Deadpool, Weskar and Arthur. I just zone with Deadpool and Arthur and Weskar comes in for the combo damage lol. It beats very easy comps :)

Assist 1 is the most weirdest button to press and I keep hitting heavy for assist.  Doh.

Wesker is fun and Dormammu is kinda cool though kindy gets in some uncomfortable spots.

Sent feels like mvc2 super godlike version.

Awesome game :D

If you get about half a screen away then dash, she flys up above Wolverine and you just hit M>H fast when your near his head. That's how I did it anyway. Not sure if you can do it from regular jump in.

I like using dash > crouching short then launch... Air combo into Ultra

I use pretty much the same Air combo across all my characters as It's easy and does good damage.

How long can you juggle in Air for anyway?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but what button config do most of you have on joystick?

A B C
D 1 2    ?  Is this the type B layout?

Has anyone tried

B C 1
A D 2 ?    I'm considering going with this as MVC2 habits are hard to break, but at the same time I also wanna play the most common layout, so have to change buttons less  ???

Having so much more success with keep away characters

Every time i try to rush down i lose to people who look like they are mashing
Right now my rush down team is morrigan spidey doom since both morrigan and spidey have instant overheads

Was trying pheonix but one mashed anything by the opponent and she dies

Its funny playing this after so many years of mvc2 i still hit wrong buttons such as assist 1 for launch with sent or hp for assist

Also how are you guys finding the online? the match making seems weird at the mo sometimes i cant find anyone in ranked or player

Haggar lariat assist is so good

I was using:

thor
phoenix
hagar
My whole game plan was to use thor for meter gain with d,d+H and use hagar to get guys off me to do it

Every time i play without sent i feel as though i should have him especially if the opponent has him and uses xfactor

I also found with phoenix if you activate healing it looks as though some moves eg weskers super did no damage will have to test this more though

Edit after a quick test it looks like healing lessens the damage by more than half so weskers phantom dance did 1/5 of a meter damage (bad move to test tho since damage varies so after testing amaterasu super it did about 1/5 with healing and about 2/3 without so around 250k without and 100k with)

Well you are a lameass dirty spammer in general so yeah :P

Man, hitstun from j.H and j.S is enormous, and hitstun from L is miniscule. I don't think I've ever had to press L->M so fast in any other game.

I can't imagine wanting to play VS anyone for quite some time. I too am suffering from 'auto mvc2 input' syndrome.

However I was playing it solid from about 6pm till 11:30 last night, and woke up this morning with various ideas in my head that I couldn't stop thinking about -_-

So even if I don't play vs this game is still fun. Doing Sentinel's missions had me laughing out loud

What's up with his missions? Are they stupid or something? Farkk i need to crack that 100% crackdash Neo combo. Looking perrty mint.

I'm just learning BnB sort of combo's so far though. Like Sents other combo and Dante's normal gdlk combo.

I'm gonna drop akuma for Magneto. Cos my Akuma sux balls. He get's owned all the time and is just there to fill up my team lol. Magneto has no black colour though!!! WTF is up with that. Messing up my teams coulors and sheeiitt. He got two of the fugliest colours i've ever seen put together in an outfit!!! They want nobody playing Mag i'd say.

^ Agree. Playing Aussies and Americans is almost the same in terms of how slow it is... Also had a guy rage quit on me twice in a row he tried to faggot me out with Mag/Arthur/Sent, but I just rushed his shit down, I had X23/Dante/Sent against him and I just needed to call Sent then hop/teleport over to the other side and free combo.

Has anyone tried

B C 1
A D 2 ?    I'm considering going with this as MVC2 habits are hard to break, but at the same time I also wanna play the most common layout, so have to change buttons less  ???

I think i might start using this lay out but soon i get my PS3 .........(*_*)...

because this one it suit MVC2 old school player to goes like this at start up :

Tab A+1 at the same time or
Tab A+2 at the same time

like MVC2 lp or lk + assist 1 or assist  2 at the same time ( old school player should know wot i meant )

Because im having hard time when i use Beta button when u press A+1 So hard( because the 1 button was in the button middle( which register as old MVC2 button as HK button instead  )  . As A+ 2 is still easy .

Here goes like this :

X= Hold Button ( when pressing )

X M H                                                           X M H
S X 2 ( A+1) Is hard to press same time     S  1 X (A+2 ) this one is ok

U know wot i mean ?  ??? ::)

I'd say it very much depends on which chars you're using. Some of them utilise the S button for various different special moves, which I think would be kinda annoying if S was in the MK position... I'm thinking Viper for one.

Yea that's exactly what I thought. But then I realised that only helps if the A button does medium attack too  :'( Rather than A+1, B... etc   confusing  ;D :P

I like the B button layout personally.. in general it feels weird not having kicks, especially for executing some of the special moves, but i guess it really simplifies learning different characters moves a lot.

I've only played offline so far, but man Sent is a beast. I can't see me having a team without him, he looks so cool and seems quite well rounded too. Kind hoping he doesnt turn out to be imba in the long run so hes not seen as a lamer

Only got up to his level 7 mission yesterday, but now I saw in videos that the rocket punch is quite delayed in that mission, since its an OTG attack. Makes more sense after seeing it done, I kept trying to do it in the air. It's a pity there doesnt seem to be any playback function to show the combo in game before you try doing it, I think I saw that in a tekken game. Lots to learn in this game, still havent even used X factor or an aerial exchange yet. lol

Yeah it's like a lot of reviews are saying the game itself is awesome but the modes/options are pretty shit really. No replays, I mean c'mon.

Things I would like to see happen/change:
The option to see the computer do the training missions.
Replay saves...when someone smashes me I want to go back and watch it to see what I was doing wrong.
I hate the button config menu, make it like HD Remix/MvC2.
Put the button options on the character select screen, especially with a game that has more than one layout but no common one. At least let us choose A, B or C layout at the character select. This is going to be horrible for tourneys as everyone sets up their button every game.
Spectator mode for online lobbies.
If no Spectator mode then at least let me use training mode while I wait for my turn.

Basically Capcom go and look at Blazblue's menu/options/story mode and go sort your shit out :P

One thing I do like is the option to save 3 preset teams so you don't have to keep rechoosing everything after each match!

Also you can just play training mode and have fight request on not sure what it is like tho

Dear Capcom,

Please patch the following into this game.

- Make it so that Sentinal's frying pan does not bounce the opponent on hit, but instead gives them a hard knockdown
- Make his launcher punishable on block
- Tone down damage on lvl 3 X-Factor
- Make it so that people can use thier X-Factor as a combo breaker, but in using it this way give up the buffs that come with it
- Make it so that I can watch other people play in a lobby

All in all this game is super fun as hell to play, but it does get a bit "dumb".  I think the above things would help it heaps.

And they said that the netcode would be amazing as long as you keep it in the region. Liars!!! It's shit in the region. But i was playing some dudes from the states that were beast as, and it was the same lag as playing the Auckland boys hahaha. Might actually try get on one of those special PSN streams they do over there.

Fuck i keep getting confused as to which char is at which assist.

There are no infinites afaik. Some characters have 'loops' but because of hitstun decay, you can only get 2 or 3 reps.

I spent about three hours on thursday night trying to infinite sent

thought i had it with phoenix but that weird hit stun is strange to the point it looks like a combo but is not

I also tried out akuma but i did his old mvc2 style infinite j.L, j.M, j.M light medium  hurricane

but what is desk using in his vid is it jump L xx H hurricane(so it hits on way up and down)

I bet Dante will be top tier. He is bloody awesome. Setups left right and centre. I been thrashing that hook thing that grabs them and fuck it's so easy to set up combo after that lol. I don't know how safe it is though. I bet it's unsafe as hell.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: Chuckk on February 19, 2011, 02:16:02 AM
Alright so there's that one there too haha.

Most everything else labeled an infinite by some idiot is only a loop and it is not repeatable for eternity. I also think Super Skrull's loop can be done enough times for 100% damage without x factor, can't remember the video link or whether that's a fact, but if so add that to the list. From what I remember the timing is difficult but it's only like 2 moves, so it doesn't suffer from hit-stun decay badly.

Na he's doing just straight up tatsu on sent. That works in mvc2 but I find the lp, mp, hp, tatsu way easier.

I just tried doing it and was getting around 30 hits but I have no way to set it up properly yet.

So yeah on Sent it's pretty much instant air tatsu. Gotta get 4 hits.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread

Does akuma have an instant over head? and can you combo from a magic series or something into a jumping tatsu to get the hits? otherwise I guess obviously you could hit it off an assist if it tags sent, like tron bonne fire or something.

And does anybody know if Phoenix is vunerable when she comes back as dark phoenix and does that explosion? Cos this dude i was playing went dark Phoenix and i accidently team supered (stupid command) and wasted her whole life bar. It was awesome and looked like i planned it. Yeah that's silly, but if you set language to ENGLISH in the filters it should get rid of them, it did for me anyway. Instant overhead pretty much just means a fast overhead so a rising jumping move usually counts. Generally something that's hard to block high on reaction.

You playing Akuma too Mason? You learned that combo wich starts with L,m,h,f.H, dfdp? Fuck i just learned his dfdk BnB (finally) and saw that one. Was like 'aw fuck' lol.

You better not be playing Dante too kieeent. Have the same fucking team as me and half the player base lol. They so popular these chars. Luckily mine are  the standard beasts on PSN.

I honestly think the meanest team would be deadpool/sent/Phoenix. I might try it. These are the hardest chars i've fought anyway lol.

edit: OMG fuck fucking dark phoenix in the fucking ass the bitch is too broken. Can't even move she kill whole team so easy. Her shit life means nothing when you can't move. And only way to beat her is to get a lucky random super. ANY TIPS YO!!!
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: massi4h on February 20, 2011, 04:42:09 AM
Of course I'm playing akuma, not sure if he'll be on my main team yet though and yeah I can do that combo but the range is right off unless you're in the corner or you can hit confirm c.a, c.b to f.c it just feels weird. Not playing Dante just mess around with him now and then I just play him like Marn in the really old videos, don't even know half his moves.

And Dark Phoenix you just need to hit her lol. Stop doing random supers unless they have invincibility or you can safe DHC. So many idiots just waste like 4 bars of super with Dante by shooting out 4 jackpots in a row wtf. But na you just gotta hit her man or chip her before she x factors. When I was playing Alan yesterday in one of the games he had Phoenix vs my Sent. I got a launch into 3 hit combo and she died and turned into D.Ph. I fell to the ground and somehow landed on the other side. Pushed launch and killed her in another 3 hit combo lol.

Yer that's what i mean you have to get something on her randomly. Chipping her before she use x factor is pretty random. So many things can go wrong. Yer Dante million dollars is so unsafe. I don't do that shit. And 'just hit her' is pretty fucking hard when she lock down  mix up your ass and kill you before you can do anything. Then you next char come out she do it again. Only way i've beat her was by doin random supers. After she throw fireball and i wait for teleport of something and just super. She can throw out a random Big bird thing to kill you if you try a random super too.

I was lucky enough to see Ricky Ortiz and Fillipino champ play a bit today. Ryan and Ricky think it's always going to come down to phoenix vs phoenix. Ricky doesn't like it and doesn't think he'll pick it up sadly. FChamp is going to play it but still have ssf4 as his main game. FChamp thinks it still fun though.

I'll try and upload some casuals if I get the chance. I'll set it on link only for you guys. Dunno if it was John Choi or Ricky vs Ryan that I caught on video.

I still haven't had more than 10 games or so even. Just liked using Aurthur as the last guy on my team and ghouls and ghosting people to death ;)

Well if you got a good mixup character like magneto you can try snap her in then jump at her and kill her in a basic combo before she has 5 bars. Could work with akuma maybe. I haven't seen a good one yet so I dunno what she's really capable of. Also with like akuma instead of mashing a random super, mash an uppercut and cancel into air super lol. That's much safer. Should be possible with others just gotta find what moves are invincible.

Haha that's a pretty good idea with Akuma mash uppercut. I didn't know mash DP was any good in this game cos don't know the properties of anything.

CAn you snapback any char out? And is hard tag more safer in this one then Mvc2. Cos it's hard to punish sometimes. Especially the dog. And it's a pretty good strat to just hard tag out ay lol. If your feeling it you know.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: massi4h on February 20, 2011, 11:12:51 PM
Akuma's heavy dp is invincible all the way up and combos into air super off the second hit. And when you snapback the assist button you push determines which assist character it pulls out. Actually I don't know how viable that is gonna be on Phoenix cause she could just hold her assist button down as shes coming in and teleport and then instant tag. Tags aren't safe but you pretty much gotta see them coming to get a full punish or else the best you'll get is a full screen super to punish.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: [NIUE] weazzyefff on February 20, 2011, 11:58:12 PM
Yer i know ay. Hard tags are almost safe the way you just throw it out there and the other guy like 'oh shit, aww fuck'. OK that other guy is mostly me. I try not to do it cos it's not safe. But after seeing it done by pro players and shit. I'm starting to think oh fuck it. I'll abuse it while people aren't clicked on yet.

It sucks how you can't air combo them if they super jump. I've been thrashing super jumps and drones. Feels gdlk as lol. Then stop and watch them super nothing lol. Use the mint dive kick Akuma and no hit, sj again lol.

Played this for the first time today. I had it turned on for about 10 mins and started with the missions before Rory invited me to a game. He smashed me for like 3-4 games then left, so i went back to the missions. Got up to number 10 for wolverine but i'm just too retarded to time the player 2 assist and get it to combo. Gonna try the other char missions hopefully this week and try find someone i like that way. Trying to actually put a team together at the moment seems pointless. Playing Rory i just chose the random char select option and mashed moves the whole time to see what moves they did. lol.

The game can recognise 3 (4?) directions at once, this makes for some mega stupid option selects.

Should "hitbox" controllers, keyboards, control pads, etc, anything other than a standard arcade stick just be banned?

edit: it definitely recognises 4 directions at once, and pressing left+right on a control pad with the pad+stick automatically blocks overheads and crossups. However it doesn't look like you can OS escape air exchange combos...

MVC3 - General Discussion / Re: PSN - Post match feedback
« Last post by CoolzInferno on Today at 01:36:07 AM »

Just a thought, but if we all set out language preferences to some sort of strangely distinct language (like Polski, Italiano, Francais, Korean...) and decide on that as a universal for the forum, we could probably set up Ranked matches between us since I believe the system would only match up people who have also chosen those settings.

The problem then would be just not being able to get a game at all with people who are totally unaware of 'the code'. Assuming there were an organized time where everyone would play ranked, this would probably help avoid playing a million random Singaporeans and Malaysians thouh.

In general I think with most of those combos the trick is to press the assist at the same time as the button preceding it in the combo. That's certainly how a lot of those combos worked in MvC2, and so far has been my experience with MvC3 as well.

yeah that's true alan. I was trying to figure it out yesterday and it seemed to work for the few assist combos I tried to get.

It looks to me as if the region setting for ranked matches is based on a more global scale, so we are in asia pacific or something, unlike street fighter where it is based solely on country. I think it's quite good because we get to play both kiwis and australians without having to change our country in the xbox settings.

Doesn't seem to work with this particular combo..
I think because you have to time the assist after launching the opponent, doing M M H S in the air and then the assist has to come after you've both hit the ground?
Timing must be quite tight which is why i suck. I still don't understand how people can do one frame links reliably. That's WAY more accurate with timing
than even the BEST musicians in this country i've ever recorded.  ??? (a large part of my recording day would be to typically shift timing and make it more accurate
in music.. haha)

Anyway, i'll keep this tip in mind for other combos, but does anyone have any hints on this? Just accept defeat and move on? LOL.

Do your air combo slower so you're closer to the ground and can call your assist faster.

I can't guarantee it, maybe mine's defaulted to that for some reason, but both of the 2 times I've been online, and then gone to training mode, it's been set to 4 bars not 5. So keep an eye out for it at least.

And yeah Mason storm forums are ass. All those combos they post are the same shit and I think the bnb lenny suggested does more damage than jc MMH.

Bro you want me to post up your scrubby questions in the Akuma forum? I've kept quiet about them for you lol.

@Flash, pretty much use whatever looks like a bnb. I usually go for the best damaging combo but when online usually go for easier ones. Like I can do those fancy x-23 combos but with online lag it's almost impossible for me so I usually just go magic series to launch to bbc dive, otg ankle slicer.

A lot of trag's combos are very execution based and really situational, alot of them have extra flash in rather than damage, so really you just wanna get down your strongest combos from the corner and midscreen per character, get familiar with those (pretty much dial em in whenever you hit confirm) then start using other setups that might give mixups or whatever, but yeah I generally stick to mildly basic bnbs and add a bit of fancyness if I need to.

Oi I never said it had any invulnerability I just said it's good for getting in on Deadpool then said in the next post it has some startup. I guess I better go away with it now, Akuma's teleport has a 14 frame vulnerable startup (dumb) but it does have an only 4 frame recovery and is super cancelleable the whole way through. Still both Akuma's and Dante's teleports aren't fast enough to punish a dumbass fullscreen Dante super.

It bounces them off the ground. from which Haggar can do half life on most characters using no meter.  You do it by jumping and pressing down+C.

Haggar is the anti rushdown.  Hes not bad, but gets zoned out pretty easily.

Another amazing online tactic with sent is drones over and over

Easy as shit to get out of off line but its like throw breaks on sf4 online

Also whats the best character for meter building I have been using thor d,d+H with hagar lariat to get people off me but there must be a better way to do it than that

Stop playing like a scrub then :P. No point trying to smash sentinel when he's just eaten a bucket of KFC, just block and turtle, run away, don't call assists. Block, push block, he'll eventually get hungry again but won't have any more money for KFC, then you can pewpewpew him.

Yeah his chip is ludicrous in xfactor though.

Try to save your xfactor as long as possible. Then when the time is right, UNLEASH YOUR OWN LVL3 XFACTOR SENTINEL!
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: Barnstorm on February 22, 2011, 05:13:02 PM
even without xfactor cr.m or s randomly to combo then xfactor usually means 2 dead characters and 1 chipped to death

i always save my xfc but its not that usefull to chip with my team so i almost always take 1 cr.m/s to the face

Its even harder online trying to block sent hi/low when they just jump at you in the corner
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: Rorooze on February 22, 2011, 05:15:39 PM
Yeah the chip is crazy but if you still have three characters and he has KFC sentinel left then i'd be happy to lose one character to chip if he loses x factor.

I agree. Sent with x-factor lvl 3 is just a constant struggle and if you are hit you are dead. One thing I recommend is try to catch him when he is out as an assist. Lots of people like to spam assist with him (even me). I have caught many a sentinel on assist for massive damage. Then when he does come in he is quite low. Also remember he cannot x-factor till he hits the ground so on his way in sometimes I beam him with akuma dhc to storm and can kill him with chip before he x-factors.

Not pointed at anyone in particular, and definitely not meaning to push the ending notes of 'stop crying', just the actual examples and comparisons in the rest of the text.

His GT was JUSTIN BIEBEER. Pretty much he has a massive lag switch forcing our game to make every 1 second in the game about 10-20 seconds in real life no joke. The game couldn't even read any special moves from me I had to slow down my inputs really slow and still nothing would come out. He starts out with Arthur and runs to one side at the start, then keeps throwing that axe at me and I pretty much can't do anything. Just before he won the connection dropped lol. Honestly I want this faggot banned, he's got a 50 something to 9 win/loss ratio and the thing is you don't wanna quit against him or else you could be soon put into the ragequit bin and not have anyone to play with.

Yes I'm mad.

Interesting read, although could have easily been summarised as;

the designers wanted the game to be easy for noobs to give them a chance, dont worry pros will win anyway, stop whining and let everyone figure out the game before claiming how broken it is.

I think the examples of imba in other games he uses are bad, because he implies that they were intentionally made that way. But IMO stuff like 6 pool and noob tube are just stuff that is difficult to predict that they would be too strong, or if they are made weaker it can make them pointless or affect other aspects of the game.

I think XFC is the biggest question right now with the game, and to me it seems too strong, partly because level 3 is so strong, and partly because damage is so high in general. The characters themselves will get worked out, and maybe some of them do need balancing, but that is fine in itself. I kind of wonder whether XFC should have been defensive only, giving immunity to chip, regen, and the potential to use it to interrupt, or maybe super armor.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: LN on February 23, 2011, 11:20:08 AM
I don't see how noob tube could not have been noticed as considerably potent, unless absolutely 0 field testing was done... but yeah, you're not wrong.

Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: massi4h on February 23, 2011, 12:19:04 PM
Well CoD tournaments don't use perks and attachments anyway so noob tubes are just for online casual pubs which I don't see a problem with anyway. People can cry about your noob tube but then you kill them and then they lie on the ground and bust out their pistol and shoot you or they get a chopper. But yeah good article.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: LN on February 23, 2011, 12:49:45 PM
It's not like the game came out and the competition ruleset was already defined with only basic perks like bandolier, it had to be determined at some point. Sure NOW you can say 'oh that's only on pubs', but 1 week after game release it wasn't the case.

Noob toobing isn't even that imba. Yes, I hate it with a vengeance, but it's kinda like quick scoping. If a whole team of tubers / quick scopers verses a whole team just playing normally, more often than not the second team would win. It's not really going to give you too much of an advantage, you're just not playing the game fairly or in a way that the designers intended.

Toobing is just a cheap dirty kill (or with scavenger or one man army (mw2) constant cheap dirty kills), and the main reason why it's so annoying is because in a 1v1 when you come up against a tuber, with lag etc etc, he'll just 1 shot you and blarg, there's your streak gone.

But back on topic, Wesker seems hard to use. Just scrub mashing and doing the noob LMHS jump LMHS etc kinda stuff doesn't work well.

I think the biggest issue with the noob tube is that it is attached to a assault rifle because its at least 2 kills with the tube then what ever else you can get with the gun

World at war got it right by only being usable on a semi auto gun

Also have you guys seen this last match around 44min this is the kind of thing i was talking about with sent and your in the corner

Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: massi4h on February 23, 2011, 02:25:26 PM
OK well Julian, first of all air combos are almost always best using mmhs rather than lmhs. But basically a good standard combo with Wesker is c.l, c.m, c.h xx ghost butterfly xx l teleport, (m, h,) s, j.m, j.m, j.h, j.s or maximum wesker. If you end with j.s you can otg with df+h and either cancel with a teleport for mixups or throw it out with an assist then combo into maximum wesker or level 3. Dante's assist works real well for this, other assists mainly only work in the corner.

Also that Wesker video is pretty boring, but it gives you a rough idea of what he can do. I've found he's actually one of the most tame when it comes to combos - he's quite linear and doesn't have anything awesome like jump cancelable or dash cancelable normals.

yeah i don't know wtf is up with akumas hurricane kick but i get smashed by that shit so often online.

dog's rushdown is infuriating online as well, mash f+h and you get so much free damage. dog doing that + akuma tatsu assist is annoying as well. if i get stuck in the corner against a dog i just block as much as I can, push block after the assist finishes then make an escape. or push block then use an assist that gets shit off you like haggar lariat. I've changed from storms hurricane to her lighting uppercut thing to help with this.

So what's the deal with the titles on license cards before online games? Mine says Beginner. I've finished arcade mode on very hard, I've smashed multiple people online (not ranked) but I'm still a beginner. My win ratio is 75% or something.
Some people have titles like 9th Iron Lord or some crap, I go to play them and think "damn this guy is gonna be good" only to find out that's not the case at all. Why am I stuck with Beginner?

I love how this game online makes people rage like nothing I've experienced in SSF4. I get ragequit on a fair amount, hell even by people on my friends list haha. People trying to preserve their "good" win ratio in ranked. Faster game makes people get frustrated easier too I guess... Maybe maining wesker isn't helping. Either way, all the above makes me laugh.

This game has a hidden system whereby people that ragequit too much get flagged as ragequitters and can only play other ragequitters until they stop doing it.

Unfortunately most of the time you're lucky to find even one person on ranked or even in lobbies within our region at the moment. Dunno if ragequitter hell is a good thing for us yet, depending on how it works.

Yer hard. I know what you mean with nobody wanting to play aswell. I had this problem the first week this game was out. I think they were all training.

It doesnt take long to learn a team in this game. They probably learning all the chars or something. Took me two days to learn what i still know to this day with my team (Dante/Akuma/Sent). THe rest came with actually playing and learning matchup strats.

Add the guys from this forum and hopefully it will help you get the quantity and quality of games you are after.

Yeah something's messed up with it. I can leave it for 3 hours waiting for ranked from like 9pm to midnight and not ever find a ranked match. Got no room for friends but if any of you guys see me online through someone else's friend's list (Lenny, Blackstar, Gino, Fluxcore, couple others) chuck me an invite.

Yer ranked find all the laaggiest matches ever. I get ranks pretty good. From just trying over and over till i get one. But i left it cos it was too lag. Atleast i got rid of the shitty beginner title lol. I think fighter sounds better than 7th lord anyway haha.

If you just go search lobby and have the region on any. You can just go by how many bars they got. And most of USA is 4 bars which is obviously the best your gonna get if nobody from your region is playing.

But yer, just play people on your friends list. I'll ask like 7 people over and over before sombody actually wants to play me. So make sure you get heaps of peeps.

This game sucks online though. SSF4 as really fucking good compared to this shit. You can't block heaps of shit on reaction. It took me a while to notice. But i'll badly be blocking for like half a second then see my guy get hit like wtf.

Find an instant, long range super. Smash the assist. When you discourage them from calling an assist to help them zone you out, it becomes a lot easier to fight keepaway, since they cant effectively cover as much of the screen.

Turtling? If theyre just sitting there blocking, then you should be able to beat them with damn near anything tbh. Elaborate a bit on what you mean by this. Are they waiting for your rushdown, then calling haggar and smashing you? Or by 'turtling' do you mean playing keepaway/runaway?

haggar assist doesnt hit low tho, so maybe get in low at the end of his spin and use a ranged assist of some sort to cover your approach.

Just blocking. It seems all I can do is try and throw them but that doesn't really do that much damage. If I rush down they can easily block my aerial attack set ups. It really feels like I'm missing something really obvious.

Pick magneto and rush them down. And chuck in akumas tatsu assist. There you go, now they can't block lol. Or depending on your team you could try set up unblockables. If you have a low assist practice timing something in where you maybe go jab+assist then jump and do an overhead and see if they hit together. But really just blocking alot isn't very effective in this game imo. So hard to block some things and if you're not attacking then how can you do any damage. Generally you need characters with more mobility to get in though. You don't wanna try break their defense with say Ryu/Chris/Thor.

I've only really played some friends that don't play fighting games who just mash so far, but what i found worked on them was having some
instant assist that lasts a little bit to make them block.. if they block high i crouch attack and get the feet into combo, if blocked low overhead into death.
Works on scrubs who are worse than me (and i'm fucking useless), prob on no one else though. LOL.

That's really useful advice. I don't want to have to pick a specific team just to beat a certain type of play.

Also the characters I don't really use a specific team. I use a combination of about 6 characters.

What characters are you using?  Cause that will effect heavily how you will deal with the projectile spam.

It is also highly likely that certain combinations of characters are just plain shit, and you will likely have to change you're team.

Who do you use and in what order/teams?  Can't really tell you much till you say that.

Someone just down backing in this game will get blown up pretty bad.  Just need to know which characters to learn what to do against it.  Alot of characters can combo from throw for good damage too, so yeah, just need to know the characters to help a brother out.

I can play a couple of those characters.  Will post some thoughts.

Arthur:
I play Arthur in my main team, and TBH I deal with projectile spammers by spamming my own projectiles.  I tend to find that one on one, no one else can beat Arthur in a projectile war.  He does massive chip damage on his moves, including his super (Goddess bracelet).  Have you worked out which ones are effective for which projectile spammers?

Daggers (QCF+L can throw three by mashing L)
His Bread and butter projectile does good chip, and controls alot of space.  Stops any advance along the ground, and if you do them off a normal jump he can control a shit ton of space.  Basically use these to push them back and maintain your spacing.  Beats all regular projectiles but loses to some of the stronger beam attacks.

Lances (QCF+M can throw two by mashing M)
All non-super beams and projectiles lose to this.  The first lance will eat the beam and the second lance will hit them.  Similar to dagger with a slightly larger hitbox and slighlty more startup.  If youre against a beam character, and you manage to dodge a beam then use this to win the projectile war.  Once you get two of them out you can keep spamming them to make people stop beaming you.

Scythe (QCB+M)
Throws a big-ass scythe.  Once it is out it will travel through beams and projectiles and hit the opponent.  So its a good way tto get them blocking, or hit so that you can start winding up your lances to stop them beaming you.  Also, if they aren't beaming when you throw it you can throw three daggers afterwards and hit confirm into goddess bracelet for 400k.  Controls alot of space, and gives you alot of advantage after throw it.  Think of it as a sonic boom that eats other projectiles/beams.  Just be careful though, as if you get hit on your startup it won't come out.  It also gets eaten up by supers so be careful of that.

Crossbow (QCF+H)
The jump crossbow bolt hits forward and down.  So if someone is beam spamming you can normal jump the beam and tag them with crossbow.  Also if you activate King Arthur mode, the Crossbow bolt homes.  So you can just super jump and spam it all day and make people sad that try and keep away.

Mostly with Arthur if you are on the end of projectile spam, you need to weave you're way in and out of there stuff, and blow through around it with your own, and then start your own spam, which is in most cases, alot more effective.

Ryu:
Honestly, get one bar and fuckin laser them through whatever it is they are doing.  IMO, Ryu with bar is probably one of the most dangerous characters in the game.  Just react to any spam they do with Super hadoken.  Loads of neutral jump over theier stuff, and if you see them call an assist, or whiff a beam, or even do a projectile that has startup, fuckin laser them.

Haggar:
Lose.  Try and superjump over to them and pipe them, but in most cases you're fucked.  If you manage to get them in the corner it's not too bad cause of the range on pipe, and the half life, no meter combo you get from pipe.

Ammy:
Although I dont play the dog from what I have seen, if you manage to jump a beam etc and see it whif, then hammer them with the fullscreen super.  Be careful that you won't get hit out during the animation though.

She can also super jump dash forward and come down ambiguously with her Heavy attack.  Works really well.

And she also has her own projectiles she can spam in the ice stance.  She is really versatile so you just need to mix it up.

Um... Hope that helps some.

Why because you don't like playing against them?

I HATE playing Zero, but I'm not gonna bitch about and start screaming for nerfs.

I also agree that the Sent nerf is a kneejerk reaction. I would rather play against Sent than a good Zero, Ammy or even a really good Mags. Health wasn't his problem it's his damage output and if he is smokin' ya you just need to be more careful and block more/better.

Just for you Josh I might drop Storm and put Hulk in my team making it Hulk, Tron, Sent haha :-*.

Its part of the reason that made him dumb though because he could afford to make more mistakes than any other character and get the most reward. Keen to see these combos that 100% pre nerf sentinel. I can do it with my team but thats because of the dhc trick.

I actually like this nerf although its kinda weird having a massive robot with pixie life. Id like it if they nerfed his xfc as well and give him some utility. Make him cool to watch like he was in 2
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: Rorooze on March 23, 2011, 09:18:41 AM
I'm pretty scrub and I can't recall a time that I won because sentinel has beast health, if I ended up winning purely because of sentinel it is because his level 3 KFC makes him do 220% of base damage. They should have knocked that down to something like 150% and left the health as it was.

Sentinel is now the glass cannon of the game, maybe that's what they were going for?

Ya my 3 most hated characters. You would have the same team as electric if you did change your characters so...

I think the nerf was pretty severe but he keeps his clutch factor so it isn't all bad. They should have put his health in line with hulk and lower his x factor damage by 10% or something.

lol rory everyone in this game is a glass cannon if not then your character is just glass.

Pretty hefty nerf to sent drones assist as you can really kill him now with one bad assist call. On point he is effectively the same but you wont have to bust your balls(xfc, tons of super meter) to kill him.

Quote from: [SAS]karizzma on March 23, 2011, 09:22:30 AM

So from 4 hits to kill a character with xfactor activated to 5 hits? Hopefully they put in an option to remove xfc

haha yes! this makes me happy.. not that i had issues with sentinel, just that there might be a bit of variety online. after playing a bunch of sentinels today i cant help but see him as a cuddly panda bear and laugh.

Seriously tho i think he was over nerfed by a tad but essentially hes still the same character.  you still gotta respect him or get a frying pan/big leg to the face. only difference is sent player has less room for error on point and as an assist
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: massi4h on March 23, 2011, 11:58:55 AM
Nerf is good, not game changing though, but he's alot less random now (without l3 xf) as even super punishes will hurt alot more. I don't expect to see anyone doing fullscreen hsfs now (they shouldn't have been before either).

Anyway the main problem imo with sents l3 xf is the speed rather than the damage. Everyone does massive damage and has shit easy 100% combos under l3 xf, but what really makes sent shine is the fact that he can do his high/low/command grab/frame trappish/armored normals mixup alot better.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on March 23, 2011, 12:06:20 PM
Kind of a dumb nerf i reckon. But it does mean people have to be more careful with him now, which is a good thing.

The problem with sent is the random factor imo. I would've left his hp as is, but taken the armour off of c.M and made frypan a hard knockdown instead of a bounce. I would leave the armour on his S because realistically that thing is punishable pretty easily anyway. Maybe that's TOO big a nerf. I dunno. I honestly don't think he is THAT good a character. Hes just got big random burst damage.

Wow that's a pretty huge nerf lol.

I still think he is good, but we'll definitely see a shit ton less of him.

Poor poor robot.

EDIT: Just read on SRK that one of his combos doesn't work anymore 2.  Dude saying you can't get double relaunch combos anymore with him.

Not aimed directly at you Dave more everyone complaining about netcode. The problem is Capcom can't control the quality of the connections people are using. Half of the problem for NZ is our shitty broadband what can Capcom do about that. If we had South Koreas internet we would all be complaining a lot less about the netcode. Face it MvC3 has a lot going on for a fighting game, it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Capcom to get the netcode perfect.

Sent isn't bad now... I don't see why you need to drop him Weazzy he still does shitloads of damage. And with your team you can combo into the grapple with Dante and then Devil Trigger and DHC into HSF for the scaling reset which is basically a guaranteed 1000000 plus damage. But switch if you want. I'm gonna try play with a non Sentinel team for ranbats (unless I lose and I'll go back to my main team lol).

I'm still gonna keep Sentinel on my team, he fits in perfectly with them. It is...

Zero - Assist y - Colour 4
Dormammu - Assist a - Colour 3
Sentinel - Assist a - Colour 3

That team has really great synergy with a lot of capabilities for combo resets.

Magneto/Doom/Wolverine/Tron/Haggar

Haggar is pretty shit on point. Tron is a little better but she gets destroyed by HEAPS of stuff. Shes really good in certain matches, but not in general.

I think Doom is good. Most people think he sucks. That's only because they're too shit to learn how to use his reasonably awkward mobility. That and they mostly just use his assist and hope they can win with their other two characters.

Magneto and Wolverine are awesome. Magneto is fast and has huge damage, and wolverine is braindead easy and is probably the stickiest character in the game. Also has good damage. Both really good picks, and are probably both gonna be top tier characters imo.

Why you wanna bite my style Weazzy?  ;D j/k but yeah like Bill said Wolvie is braindead easy. I picked him up first just to get the feel of the game and then dropped him for the more awesome Mags. He's the most fun character to play with too imo. Although since you play online more, Mags' combos are nearly impossible to pull off online hahaha

A Haggar Lariat assist is one of the best assists imo, but don't listen to me because I'm a scrub  :D

Post by: [8-----D] Toots on March 25, 2011, 01:20:08 PM
I know wolverine is easy but calling wolverine braindead is kinda ignorant bill and it has alot to do with how wolverine effects your team

As good as he is on point he has no value as an assist something you cant say about a lot of characters. He is very assist dependent/meter hungry if your playing against good opponents. He basically has nothing safe with out the use of assists or meter...I guess you could say he has a lot of strong gimmicks. Most divekicks are not safe when blocked and berserk slash is -12 on block. Your whole team has to be built around wolverine if you want to make a top tier team imo. If you dont have the right covering assist to help wolverine get in(arthur daggers, sent drones, akuma tatsu) you have to burn meter on berserker charge which also stops meter gain until it runs out. If wolverine dies the second character will often come in with little to no meter.

Wolverine is a much easier character to get into than say, Mags. And the execution barrier to do anything he needs to do is really low. Maybe braindead wasn't the right word, but what you said (covering assists, burning meter for safety etc) also applies to just about every other character in the game to some extent. Expecially rushdown characters wits a similar gameplan to wolverine. So it doesn't really justify anything. With that being said, its still easier to be effective with wolverine than with the vast majority of the rest of the cast in terms of rushdown/pressure.

Hes not braindead like say, Sent. Braindead was probably a far too strong a word to use. But in terms of being a rushdown/pressure character, hes by far the simplest one to use effectively.

I think he is just simple to play is all.  Any character is brain-dead if that's how you play with them.

Dive-kicks aren't safe?  What's the down-low on that Ben?

I think Sent is just the same mostly.  Just have to be way more careful.  I play him very runaway now.  I also think that you have to have an assist that helps him control space now.  Whereas before you could zoom around the screen doing whatever you liked, now he has to cover his space well, with his approach and his zoning.  I just try to control as much space as I can, and use an assist to cover the gaps in my plan.  I find with this that I always have tons of meter to use by the time I land my hit, and use the strength of my teams DHC's to finish off point characters.  And then continue to zoom around and control space while building more meter.

If wolverines foot tags you high in your hitbox, you can jab him iirc. But if the foot hits you from the waist down, its safe.

Simple to play is what I should've said. Thats what i meant anyway.

The only hard thing about mags is that he has low priority normals. He can get in by himself from anywhere on the screen and can be threatening at fullscreen with em disruptor. Sure wolverines combos are piss easy but what does that matter. Are we talking about how easy a character is in terms of the first month of the game? If so then there really is no need for an argument because it doesn't matter. Besides rom which isnt even his best combo now magnetos combos arent too hard at all and he can do damage that is significantly higher than wolverines that builds more meter. Magneto can mix you up high low left and right safely with out the need of an assist. Wolverine has to use an assist to create any mixup besides unsafe berserker slash crossup and walk up throw. Also how many characters fall into the same role as wolverine? a character that is only effective on point and at close range? felcia thor and skrull I guess?

Sents not braindead anymore because jumping around doing random shit will get you killed more often than not same goes for mashing drones assist. I agree that he is the simplest (not by far unless your talking about day one wolverine vs day one mags) rushdown focused character but he has short comings that I dont think many other rush characters have that will soon have to be made up for by smart play instead of mash assist berserker slash lol next game.

Whaaaat? What's his best combo now? I'm here to learn  :D So far I've been using the j.H -> adf -> j,M -> j.H -> land loop, and still in the middle of mastering rom (sjub.H -> addf -> sj.H -> land loop) but can only get like 3-4 reps consistantly atm.

Comboing into Mags' Gravity Squeeze is almost ALWAYS guaranteed a kill. Tempest also gives a ton of damage and Magnetic Shockwave is only weak (for a Hyper) in the corner.

But like everone else said, 600k is A LOT of damage for a meterless/no assist mid-screen combo.

Btw is there a way to combo into Tempest mid screen? Or is comboing Hyper Grav xx Tempest in the corner the only way?

Wolverine is a simple character to learn with a reasonably low skillcap. Thats all I'm saying. I don't think this is an incorrect assessment of the character. I wasn't talking about what hes good at/bad at. He's an easy character to pick up and play. Thats it. Thats all I said. Youre making it sound like i said some shit like "WOLV IS EASY HE GIVS U FREE WINZ. PLAE MAGZ SCRUB". I didn't. And I don't think that either. This is a stupid argument.

I compared him to mags for the sole reason that mags has a higher skillcap, mostly due to his versatility. Theres more stuff to learn with Magneto than Wolverine.  Also not an assessment that I think is incorrect.

You call an assist that can juggle them in the middle of your combo midscreen. Then it gives you enough time to hyper grab -> tempest.

They was even easier and weaker then the ones i do :(

And yer it was with one metre. Dante gain like 1 and half metre anyway. And why you wanna save your metre for lol. I rather do some fucking dmg for 1 shitty metre. Is that why you want him with your Phoenix team lol!?!?!?!? Good strat.

And i didn't know that crossup thing was punishable from WOlv? Shit i seen heaps of vids of people abusing it and i thought it was OP as shit. Cool. And a blocked DK punishable!?!?!!? Ohhhh mint!!! Anybody's L punish that shit (talking about hitting above waist).

Hahaha nah I actually use Mags because he's really really really fun to play with; It's just a coincedence that he can dish out a lota damage without meter and gain a lot too which is a plus for Phoenix player like myself  ;D One combo plus two crossover assists with down+S = Dark Phoenix is ready  ;D

But just because I use Phoenix it doesn't mean I WON'T use meter. I've learned that I can always replenish that shit anyways.

The mags combo gains like 2 meters anyway. Which means if you land it at the start of the match, it ends in a gravity squeeze and a dead character.

And yea if youre running Phoenix hes not a bad option until he starts getting hit. Magneto/Doom/Phoenix would be a really strong aggressive phoenix team actually. If doom missiles tag you at full screen, mags has no trouble getting in and landing some good damage and building a shitload of meter. Even without doom this is a big selling point for mags on phoenix teams. When Doom pops out you have a bulky character (ie. not gonna die instantly if he eats a mixup on the way in...hopefully) who can also build a lot of meter if he lands a combo. AND, both doom and Mags can be effective at all ranges if there is need for it.

And yea, Phoenix teams can afford to use meter depending on time remaining and health of their other 2 characters. Clockwork has made that perfectly clear.

They build enough bar to get a level 3, and with the throw reset it basically kills any character in the game is my understanding from full life.

Yeah.  Also if you have are able to DHC trick it's worth while as you can build more bar doing the same combo ending with hyper grav X DHC trick or even GS.

He has other resets that don't involve throw setup as well.

Its the online that kills it. Thats it.

SSF4 doesnt have the best online in the world, but its definitely playable. THIS game has some of the worst online lag ive ever experienced. Can't even get good games with local guys. For casual gamers, online is the be all and end all of replayability, so a game like this isnt going to hook in any new casuals, because it has a major aspect that is lackluster. Most of us recognise that when the game is being played as it should be (offline), its awesome. Its definitely the most fun ive had in a fighting game since MVC2, but it sucks that I cant sit at home and train up with people, since its like playing underwater.

Amazing game. Crippled by bad online. I think this is a major reason why we need to become a more known and established community. So that games like this one that dont deserve to fail dont ACTUALLY end up falling off the radar.

Amazing game. Crippled by bad online. I think this is a major reason why we need to become a more known and established community. So that games like this one that dont deserve to fail dont ACTUALLY end up falling off the radar.

I agree that this is a big factor into the split that's happening in the community. But I also think there are a few other factors too.

1. The game is hard.
Ok so for people that understand the team and assist aspect of marvel this game is easy and way easier than marvel 2. But imagine you didn't pick up a fighting game after you put down your megadrive/snes controller in the 90's. Street Fighter IV comes out and there are ton of scrubs to play online day 1 that you can own by mashing DP and feel good. So you stick with it, you get semi decent, you win most of your online matches, you learn stuff online and beat most of your friends.

Then MvC3 is announced. You get hype because you heard MvC2 was awesome but personally found it too hard to get into. You hear MvC3 is going to be easier to get into just like SF4 was. You build up all these skills: 1 frame links, footsies, FADCs from SF4 and can't wait to transfer your skills into this new beast MvC3. Only to find that alot of the stuff in SF4 means nothing in this game.

2. MvC3 is different, fast and scary.
SF4 pretty much everything is right there on the screen. You vs the other person. You've seen the specials, you know the moves. Of course you can be surprised but most of the time you see yourself loose. In Marvel you can be dead and not even "see" it till you realize how awesomely dirty someone is playing. Stuff does massive damage and if you can't hold your ground or have some tricks to pin down your opponent you are screwed. People want to disorientate and confuse you. People want to give you alot to remember and think about. But there in lies the beauty of this game :) because of course you can learn to do all that too and that's what makes the game so damn creative <3 Training mode  :)

3: People aren't seeing Marvel for what it is, not SF4
It is such a different game and it's a fantastic one if you stick with it. I struggled with it at first because I had to shake the SF4 out of my system. SF4 had made my fingers fat and lazy. Had to play for a week just to get my fingers used to the pace of the game. Ok now I know some tricks with one character. Now I have to learn 2 more, their assists, are they good assists? and when do I use them without loosing 2 characters. It takes alot more effort than Youtubing a matchup you have trouble with or learning ways to land your Ultra. But having so much freedom and having to explore the games engine and your options is what makes MvC3 so awesome.

I was never any good at Marvel 2, I played it completely wrong. When I first started playing this game I struggled, I either lucked out and fought someone online waaaay worse than me by running away with Arthur or got destroyed by someone who was used to team dynamics, assist mixups and the core elements of Marvel. But love the game now. I'm not the best player by a long shot but each time I try something new and think outside the box and get rewarded by defeating a solid player it feels awesome.

Haha shot Unbeliever, that's the way to do it. Playing training mode lots gets boring though when you never get to play people. We really need more meetups. And from what I've heard we'll be going back to the good old grind sessions for a bit. So many of you guys got into mvc3 but weren't keen on tournaments yet, grind sessions is a good time for you guys to start playing and get tips from us tournament guys. I'm always keen to help you guys out with what you want. First thing that's important is really to understand the core game mechanics first. That's one big problem that people don't do imo.

j.H, down+M, H, H drill, down+M, forward+medium, jump cancel, j.M, j.M, j.H, land, H, launch,j.M, j.M, j.H, Up exchange, hyper grav xx Magnetic tempest DHC glitch into King Kobun, forward+M jump cancel, j.M, j.H, j.S, land QCF+L, H+Assist xx QCF+M, H xx Lunch Rush

1,050,000 damage only need one bar to start the combo.

Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread

It changes the height that the character enters the screen at.  For the combo I listed above, Magneto needs to be reasonably high in the air when he performs the DHC glitch in order to make Tron's super hit.

A lot of the time the up exchange can give better combo opportunities as the down exchange uses up your ground bounce and side exchange uses your wall bounce.

Oh yeah they will always ground bounce, even following one, but if you do one first then you can't get the ground bounce.

IE you can launch with dante, then go b,b,c, killer bee (ground bounces), relaunch b, b, c, down+s and still combo with the next character, but if you do say launch with wesker and go b,b,c, down+s into dante, then if dante follows up with killer bee they'll roll out when they hit the ground. You can can infinitely relaunch into down+s (easy with DHC glitch), but as soon as you do a down+s or side+s you can't do any normal ground/wallbounce. Hope that makes sense.

They all do the same damage iirc, up just pushes them up. But usually you can get better combos off up, rather than the other directions.

patch notes

• Fixed bug where a cross counter and X-factor activation would cause Ryu to float if using the B or Y assists.

• Fixed bug involving snapping out Zero during the activation of his Shadow Clone, which was disabling control.

• Fixed bug involving the hit time for Captain America's Shield Slash against Ryu, Amaterasu, and Hulk, which was allowing an unintended combo.

• Fixed bug for displaying more than 128 victories in a game lobby.

• Fixed bug involving Haggar blocking an attack in the air, immediately after using the Hoodlum Launcher.

• Fixed bug for displaying consecutive victories over 99 in Player Match.

• Fixed bug that allowed an infinite combo by Amaterasu against Taskmaster (Standing), Amaterasu (Standing or Ducking), Zero (Standing), and Shuma-Gorath (Ducking). Bug fix involved Amaterasu's Solar Flare attack (x5) and Power Slash combo.

• Fixed bug where Spencer's Bionic Maneuvers would cause Viewtiful Joe and Arthur to be stuck in the ground, when used as part of a combo with Haggar's Rapid Fire Fist.

• Fixed bug where Spencer's Bionic Maneuvers would cause the damage to display incorrectly, when used in a combo with Haggar's Steel Pipe and Rapid Fire Fist.

trijump M, cr.M,H,fly,L,M,H,d+H,unfly+H,djuf,M,H,d+H,cr.M,H,S,sj,M,M,H,djuf,M,H,S~smartbombs xx protoncannon

Gives 725,000ish. Its a modify combo I saw on youtube. But this one gives 20,000 extra.

Mags' cr.L, cr.M, cr.H, launch ROMx8, st.H xx Hyper Grav xx Tempest deals 717700. If you do something like a Tri-jump H/S cr.H launch into ROM that should deal even more damage than that IM combo. In other words, you don't need to drop Mags for IM Mason lol

EDIT: Obviously only in the corner lol

Been trying to learn a bit of mags whenever I get time to practice, kinda can do the ROM but some characters I just fail it on. Don't intend to play IM atm, somehow he doesn't appeal to me.

Currently got 3 teams I wanna play around with being Mag/Wesker/Akuma, Mag/Wesker/Sent and Storm/Wesker/Akuma. Oh yeah and I wanna try out my Mag/Wesker/Phoenix team for the lulz. Need more meetups!

Well if yous are talking about the IM combo I put up. YES! you can hit confirm with cr.L after the trijump M but you probably don't want to because:

a.) It makes the L after the fly, way stricter unless in corner
b.) The same combo with the added L only does 707K
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: massi4h on April 19, 2011, 01:12:45 AM

Iron mans blockstring is safe enough that you shouldn't need to bother hit confirming with a L anyway. Not SAFE safe, but safe enough.

And Hulk is rad. Who else have you got on that team?

I'm in between characters for my third atm. I've been using Doom a bit and he fits in with his beam assist. So if IM dies, Hulk comes in with Dooms beam to help him get in. And as an added bonus doom loop dhc to hulk comet is easy damage. Probably drop doom and pick up Storm. Dunno

Nah run doom. Beam is decent for that team. Try missiles out. You could get some decent lockdown/keepaway going with IM and some well timed missiles. Not only that, but missiles allow for the hulk double gamma crush, which is just about the best thing in the game. But beam is fine if you don't like missiles.

Also, if you run him last, he actually makes one of the best 'anchor' characters to come in and abuse lvl3 KFC. He gets retarded speed, and even more retarded damage.

Honestly, just trust Doom. He's a doctor.

Hulk/Doom work really well together in my experience - currently running Tron (Gustaff Fire) / Hulk (Gamma Wave) / Doom (Hidden Missiles)

The way I have my team structured, I can kill just about any character in the game with any two characters.

Tron/Hulk - the "cup of tea" combo - does 1.2 million damage for a net meter usage of just under 2 bars.
Hulk/Doom - double gamma crush does 900k-1 million for two meters, or a little more for 3 meters when you DHC into Sphere Flame.
Tron/Doom - can do a modified "cup of tea" which leads into DHC glitch into Doom "stompy foot" - does 1 million damage, uses two bars but builds that up by itself.
Doom/Hulk - Buktooth loop into Sphere Flame DHC Gamma Crush. Pretty straight forward.

The only thing this team lacks is an OTG assist you can use after hit confirming a throw with Hulk, which is a pretty big weakness if you're going to be running Hulk on point a lot IMO - you can mitigate this somewhat by calling missiles just before doing a command throw, but this can obviously be punished if your throw whiffs, and because it's so slow you don't get much mileage out of it after landing a standard throw/air throw, so you're forced to go for a mix up rather than the guaranteed damage off of a Wesker OTG assist etc.

I fucking love this game.

Well looks like I'm sold on Doom. Was wondering why you use use Gamma wave bro? I pretty much picked Hulk up only because I needed a a panic button assist (Hulks anti-air) to deal with Trijump pressure. I'm not a fan of hidden missiles, kinda slow and I hate how they fuck combos up so I've been using the beam assist.

Gamma Wave acts as a bootleg Sentinel drones if I want to try maintain spacing, or have something on the screen while I square jump with Tron - it helps get her in and also helps her average zoning game when I need to play that kind of game. It also OTG's, so you can use it to extend combos - it's a really versatile assist that isn't quite a beam and isn't quite a projectile - it's use is fairly limited if you try to play it as one or the other, but it comes into it's own when you take it for what it actually is and come to terms with it's limitations and attributes.

I used to pick AA Gamma Charge as well, but it's just not as versatile, and I have Tron Flame assist to take care of that role for me - without Gamma Wave, I don't really have any way to control space - I think the major reason why my team works as well as it does is because of the assists I use.

If I was in your situation, I'd definitely stick with AA charge - it's a really good "uppercut" assist - not quite as good as Tron Flame/Haggar Lariat because you can't combo off of it, but it has it's purposes.

This is my alt team. Its pretty baller.

Found someone who can actually utilize Hulks AA assist really well. Taskmaster! Use taskmasters arrows that fly straight up at the same time calling Hulk assist. You'll see the arrows bring character back down. There is a really strict dash cr.M you can link while they are falling Which I hope will lead into Taskmasters BnB. Might be better to do a dash L instead actually. Try in corner first because you won't need to dash.

Had a few kids come over today and had a long jam session against each other in MVC3. They quickly discovered Sent and they all kept picking him. Doom and Deadpool were the other popular picks where they'd just fill the screen with Plasma Beams and Trigger Happys hahaha

Watching kids getting salty over this game was awesome

I think I want a different team. Dog/Doom/Tron is really solid, and works well together, but doesnt have anything special.

Im thinking one of these: (A lot of these are similar, but with minor differences.)

Dog/Hulk/Doom - Pretty lol but pretty YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR at the same time.
Task/Hulk/Doom - Much the same as the above, but taskmaster is the man.
Pool/Hulk/Doom - Again, but Pool is the man, and red is cool.
Task/Doom/Tron - Awesome keepaway, good in close. Pretty tempted to play this one and try to be as lame as possible. Its similar to my current team, but I don't like playing keepaway dog.
Pool/Doom/Tron - Like the above team, but with a better colour scheme.
Pool/Dog/Tron - I guess I would be playing this around deadpool mostly. I get some DHC trick bullshit from pool -> dog, which is nice.
Pool/Dog/Doom - I kind of like this, but it lacks a certain girl in a robot suit for when the opponent manages to get in. Would need to experiment a bit with what doom assist works best with this team in general though.
Dog/Task/Doom - More DHC glitch crap with dog -> task. Would seem situational, but it's worth it since I tend to get a fuckload of dumb air throws with the dog that I only ever get weak damage off of by just firing out the super.
Dog/Task/Tron - Same but with tron. A bit less in the range department, but better on the defensive.

Much as I am NOT a defensive player by any means, I kind of feel like I want Tron there 90% of the time. I don't like this. I think its hindering me a bit TBH. 30% of my tron calls tend to save my ass, but the other 70% are pretty horrendous imo. Thats why I was looking at Hulk more seriously. Hulk + Doom helps hulk out a shitload, and thanks to his beastastic H, tron isn't AS useful with him as with other characters who lack a bit defensively. She's still fucking AWESOME with him (free gamma crush hitconfirms are win), but if I used hulk, I wouldn't feel like my team was lacking tron if she wasn't there.

As for my Pool/Task picks, Task has damage basically flowing freely from his anus, which he then uses to defecate a sea of pain all over his opponents as he laughs at damage scaling mechanics. This rules. So does his keepaway. Only reason i'm not using him already is that his colours are pretty fucking crap. Then theres deadpool. He strikes me as kind of a weaker taskmaster. They both have really strong games at a distance (deadpools might even be a little better), but deadpool lacks a bit of taskmasters damage, and a lot of his options. But the bolo loop is gangsta, much like the XF quick work loop. And finally, his colours match the red doom. Matching colours is some gamebreaking shit in this game. For reals.

What do you guys think? I'm gonna learn Task/Pool before SS anyway, and brush up on my Hulk and Tron, just so that I can go into it with all my options. I'm just rethinking my flagship team. Of all of those, which one do you guys think is generally the best one? (incl my current dog/doom/tron team)

I was playing around with Taskmaster this weekend. He is fucking sick. Taskmaster/Tron/Hulk is what I'm thinking of playing somewhat seriously at some point.

I say learn him, then see what he brings to your team - his BnB does fucking stupid damage and his arrows do more chip than any projectile should ever do. Nigga is good

So I'm having trouble with sentinel atm. After a st.S or cr.M, st.S what is the B&B you guys are using? It might just be me but I can't seem to even hit a sj.M, sj.M, sj.H, sj.S. Is there some timing to it?
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread

Don't hold up while launching them. Wait slightly after connecting the S then tap up to follow a a half second later. The M,M,H should work with that timing.

POOL IS GAY TASK IS COOL

WRONG!

I think Pool's projectiles control space shitloads better than Task's and I'm pretty sure the startup is faster. It's really easy to get in on Task w/o an assist to help you. I really think that for keep away purposes Pool is a much better char, and his damage isn't bad either. Pool BnB does around 755k

Mid screen dude. Cr.l, Cr.m, St.H, H.QuickWork, dash cr.m, st.h, M.Quickwork, dash, S, j.M, j.M, dj, j.M, j.H, j.S, KATANARAMA CHIMICHANGAZZZZ, S, j.S, super happy trigger time or w/e air guns is called.

Make sure you jump straight up after the second S to make it easier for your Happy Trigger to hit, if you're in the corner just delay the super till you're closer.

is it realistic to be able to hit confirm the first quick work without maybe an extra cr. l? coz if you get it wrong your most likely gonna eat a big punish. maybe my definition of a bread and butter is just wrong :P
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: [NIUE] BIRRY WONG on April 26, 2011, 04:03:56 PM
You have 3 hits to hit confirm it. That should be plenty. Plus an extra L would probably rape the damage/hitstun in the ass.
Title: Re: Marvel vs Capcom 3: XFC owns you! Post release thread
Post by: HoneyBadger on April 26, 2011, 04:40:20 PM
I can do it really really easily. The other problem with an extra L is sometimes it pushes them too far for it to work properly. I've only recently started trying to do the extra cr.m after the first qw. Another thing to note is if you do it in the corner (where you would usually do the bolo loop) you don't need to dash to get the cr.m after the first quick work. Also this combo works on sent without the dashes, so it's piss easy.

Quick question:

If you set the dummy in training mode to "all block" does the dummy even block unblockables? Just testing out overheads with the low Felicia assist and dummy keeps blocking it so I'm unsure as to whether or not I'm pulling this off correctly.

im not sure but the assist beam into untechable throw works on cpu with throw tech on so id assume the unblockables would work also

Was trying it with a low assist and morrigan jump S and never could hit it

It probably doesn't work on the cpu but most "unblockables" arent actually unblockable just extremely hard to block.
